In reply to: Use Forums without Groups?
<snip>so I can silence this discussion
that’s a bit dictatorial isn’t it, but it is your project
Not really, I just meant that when I show you the new buddypress.org forums people might actually finally get it.
I’ve said this so many times but here we go again:
How do I post to the “main” forum here? The answer is I can’t. I must first go to a sub-forum and then post to that forum. All the latest topics of each sub-forum are then shown on the front page.
Replace the word “sub-forum” with “group” in the above sentence and you are describing exactly how group forums work in BuddyPress. There is no need to join a group before posting to a group forum, the process is automatic.
The blocker in people’s mind is simply just the way the information is displayed. Once I get the new buddypress.org forums running then this will hopefully help people understand there is literally no difference outside of the interface.
Did you follow the upgrade instructions?

In reply to: OpenSocial supportAre there not open social widgets for WordPress you can use already?
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionGreat work guys, keep it up!
Old thread, closing.
In reply to: Any Way To Remove Activity Stream Replies?Yes, you need to create a child theme of bp-default and then copy the activity/entry.php template into your child theme. You can then remove the commenting code from the template.

Use the plugin author’s support thread please. Closing.
In reply to: Using bp_blogs_get_latest_posts() Returns An ErrorThe other option is to use the item_id and secondary_item_id inside the loop to fetch the actual post content. Of course the problem with that is it is very resource intensive. It’s probably not worth it.
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionThanks for the response foxly.
We cannot post multiple thumbs to the activity stream because BP’s activity stream format only supports a single image attachment
I’m not sure what you mean here. If you are calling bp_activity_thumbnail_content_images() then this might be causing it. If you don’t call this function on activity stream content then you are free to post however many images you like to the activity stream. If you have troubles with this let me know and I’ll see if I can fix.
Does it work with the default theme?
Yes please wait for the official version, otherwise you’re going to get conflicts.
I’ve just made some changes to the plugin that provides better BP support. Justin – the link to the code is on the blog post in the comments.
This fixes the username issue.
In reply to: How to style profile tabsAdd the CSS in your own theme, you should be able to override those styles.
This sounds like a potential bug. Please log it in trac.
@justin_k – for sure, it’s certainly a valuable thing to have. I would just be concerned if I had a local WP site running on my intranet at http://internal.coca-cola.dev/secret-new-product-name/ and that is now exposed unknowingly. The details don’t have to be on a public facing site. I think Google Earth asks you first if you want to send usage stats back?
Anyway, this is a great plugin, I’m liking it a lot and it’d be awesome if you could add some BP hooks too, I know there are literally thousands of BP users looking for this.
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionJust off the top of my head I personally think the most important things to have in this plugin would be (with no regard for what is already done):
– Upload one or multiple images in one go.
– Add meta data to an image – title, description, date, geo? – perhaps just read the exif data too.
– Allow the creation of albums, add/move/delete photos in albums and albums themselves.
– Allow commenting on photos or albums (use the activity stream commenting system so it ties back to the stream and visa-versa).
– Add single photo uploads to the activity stream. If a batch has been uploaded or a new album created, show a gallery of thumbnails on one activity stream entry.
Once all that is done then these features would be cool:
– Tag members in a photo – add a “tagged in” sub tab to the albums tab that lists all the photos the user has been tagged in.
– Allow photo attachments on activity stream posts – extend the activity stream posting interface.
Honestly though, before adding any bells and whistles, just make sure that uploading/editing/deleting a photo and album works perfectly. That’s the main thing.
In reply to: I would like to disable Email activationJust be aware that when you hack the core you will lose your changes on every upgrade. So make a backup if you must.
In reply to: Profile Comments with BP 1.2Someone just needs to write a good wire plugin and those who want “leave a comment directly on a profile” functionality can use this.
In reply to: I would like to disable Email activationIf you put the following code in a plugin then this will disable activation, although the users will still receive an activation email. In any case, they will be able to log straight in and the new account screen will tell them that.
If someone wants to add this to a plugin and release it please do, but I haven’t tested it, so do that first. In the next version I will add an option to disable activation emails too.
function disable_validation( $user_id ) {
global $wpdb;
$wpdb->query( $wpdb->prepare( "UPDATE $wpdb->users SET user_status = 0 WHERE ID = %d", $user_id ) );
}
add_action( 'bp_core_signup_user', 'disable_validation' );
function fix_signup_form_validation_text() {
return false;
}
add_filter( 'bp_registration_needs_activation', 'fix_signup_form_validation_text' );In reply to: Is WPMU preferred over WP for BP?There is no difference other than user blogs.
In reply to: I would like to disable Email activationYou don’t want to do that since then anyone can sign up with anyone else’s or an invalid email address.
In reply to: Use Forums without Groups?I can’t wait to get the new buddypress.org forums up on this site so I can silence this discussion. Please people — you need to understand that there is no difference here, it’s just how it is displayed. You do not need to join a group to post in a public group forum.
Dean gets it:
In reply to: Is WPMU preferred over WP for BP?If you don’t understand why you would need WPMU then 95% of the time you don’t need it. The only difference is with WPMU you can allow users to create their own blog.
@justin_k – I understand your motives, but it is more an ethical/privacy issue. You should perhaps at least let people know that you are harvesting server details. There may be private unlaunched sites that do not want the details of their setup exposed without their knowledge.
The best way to integrate this into BP is to put this code in a custom plugin or in bp-custom.php file. That way you don’t have to edit the theme at all. This code would also be great if it was added to the actual plugin
:function bp_add_fb_login_button() {
if ( !is_user_logged_in() ) {
if ( function_exists( 'jfb_output_facebook_btn' ) ) {
jfb_output_facebook_btn();
jfb_output_facebook_init();
jfb_output_facebook_callback();
}
}
}
add_action( 'bp_after_sidebar_login_form', 'bp_add_fb_login_button' );That way anyone activating this plugin when using BuddyPress won’t have to do anything else, the login button will just appear on the login sidebar form.
He should also add the FB connect button to the BP sidebar login form using the action “bp_sidebar_login_form”. And also add the buddypress tag to the plugin. If someone wants to let him know that..

Also, the plugin is phoning home with server details, I think that’s against the repo rules? Check function jfb_auth().
Edit: Not sure if it does break the rules (http://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2010/02/11/how-to-get-plugin-removed-from-dir/) but I still find it a bit off, even if it is harmless.
