In reply to: How to query for groups
Try adding the following item to your $args array:
`’type => ‘single-group’`In reply to: Minor @mention admin flaw.When the admin account is created for buddypress, the @mention is “@admin“.
I’m not sure what this means. BP doesn’t create any admin accounts. It uses the same accounts as your WP installation. As long as you have WP 3.0+, you should have had the opportunity to select your admin login name when you signed up.
Can you be more specific about where you are seeing @admin show up incorrectly? In the member header? Or in activity items? Or elsewhere?
In reply to: Help with Messaging and @mentionsNotifications for at-mentions will be in BP 1.3: https://trac.buddypress.org/changeset/3403
Your messaging problem sounds strange, like your installation somehow got corrupted, or like you have a plugin conflict. Are you running any other BP-related plugins? Try deactivating them and turning on the BuddyPress Default theme for the sake of testing; that will help determine whether the problem is with BP, or your BP configuration, or with third-party add-ons.
In reply to: Change error message displayI’m not exactly sure what you mean by “the error types and messages”. There is no place in BP where all error types and messages are defined. Instead, the content of error messages is typically defined in the function where the error might occur. The error is then sent to the user like this:
`bp_core_add_message( ‘This is where the error message goes’, ‘error’ );`
Messages added in this way, in turn, are rendered on the page after the redirect.In reply to: Blog posts on page template… how to?Whenever you want to have multiple loops on a page, you’ll have to define your own WP_Query. Here’s a good tutorial: http://weblogtoolscollection.com/archives/2008/04/13/define-your-own-wordpress-loop-using-wp_query/
It sounds like the key in your case will be ‘post_type=post’.
See this codex article https://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/query_posts for info on what arguments you can feed to WP_Query (they are the same as query_posts() )
Are you talking about the Home, About, Blog, Community, Extend, and Support tabs on buddypress.org? Those are WP Pages. In BP 1.3, there will be better support for having a setup like this that is totally customizable, but even now bp-default does something almost exactly like this.
The way that individual user navigation (profile, activity, groups, etc) is laid out on this site is just like it is in bp-default.
Or am I missing something?
It almost certainly means that the JS that replaces the form enctype isn’t working. See the last step in the readme installation for what should be a fix.
In reply to: Town Based Social NetworkCool idea. It sounds like BP is a good fit, with BP groups used as towns.
Some places to start:
– Change the word ‘group’ to ‘town’ throughout BP text and URLs: https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
– Setting up group forums: https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/buddypress-forum/ (see the bottom section)
– EventPress, a BP plugin for events: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/eventpress/Good luck!
In reply to: Friend Requests and Sending Messages Not WorkingTry switching to the BuddyPress Default theme for testing. Try sending some friend requests. If it works, then the theme is the problem, and you’ll have to get in touch with WPMUDev.
If it still doesn’t work, please provide some more info about your setup. Are you using any other plugins?
In IE are you seeing the fields where you attach the files? Can you describe the problem in more detail?
In reply to: Hide post update on Forums?mercime’s suggestion will work well if you want to keep people from commenting on certain kinds of activity items. If you want to turn off updates entirely, you may want to do it at the theme level. You’ll need a child theme (https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/). In that child theme, make sure you have a file groups/single/activity.php. You can get the content of that file from wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/groups/single/activity.php. Then, in the version of activity.php in your child theme, remove the following lines:
``
In reply to: Users can’t register through BuddyPress home pageYou can disable plugins and themes temporarily without losing work. WP and BP content is stored in the database and shouldn’t be affected by what themes and plugins you do or do not have activated.
It’s important that you test whether the problem arises with bp-default, the BuddyPress Default theme that comes with BP. If registration works with that theme but not with your custom theme, then we’ll know that your problem is theme-related. Most likely, your theme is missing the template files that BP expects to find when someone visits the registration page, and for some reason the fallback template (which should be wp-signup.php) is not being found either.
Please test with the default theme and report back.
Unfortunately I don’t think there is a super easy short term solution.
You’d have to create a new WP capability, and then on each page load, you’d have to essentially spoof the proper BP permissions. For groups and forums that means $bp->is_item_admin. In the case of activity deletion, there isn’t really a good piece of data to spoof (aside from the activity’s user_id field, which is obviously used for other stuff like displaying the activity avatar and so probably shouldn’t be messed with). So you might need to build your own delete links, and then make your own function that replicates bp_activity_action_delete_activity() except that it (a) hooks earlier to `wp` (maybe with a priority of 2 rather than 3) and (b) replaces the `/* Check access */` business with your alternative.
The core team is hoping to make this sort of thing easier in 1.3. Once BP has taken better account of proper user roles, I think it’d be an appropriate feature request that this sort of role be part of BP core, as it’s something that will be needed by pretty much any community site beyond a certain size.
@gunju2221 Don’t bump your posts more than once every 24 hours, please.
@gunju2221 When I’ve had this problem in the past, it’s been because either the forum corresponding to a group didn’t get created, or the forum_id for the group didn’t get saved in the groupmeta table at the time of group creation (or whenever you enabled forums in that group). It looks like you are using a couple of plugins that tap into group creation (Group Control, Documents, Reviews, Email Subscription, etc.). Try temporarily deactivating them, and then *creating a new group with forums enabled*, and then posting in that forum. If it works, then you’ll have to pick through those plugins to see which one is causing the problem.
In reply to: [BP1.2] External Group Blogs plugin@sastry Please please please do not post the same question in ten different threads. It is disruptive to those monitoring buddypress.org for new information, and it makes it more likely that any answers to your question will be fragmented across the site. When you have a question that has not been asked before, your best bet is to start a new thread rather than bombarding a bunch of old ones.
In reply to: Send-to autocompletion is brokenJust to clarify: All people experiencing this problem are using the default theme, and have the friends component disabled, right? By design, the autocomplete does not work with Friends turned off (a limitation which was recently fixed in the trunk), but it definitely shouldn’t be doing what some have described here.
In reply to: New Group creation fieldsGreat! Good luck.
In reply to: New Group creation fieldsHi David. It’s impossible to tell from what you give here exactly what’s going on. My guess is that something that you’re doing in functions.php is throwing an error that can’t be printed to the screen because of other stuff that BP core has already output. Try some var_dump statements in the passages leading up to line 141 to see if you can locate the issue.
In reply to: New Group creation fieldsI just took a peek at the BP source, and it looks like the group *has* been created by the point in question, but the information hasn’t been loaded into $bp->groups->current_group yet. Here’s a variant on the code that might work (or something like it):
`
function bbg_save_extra_group_details() {
global $bp;if ( $bp->groups->new_group_id )
$group_id = $bp->groups->new_group_id;
else
$group_id = $bp->groups->current_group->id;if ( ‘yes’ == groups_get_groupmeta( $group_id, ‘is_this_group_a’ ) ) {
// do some group A stuff
} else {
// do some group B stuff
}
}
`In reply to: bp_get_member_user_id() in header`bp_get_member_user_id()` only works inside of a member loop. To get the id of the logged in user, try `bp_loggedin_user_id()`, id
“Are you using a custom theme? It sounds like the theme wasn’t updated to account for the new BP_Button class.
In reply to: RSS feed of forum topics?I built this https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-lotsa-feeds/ but it doesn’t provide exactly the feed you’re looking for. I’ll file it as an enhancement ticket and maybe get around to it one of these days.
Once you have activated a BuddyPress-compatible theme, such as the packaged bp-default, you will see a Groups tab at the top of the main page. Click on it. You should then see a Create A Group button at the top of the Groups directory.
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/
Activate forums in a given group at that group’s Admin > Group Settings.
AND THERE’S NO NEED TO SHOUT!!!!!
