In reply to: I want buddypress to prove it
I failed to mention BuddyPress is dependent on WordPress. You can’t use BuddyPress without having an installation of WordPress. BuddyPress is a social networking/niche community plugin for WordPress. 🙂
In reply to: I want buddypress to prove it@asnakea3
Wow, that is pretty harsh! BuddyPress is no scam, it is free software built by an amazing development team and they also give free support. If your upset because you cant figure out something then ask the community. The community is made of volunteers that are not compensated so please keep that in mind. You can’t come on here and demand support and expect a volunteer to answer you immediately because they do this on their free time and have lives and responsibilities of their own that take precedence over the forums. Give your thread 24 hours then if no one reply’s you can politely bump it. I have made many buddypress sites and I am not affiliated in any way with the Dev team or moderation team and I can assure you it is the real deal. I do volunteer and help here when I can as a way of paying the help I have received forward. 🙂In reply to: How can I get the activity like facebooks?@ljmac
All I did was change lines 27 and 51 in the plugins activity-privacy-component.php Rich’s code used is_site_admin() I changed it to is_super_admin() to reflect depreciated code, and I changed line 40 to return true instead of false. I think most of Rich’s code is still intact other than that. I also just added the loader.php and a check for BuddyPress. As you can see there was no major changes I made, and it was all in an effort just to get the needed functionality for my purposes of usage at that time. I hope this helps, and if you do something cool with it then that would be even better and remember sharing is caring! 🙂In reply to: How can I get the activity like facebooks?Have you actually tried the plugin in the link I supplied because there is variations all over the net. On my tests it only shows yours and friends activity until you reach the end of all activities. The admin see’s sitewide activity but subscribers only see there friends activities. Either way, feel free to take over development for it and see if you can add anything to it to keep it relevant. I really just don’t want to mess around with it anymore at this juncture. Some plugins may even conflict with it so the only way to truly test it is with WP, BP, and this plugin activated.
In reply to: How can I get the activity like facebooks?@ljmac
You can try this:
https://github.com/bphelp/activity-privacy-component
It gives you an activity stream that includes yours and your friends activities only. It was only tested up to WP 3.5.1 and BP 1.7.1 and I decided not to add any further development since @megainfo ‘s BuddyPress Activity Privacy plugin release, because for my purposes it made it obsolete but it may fit your requirement so use it at your own risk. As far as followers go, I thought there was another plugin that handled that already. Feel free to use and modify the plugin anyway you choose and if you add code that may make it useful for others then feel free to share it on the forum as I am sure others may want the same functionality and they would appreciate it. 🙂In reply to: Anti-spam techniques…@aitpro
Yeah spam is no good and can get out of control real quick. JFYI on my test server when I pull up the source I can see where the plugin creates the hidden field but like I said I honestly don’t know how effective this method would really be at preventing spam registrations. I just through it together as a plugin merely out of boredom. 🙂In reply to: Anti-spam techniques…@aitpro
Are you using the plugin on github?
https://github.com/bphelp/bp-spam-killer
Or Are you using the code on pastebin which I could not get valid users registered either.
http://pastebin.com/kzxCqSb8
On my test server the github plugin allows registration for valid users but I am not really sure how effective this method would be at preventing spam registrations. Any feedback is appreciated! In reply to: Where can I translate “Log out” on sidebar@davep1
What theme are you using? Have you considered that the Log Out button may be a image? If that is the case then translation would not effect the image but of course this is pure speculation. In reply to: How can I get the activity like facebooks?@ljmac
What exactly do you mean by “Facebook-style wall?” Do you mean showing only yours and your friends activity in the activity stream? In reply to: BuddyPress and Register Plus Redux@jcollier
You could try @r-a-y ‘s solution for disabling BP registration and using WP’s instead.

Per your request I removed your credit for the plugin. In reply to: Anti-spam techniques…@mattt55
Well I gave you credit because you was my source, if you ever come across the original author then I will credit them. As for the jQuery method see:
http://pastebin.com/kzxCqSb8
I added a _inc file to the plugin that contained the my.js file. See line 33 as to how I implemented it. Really not sure what I did wrong so have a look and see if you notice any errors. In reply to: Anti-spam techniques…@mattt55
Hi, I used your 3rd method registration honeypot to create a small plugin. I don’t really know how to test its effectiveness but here is a link for anyone that is adventurous and would like to give feedback to that effect:
https://github.com/bphelp/bp-spam-killer
Credit goes to @mattt55 for the code and idea.
I could not get the 4th method using jQuery to work. It always sends every user to the spam-prevention page. If you can give more detail as to how to get this working I would like to use both methods in one plugin for better spam registration prevention. Thanks! In reply to: Log-in connect with Facebook and twitter@axlopez19
Do a search as there are many options available! In reply to: Anti-spam techniques…@mattt55
Good info, thank you for sharing!@applegateian
I tested it and it works as it should so maybe you need to give more info about your setup because something else is interfering with this function. It could be a plugin as well. Also, have you followed the procedures here in regards to theme compatibility:

This thread was out prior to the plugins release but now I actually find BuddyPress Activity Privacy plugin by @megainfo a more flexible option because it give users a choice as to who see’s their activity. Check it out:

Check the single quotes around bp_member_header_actions. They need to be changed to regular single quotes. If you copied and pasted the code above it would not be right. You can try this in between opening and closing php tags:// Removing public message option function remove_public_message_button() { remove_filter( 'bp_member_header_actions','bp_send_public_message_button', 20); } add_action( 'bp_member_header_actions', 'remove_public_message_button' );In reply to: How to create a buddypress plugin@vijayalogiclab
I would give it some time especially if you are new but if you want to jump in to the deep end then study the codex:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/plugin-development/
Also See:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/plugin-development/creating-a-plugin/
If you don’t understand PHP and WordPress hooks then go through template files and look for do_action. Those are places you can hook into. First you need a file header for WP and BP to recognize it as a plugin, see the second link above. You then need to create a function. You will then add_action to where you need the plugin to execute in BP based on do_action which is the hook, and then you call your function. Here is a brief example:<?php /* Plugin Name: My Plugin Plugin URI: http://URI_Of_Page_Describing_Plugin_and_Updates Description: A brief description of the Plugin. Tags: buddypress Version: The Plugin's Version Number, e.g.: 1.0 Author: Name Of The Plugin Author Author URI: http://URI_Of_The_Plugin_Author License: A "Slug" license name e.g. GPL2 */ function my_plugin() { //Your Code Goes Here } add_action('bp_head', 'my_plugin'); ?>If this makes no sense what-so-ever then you need to spend more time on the codex and learning PHP because I doubt anyone has the time to give you a complete lesson and it will benefit you more by learning to crawl a bit before you walk.

This blocks BP pages from logged out visitors. See the readme.txt in the plugin for forums.

You need to supply more info in regards to your setup. Is this picture above from a localhost, or on a live server? In reply to: Change login landingpage@marialka
You could try adding something like this to bp-custom.php :function bphelp_logged_in_visitor_redirect() { global $bp; if(is_user_logged_in()) { wp_redirect( get_option('siteurl') . '/activity' ); } } add_filter('get_header','bphelp_logged_in_visitor_redirect',1);Just change the line:
wp_redirect( get_option('siteurl') . '/activity' );To:
`
wp_redirect( get_option(‘siteurl’) . ‘/members’ );
‘
OR whatever page you want them directed too upon login. In reply to: checkbox xprofile field – default “checked”@hnla
Well said Hugo! It also seems to me that if it was checked by default it would make it even easier for spam bots to compromise a site.In reply to: SEO for BuddyPress@henrywright-1
I don’t know of any that is fully compatible but you can try this:
