    The css reserves a spot for the admin bar.

    remove_action( ‘wp_head’, ‘bp_core_admin_bar_css’, 1 );

    Wherever you put the other statements.

    Let me make sure we are looking at the same code. You are on RC1?

    Rev 870 is: “Fixing incorrect use of “You” when viewing a person’s empty activity stream.”

    That may or may not be what you are talking about in one issue mentioned above. Can you post these things in trac please?

    https://trac.buddypress.org/

    There has been a fix come thru svn for the custom permalink problem: https://trac.buddypress.org/search?q=1188

    I think that your homepage display, whatever that is, is the abnormal one Adam. The admin bar is supposed to fit across the entire width of the display. That’s the normal behavior. You can modify this by creating a file in your home theme folder called site-wide.css

    That needs to live in a directory called /themes/<your theme directory>/css

    Within that file you can put any css you’d like to control the appearance of all bp components.

    I read something that went something like this:

    Programmers don’t work on new software or new features until all the reported bugs get fixed in the old stuff.

    Good incentive to fix things and just a good model for good development practices. I did speak to Andy about the hunting caps. He’s all for it.

    Took a look and it seems that you have solved this problem. Congrats! Turning off the lights in the room here.

    I think this issue was resolved recently. I remember seeing something about that in trac and seeing it come through SVN.

    Try the latest svn trunk version of bp: https://svn.buddypress.org/trunk

    Anything is possible if you can program in php. See the new skeleton theme download at: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/create-a-buddypress-member-theme/

    That’s if you are talking about the member theme. The home theme is just a normal wp theme and there are tons of docs and sites dedicated to helping you with that. Google is your friend. :)

    No the full name is displayed by default throughout bp Lucifix. You’ll have to create your own theme to override that behavior.

    bp shows an excerpt of the post and the excerpt is stripped of most things. It’s an excerpt. An excerpt is not the post itself. See the link Peter has there for a solution.

    It’s a security hole and it’s closed by default. If you choose to open it you can modify the filters that bp uses. Example is the forums filter system:

    bp_forums_add_allowed_tags() in ../bp-forums/bp-forums-filters.php is the filter you can extend.

    function my_allowed_tags($allowedtags){

    $allowedtags = array();

    return $allowedtags;

    }

    add_filter( ‘edit_allowedtags’, ‘my_allowed_tags’ );

    Create a file called bp-custom.php and put it in the /mu-plugins directory with the rest of the main bp files. Put that function in there. It’ll get loaded by bp.

    Other components have a /bp-<component>/bp-<component>-filters.php file also.

    What version bp are you running?

    The directories require two files in your theme folder plugin-template.php and plugin-sidebar.php

    It doesn’t look like the sidebar is being generated at all. In firebug the div for it doesn’t exist. You’ve also got two ‘content’ divs that wrap the two directory widgets. Somehow you’ve got an extra one in there.

    The sidebar is generated by the fn bp_blogs_directory_blogs_content() calling do_action() and triggering the sidebar function bp_blogs_directory_blogs_sidebar(). It doesn’t seem to be happening.

    PART 2: ‘it is closed instantly’ What does that mean? I’m hazy as to exactly what is happening.

    You create a group with a forum. The forum gets created because you can visit the bbpress side and see the new forum. You create a new topic in bp and what happens? Does the topic show up in bbpress?

    Can you create a topic in bbpress within that forum and have it show up in bp? What happens when you create topics and replies in a group forum on the bbpress side? They should show up in bp.

    Are you using deep integration?

    This is bbpress 0.9x here.

    I’ve been thinking about this also. I was planning on creating a group/personal blog component for bp. Andy convinced me that something like the project he talked me into would be more beneficial. I have plans to allow bpContents http://code.ourcommoninterest.org/2009/03/05/bpcontents-tags-everywhere-for-everything/ to have content types that are external to a bp/wpmu install.

    bbPress topics are external to the install. bp group forums use xmlrpc to communicate with bbPress. It’s an external resource for bp. My plans are to create some standard content types that exist within the bp site such as blog posts, wp pages and the wp links table.

    I always thought it was important to be able to relate external resources and treat them as if they were ‘just another resouce’. When I found out that the bp-bbpress communications mechanism was xmlrpc and exactly what that implied I jumped at learning and developing for that comm method.

    Practically all blogs, no matter what type they are, have an xmlrpc interface. Gonna make it another content type in bpContents. It’ll provide the ability to get the external posts into bp, inside tags.

    Thanks oldskoo1, you seem to be fortunate in this bug hunting expedition you’re on recently. Good thing we don’t have ‘bag limits’ here. I think I’ll suggest to Andy that bp start passing out day-glo hunting caps with the bp logo on them.

    Mark, trentadams is a moderator here and has the scoop on the multi-db solution. Look for his posts. Or he hangs out on irc.freenode.net #buddypress with the rest of us.

    Hey John, irc.freenode.net #buddypress

    When you do, please pick a handle shorter than your username. May I suggest ‘jjj’? :)

    I didn’t know that. Surprised me. Now watch, it won’t be the solution.

    Since John exhausted all other possibilities. I dove into the source code.

    Do you have the file plugin-template.php in your directory /wp-content/member-themes/buddypress-member ?

    It loads that as the template for the settings screen. If it’s missing (I renamed mine as a test) it give that error.

    Yes, anything that is a component usually has content associated with it. That’s the purpose of bpContents. Associating any type of bp content with tags. Tags can then be place in these virtual containers called ‘containers’ that can be associated with any component.

    So you can have any component’s content associated with any component. The content type ‘url’ covers content found outside of bp or the site.

    Hmm. A new kind of content type. Not ‘blog post’ or ‘url’ but ‘member’? hmmm…

    What a good idea Andy. Floating these feature trial balloons again? Well you don’t fool me for a minute Andy. :)

    Not so private joke people. Never mind. Hello donnacha.

    This is a good idea. I like that alot. Fans could have some twitter ‘following’ type of aspect to it. Kinda like an activity stream for the people I’m fans of. What would be the term you would apply to those people I’m fans of? Seriously. I don’t know what to call them.

    Hey John! See you got an upgrade. Thank God the cavalry is arriving :) Welcome to being part of the solution. Course you have been since you got here.

    Sometimes I find that error to be an older version of jquery being used by another plugin.

    oldskoo1! Howdy partner.

    Ok. in bp we have the ability to search blogs, groups and members.

    /mu-plugins/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-classes.php search_blogs()

    /mu-plugins/bp-groups/bp-groups-classes.php search_groups()

    /mu-plugins/bp-friends/bp-friends-classes.php search_users()

    In all cases you’ll probably have to uppercase or lowercase the search term $filter and the field(s) in the sql statement itself.

    strtolower($filter) then something like:

    WHERE LOWER(value) LIKE $filter

    I don’t think I’ve ever used the bp search stuff. Thanks for finding this. :) I created a ticket on this: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/570

    Search should be case insensitive.

    You don’t have to shout kennibc. You’ll have to rewrite most of this file /mu-plugins/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-classes.php. All the sql queries that have something like ‘WHERE public = 1’ are your target.
