@travel-junkie It’s a myth yeah, but it’s not a myth that at each page load, the page is recontructed with all the plugins, filters, filters of filters, and all the rest. The amount count or better said the server settings of many details such as php memory, max_exec etc
You’re right, good coding practice is the primar condition, but who knows that when installing a plugin ? A quality plugin coded under the 4.x area isn’t really quality satisfying today. Awfull plugins writen with the feet, but doing the job (even if penibly) are(where) legion.
Most of the plugin’s user are not php guru’s to see what changed, what is good or not in the code.
Even pro developper’s are not all qualified to be quality dev’s. Go, go, go, allways faster und hektische arbeit zum schluss. You’ll probably know that.
And what is “quality” in the wpsphere ? 5 minutes install, download a theme, a plugin by one click and bum, done ? In the best case, user will shout “it work’s !”

It’s not quality, it’s just an easy craftwork.
Aber sonst alles klar. Tchuss
EDIT: a funny conclusion to this just posted here few minutes ago in this tread:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/bp-better-directories-abandoned/
that mentionned this (very explicit in my mind)
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-bp-better-directories-ready-or-notUse CSS to do this. Add to style.css file from your child theme.
For groups avatars:
`div.item-avatar img {width: xx px;}`For users, it depends of the place you need that. You have to search in the source code.
For ex, the avatar near a topic answers, use
`div.poster-meta img {height: xx px;}`In reply to: Can I turn off the “what’s new” in the profile?Read again @frank13 ‘s answer.

You have to make a copy of post-form.php file and put it into your church theme
From within this copy in this copy you comment the line 25, like this
`// printf( __( “What’s new, %s?”, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_user_firstname() );`Done !
I you ask again i will answering in french
In reply to: after 1.6.1 No Members, No pages, Help!!!Verify your permalinks settings
Recreate all your page in bp settings and assign them and don’t forget to save the changesDe nada !
Maybe also something here: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/image-beside-username-by-user-role/In reply to: How to disable users to post what’s new in profile?Sorry i don’t know at this time. It’s an old client and i have no more contact with the techies.
But one thing is sure, WP architecture is so that the more you get plugins, the more your site slow down.
Short said, everithing works (more or less), except the time factor. How to solve this has yet to be invented.
Maybe read here, for solution or inspiration

In reply to: [Resolved] Editing New WordPress ToolbarIn reply to: empty profile for logged in userUpload the whole bp-default theme manually via FTP.
If it’s OK with the default thme, do the same with the original files of your custom theme.Control also that you have a page for each bp page.
After updating to 1.6.1, my pages where all lost and i have to recreate them…the loop is in the file called profile-loop.php
buddypress/themes/bp-default/members/single/profile/To work on it you have to create a child theme first or you will loose your modification at the next update.
You can download the modified file from here: http://bp-fr.net/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/group-documents/24/1345718022-profile-loop.zipIn reply to: Change redirect link on Toolbarhello,

have you searched for a js conflict ?In reply to: Can not add a new topic to group forumIf you changed you server, you probably changed your wp-config file.
If you publish in groups you have activated group forums. Even if you don’t use bbPress as plugin, BP use his built-in bbPress and create a bbconfig.php file.
You have to look if this file exist and search for your old server settings to transform them to your new server reference. To answer 3) “If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory? = unsure”
Wordpress should be at the root of your site (recommended install)
Something like server_path/htdocs/<— this is the root folder (this folder belongs your host)
And here all wp folders ad files (but not in a folder called wordpress)
If you use htdocs/wordpress/wp folders and files, it’s a subdirectoryhi,
as you can read here https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/version-1-6/ in the Profile Field section, since BP 1.6, each user can set his profile fields to different visibility option from within his profile option admin.
You can also modify the template profile loop from a child theme to avoid site wide not registered users to see profiles unless they are logged in, by adding the contionnal tag if bp_user_is_logged_in.
Add this just after the first line containing do_action and don’t forgot endif at the end of the page, just before the last do_action.hum.. the best way is to do nothing !
Yoast is certainly a well knowed WP plugin, but the best way IMO to be actually referenced in search engines is to publish regulary, pertinently with eventually a good cross referencing from other sites. This means reputation either then referencing directly. Good coding practice if you do this kind of work is also a good approach.
So far i know, no artifical URL coding trick through SEO plugins is satisfying at this time. Because it’s difficult to have a site according to several different search engines with complex and very different algorythms and methods for each. Anyway, it’s a long term work.
All the rest about SEO is litterature and marketing stuff.
WP let’s you chosse between URL with numbers or letters. Prefer text.Keep also in mind that if your site is dedicated to something more or less unique and well documented, regulary updated, etc, it would at least have better chances to be found as a fashion site or a geek lair

Server capacity and bandwith has nothing to do with php memory.
More plugins you use, more memory you need. For example, if you are on a shared host with only 8 or 32 MO of php memory limit, BP could’nt work and WP will work only with a few (3-4) plugins installed. And BP is a BIG plugin.
Latest WP/BP need 128 MO to work correclty togoether (64 MO is the minimum)http://www.4webhelp.net/scripts/php/phpinfo.php
In reply to: Videos Not EmbeddingNotices fields are texturized. This means that html insertion is difficult and in fact not possible/not recommended. But you can post video links in forum topics or blog posts.
If you wanr to use many video links, give a try to BP-Links witch is better tailored for community usage as “want to say something, x ?”, intended for global messaging, not for content publication.https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-links/forum/topic/buddypress-1-6-support-and-the-future/
https://codex.wordpress.org/User:Here/Texturize@shanebp, you’re right: it’s a html issue. This was what i first thinking too, but i searched around for some other solution and found JJJ’s answer. (see link in previous post)
Why using a supplementary JS script when the possibility is given to use a unique ID field buited in BP’s xprofile routine ?
No you’re at the right place

Answer from @JJJ here (since BP 1.3):
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/custom-profile-field-limit-to-5-numbers/And BP 1.6 introduces ‘multi_format’ parameter to xprofile_get_field_data(), so that themers can return comma-separated values as an option (source: BP codex)
But no idea at this time (no doc for this in codex) on how to use this in your case. Sorry.
Try to ask @modemlooper ?
