In reply to: how to make users be approved
You might check out this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/moderate-signup-restrict-registration/ There’s a few options described in it.
In reply to: mY WEBSITE DISAPPEAREDYou can also likely to get into it through your hosts control panel (something like cpanel) and then go to a file manager where you can rename the buddypress folder. I forgot…rename is good too.
In reply to: mY WEBSITE DISAPPEAREDGo in and delete the BuddyPress folder in /wp-content/plugins. You might want to back it up before you delete it if you need something in it.
In reply to: Recommended Hosting for BuddyPress site?Ok, I created the Hosting Group: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-hosting/ It could use everyone’s feedback on the hosts they use and how it’s working for their setup.
Lots of previous threads for this. Even a recent one with a Trac ticket to make it so it doesn’t require lowercase:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/register-username-with-uppercase/
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/allowing-users-to-type-in-uppercase-letters-for-the-username/
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/installing-buddypress/forum/topic/username-starts-from-uppercase-letter/I’m not sure if the lowercase does matter in other sections. You might add the question to the Trac ticket and see if the core developers can answer. This is something I’d like to fix too. The other solution I’ve considered is to have some javascript function that will check the username to make sure 1. it’s available and 2. that it’s lowercase and 3. Any other validation. At least a notification before they click submit would be sufficient.
In reply to: Import Export Buddypress User DataTry it on a test database, but if you upgrade to WP3.0. Then, you can just convert from single WP to multisite WP. I could be wrong, but I think that this should transfer all your data and preserve your old path (which is good for SEO, etc).
Like I said test it, but I’m interested to know if this works or not too. It will help me decide with this new BP install I’m doing if I should go with WPMU from the start or just WP.
Of course, this also would require you to move to WP 3.0 (which is currently in RC1).
In reply to: Moderate Signup / Restrict RegistrationNice find Zachary. I wouldn’t recommend changing that file since it will get overwritten when you upgrade BP. Instead just use the bp_core_activation_signup_user_notification_to filter to change it to your email.
In reply to: Having lots of issues, willing to pay@r-a-y What does that actually do? I’ve been wanting to test it. Will it allow spaces and upper case letters?
In reply to: How to create a custom home page + login formYou’ll have to hook the bp_core_redirect to one of the initial load actions. That way you check to see if the user is logged in before the headers load and then you get the redirect error.
In reply to: Account creation from a specific email idIf you use WPMU it has the option to exclude by domain. That should do the trick.
In reply to: How to create a custom home page + login formA couple ways to do this I think. One is to just redirect people that aren’t logged in to your login page. That way if they hit the home page, they’ll just get sent to the login page if they’re not logged in. There’s a few recent threads with ways to do it and some plugins I think also. Then, you’ll want to exclude the login page from the Nav too in your theme.
It seems like you could also do this with a child theme where you just check is_user_logged_in() and based on that display the activity or login. I haven’t looked into this much, but it seems reasonable. There’s probably an activity template you could include using locate_template()
In reply to: disabling nav items in groupsYou can use something like this:
bp_core_remove_subnav_item( $bp->groups->slug, ‘send-invites’ );Can’t you change it using this: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
In reply to: Moderate Signup / Restrict RegistrationYep, I just tried the Welcome Pack and you can remove the link and change the email that way and it sends to the user.
So, then you can just manually pull the activation key from the database using PhpMyAdmin or something and append it to a url like this: http://yourdomain.com/activate?key=KEY-FROM-DATABASE
In reply to: Moderate Signup / Restrict RegistrationSince you’re using WPMU, BP just basically calls the WPMU user creation (see lines 320-321 in bp-core-signup.php). So, you’re going to have to mod the WPMU signup functionality to get the emails to send right.
Another temp option is to try the Welcome Pack plugin which allows you to modify the activation email that users get (I haven’t tried to take the link out, but it seems possible). That would solve the email they get.
Then, you could build a plugin to activate the users. Until then, you can just copy the activation key out of the database using phpmyadmin and browse to the URL yourself. Far from ideal, but the Flintstone way if you’re in a time crunch and need to get by until you can get a plugin.
In reply to: Disable Activation EmailAndy’s solution was for WP, but it didn’t work for WPMU. For WP, there’s this plugin: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-disable-activation/ We’ve been working on an MU solution in this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/i-would-like-to-disable-email-activation/?topic_page=1&num=15) However, haven’t quite gotten it to work right.
In reply to: How do I uninstall Buddypress on standard WP blogRestore your theme from your backups.
In reply to: Join all public groups at once@mrjarbenne That’s right. You can also turn on an option in Welcome Pack to force the issue too. Just click the help button at the top of the Welcome Pack plugin for details.
In reply to: Killing the @mention functionWhy not just leave it on the notification page? So far, you haven’t removed the functionality. You’ve just removed the navigation to see some of that functionality. So, if someone does the @username they’re going to get a notification unless you disable that also. Plus, not many people are going to look at the notifications page anyway;-)
To your question, I think you would have to remove the action and write another function that doesn’t display the mentions settings. You’d just need to test what happens when save is clicked and that setting isn’t passed. Maybe you pass it as a hidden variable or something.
In reply to: Join all public groups at onceOr…it looks like this plugin might fit your need: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-auto-group-join/
In reply to: Join all public groups at onceYou’ll have to know some coding to do this. This will get you started if you know some code.
You can add the hook to the following:
add_action( ‘bp_core_signup_user’, ‘join_all_public_groups’, 10, 3 ); //For WP
add_action( ‘bp_core_activated_user’, ‘join_all_public_groups’, 10, 3 );//For WPMUThen, in the “join_all_public_groups” function, you can use this call to have them join groups: groups_join_group( $group_id, $user_id ); You’ll just need to loop through the list of groups.
Did you try: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-fb-autoconnect/ ?
In reply to: Disabling email activationsThis thread has the closest solution I’ve found: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/i-would-like-to-disable-email-activation/?topic_page=1&num=15 Still has a couple issues to workaround though.
In reply to: any idea why my sql isnt working? No worries. We’ve all done that. PHPMyAdmin gives better error messages sometimes;-)
In reply to: any idea why my sql isnt working?Try copy and pasting it into PHPMyAdmin and see what error it throws. If it doesn’t throw an error, then the SQL is good and something else is wrong with the way the SQL’s being run.
