In reply to: Friends and Groups for BuddyPress 1.3
when this is helpful to you in order to solve some issue as you described in the related TRAC, then this is fine. Also it will give additional options for the user, as he will have better Admin-rights to manage his Friends and have his own Forum (you really want to have each user having his own forum – probably a great idea….).
However, it should be a clear differentiation between “generic Groups” and “Friends”.
Lets say I am running a Dating-network on which I do have generic Groups like “Dining”, “Travelling”, “Hobbies”, etc. , then it would not be nice if Friends-Groups would get mixed-up with generic-Groups.
In reply to: Is BuddyPress confusing to users?@Travel-Junkie
totally agree with you.
An “Admin-Theme” which mirrors the current testbp.org default-theme would be great.
BTW: thanks a lot for your great and professional support to get my website up and running !
In reply to: Is BuddyPress confusing to users?when you create a Blog as a user, then you are being send into the WPMU-Dashboard-interface.
At least at my installation…….is it different at yours ?
In reply to: Is BuddyPress confusing to users?– BuddyPress is great !
– Creating Blogs with WPMU is great !
– the WP-platform is great !
Just giving the “WPMU-Dashboard” the SAME design and user-interface as we have at the current BuddyPress-default-theme, in order to make the full website look coherent.
That is the ONLY missing piece in the puzzle, at least for me.
In reply to: Is BuddyPress confusing to users?“Remember, wordpress.tv has a TON of tutorial videos for beginners as well.”
…. not sure my german-language-speaking users at the age of 50 and over, are going to watch a video in order to understand how my website works

Once you need a video to EXPLAIN how a website works, something is wrong.
I just think that the “WPMU-Dashboard-backend” is not a place I want my users to go into, so I had to dis-able the feature for users to be able to create their own blog. So my website is more like a Discussion-Forum with Groups

I guess giving the “WPMU-DashBoard-backend” the same DESIGN as we do have at testbp.org (default-theme) would solve the issue.
Anybody out there who is able to do this ? Maybe a plug-in ?
Please do not take this as an offense, I really do love BuddyPress very much and highly appreciate the work of Andy & team & the community
In reply to: Is BuddyPress confusing to users?yeah, the Admin-Dashboard of WP / WPMU looks very complicated to people who have never used WordPress or really are not some sort of Publishers.
So an average person “writing his blog” will surely need a few days to understand the Dashboard and most likely would not need all the features it is offering.
An average user probably only wants to write some text and post an image or a video.
I am thinking of the Community I am trying to target which are people at the age of 50 and above. So I decided to de-activate “User-Blogs” from my installation, because I am sure my users will be confused with the backend-Dashboard.
I do hope that the Dashboard of WP will get a design-overhaul to make it easier to understand.
Gonna see how the “quick blog post form via the theme” from the “BP-Roadmap” will work out ? If this will be easy to use (without going into the Dashboard), then I might integrate the Blog-functionality back-in into my installation.
In reply to: New BuddyPress 1.2 default themeseems this is already fixed at testbp.org
In reply to: Group Invite Issuesyou are not doing anything wrong.
as we know, all of this is still in the works….. we just have to wait a bit and it will be fine.
In reply to: BuddyPress Editable Group SlugsDear JJJ,
I just saw that when I change the Group-name (as a user, not as the Admin), then the URL of that Group-page does not get changed but remains the URL from the originally created Group-name.
How to solve this, so that the URL gets updated when the user is changing the Group-name ?
Is this actually possible to do ?
Many thanks !
In reply to: Activity DB Design Discussionsorry to interrupt this very interesting discussion (I anyway only understand 1% of what has been said, as I am not a programmer).
Just a question:
So if I start to develop my website based on BP-version 1.2 and set up a few hundred Groups, then you might go ahead with implementing above mentioned “new things” in the future BP-version e.g. BP 1.3
Will my website and the few hundred Groups I have set-up (with BP 1.2), will this still be working with the stuff mentioned above or will I run into any issues ?
IF you are going to implement above mentioned things, would it be better to wait for this or is it rather safe to start with a website based on BP-version 1.2 ?
In reply to: Activity DB Design Discussionif the page “testbp.org/forums” could be re-designed towards something like the following website, then I think the Group-Forums would get more action and discussion ongoing.
http://vancouver.en.craigslist.org/forums/?forumID=81
Just think about it: you can make a Group-Forum-post directly at the page “testbp.org/forums” without the need of many clicks to go deep into the specific Group-Forum.
In reply to: Activity DB Design Discussionmany thanks for clearing this up !
Just go ahead with it and move on !
The other professional programmers who are complaining could still work on their ideas and suggestions and show their finished working examples to you once they have got it running. Only then you decide whether you gonna take it, change it or leave it.
Thanks again for all your efforts and moving the idea of BP ahead !
In reply to: Comments on Forum-posts ?sorry, but it was not possible to post in your other thread.
Could you please give an example of what you are talking in your initial post ?
Thanks !

New 1.2 SWA and Blog/Forum syncing: Feedback Needed
Anyway, never mind.
BTW: where is the word “bozo” coming from ?
In reply to: BuddyPress Editable Group Slugsis it possible to change the following URL at my own website from e.g.:
domain.com/groups/group-name
towards
domain.com/group-name
I would like to have this plugin if this is possible to achieve.
Many thanks !
In reply to: Spam from buddypress.orgI am sure Linda is a very pretty girl
In reply to: New Default Theme Is Availableplease let me / us know if you still want us to test the new default theme and search for bugs.
You might come to a point at which you think that everything is just working fine with integration into the new theme, then we can start doing some testing and report (possible) bugs ?
Would be happy to help out with testing. Just need to get your information at one point at which you say: “go ahead with testing…”
In reply to: New Default Theme Is Available– the “My Blogs” is fine.
– but where is the ability to “create a Blog” for new users ? This was previously included within the “Sign-Up” page, now I can not find this anymore……
Thanks a lot for your efforts !
Great theme !
In reply to: New BuddyPress 1.2 default themethink about this (as per message from Andy):
So far the BuddyPress default theme updates have taken the CSS down from 2800 (!) lines to 800. JS from 1400 to 600.
In reply to: New BuddyPress 1.2 default themeas per Andys comment at testbp.org :
quote on new BP-default theme:
It wont be too long. I am working on this, it will more than likely be checked in on Monday or Tuesday. It will still need work done on it though even after that.
quotes on BP 1.2:
Signs currently point to late January for 1.2, but I will be able to say more accurately when a beta is released. This theme will be checked into trunk next week so you can start looking at it then. There will be more updates and changes, but hopefully nothing too drastic.
It is not going to be before Christmas, there is still much left to do and there needs to be at least a few weeks of beta testing. I would say January is looking more likely. It was going to be December before I decided it was important to change the theme for 1.2. That has bumped it back.

Hi Marius,
a question related to BP-Events-plugin:
is the Events-plugin now running smoothly without any major bugs ? Will it work with the new BP 1.2 default-theme ?
I have checked the website of Erwin, but still not sure whether this plugin is fine to use in working-environments.
Appreciate your feedback.
In reply to: Group Wiki Plugin (not a release, but in progress)I like the idea of having a Wiki based on Groups.
Definitely I am very interested in using it !
Thanks !
In reply to: Is this the way Forums are supposed to work?Hi Bowe,
you are right.
I am beginning to like the Forum, also came to the conclusion that I really do need the forum for the website I am trying to create.
Also, looking at http://www.bbpress.org , it seems Matt is going to push development of the Forum-software to the next step, which is a great initiative.
