the best setup is having either Forums or Activity.
Choose which of those two fits best for your community, but try not to use both Forums and Activity.

does this mean that BuddyPress is not compatibe with WP 3.0 ?
Will the BP-GroupBlog-Plugin still work ?

have you also been able to get the page “domain.com/wp-login.php” translated into your local language ?
I am still struggling to achieve this.

I think that BuddyPress could flourish and develop and grow by ITSELF into many different directions, features and applications by the many talented Plugin-developers out there (considering the Core-Code to be stable).

Thanks to Andy, JJJ and many others who have contributed during times, the code-base is already available – I guess now is the time for talented Plugin-developers to move ahead based on that foundation. As far as I remember, Andy always encouraged Plugin-developers to engage – however each Plugin developer needs to figure out by himself how to monetize his talents.

I am sure BuddyPress is a great base for talented Plugin-developers to earn a living.

    Hi Modemlooper,
your mentioned error is always showing up when I am working on my translations as well.
Not sure what this error means and where it is coming form, but you can just ignore this error-message and it still works fine.

The original .pot-file includes all the words and it should take you only a few minutes to translate the word Groups into Team….

Thanks to Paul and Ray for keeping up with this forum and helping out !

While I do understand the logic of Automattic to get all their employed coders onto projects which generate the most money for Automattic, I would love to see Andy back dedicated 100% towards BuddyPress….

no, the german language-files are actually installed at:

    wpmu / wp-content / languages / de_DE.po
    wpmu / wp-content / languages / de_DE.mo

Should there be any additional language-files for the mentioned page ?

yeah Paul, unfortunately your Plugin does not touch that e-mail.
It seems the text of the Subject of that e-mail is not possible to translate…….not funny

regarding your comment: “….as for all the forum vs activity – i’m still hacking away at an activity stream discussion to replace bbpress…”

    1)
This would be really cool if you could code something like that to replace bbpress with an activity-stream, similar to a forum but actually a threaded stream (it just needs to be simple with posts, comments and mark as favorite). So that would be replacing the Group-Forums, meaning still having the Groups but instead of bbpress having a threaded discussion-stream

    2)
The additional stuff needed would be exactly the same activity-stream you are planning to code, but instead of related to the Groups, it should be related to a Users Profile. Like having for each User a threaded “Wall” or “Guestbook”. with posts and comments.

    3)
as Greg said, BP should focus on Blogs.
Maybe your stream replacing the bbpress could somehow be adapted to achieve easy Front-End-Posting for User-Blogs, ala P2-theme ?
This would be another application when webmasters rather want to go with User-Blogs instead of Forums.

    Many thanks,

    Erich

“….You really only need three basic building blocks; users, posts, comments…..”

users, post, comments: I would call this a Forum. So as I have deactivated the Activity-component from my own page now, it actually looks like a Forum with some Groups now, which is fine !

there are internet-developers and long-time internet-pros on this forum, not even those experts who have spend their last few months with BP understand how to use bp.org (as per comments above). Imagine newcomers: they will have no chance understanding bp.org

what do you mean when saying “Maybe changing forums to discussions?”

you mean just changing the wording from Forum to Discussions or do you mean anything else ?
