    wow !
    I would call this Forum-Design having the perfect User-Interface:

    That would be an idea for the layout of our BP.org-Forum ???

    cool page !

    How to adjust the CSS in order to make the width of the main-column (I mean the column at which we do have the Activity-Stream, roups-Directory, Members-Directory, etc.) and also make the sidebar exactly the same width as at that LookBook-website ?

    Also getting a behavior that the width of the SideBar stays constant and the width of the main-column fluctuates based on the site of the screen or browser-window ?

    Would be cool to get the BuddyBar and the Permalink-Pages also in that kind of width…….

    I have made this before when using another CMS, but I am not able to work this out on the BP-default-theme……

    Any ideas ?
    Let me know your PayPal when you are able to make it !

    thank you for your hard work to get BP 1.2.5 sorted !

    Why don´t you provide a “Donate-button” for yourself ?

    **********

    just a general question:
    So when I have a my wording customized in my language-file, and there are a few words new in this next version, how do I add those additional words into my .po file ?
    I am using POEDIT, but I did not see any possibility to add additional strings or lines into my .po-file using POEDIT.

    hmm…I quite don´t understand what you are trying to do, but it sounds interesting.
    Could you please explain or show how this looks like ? A Forum integrated with BuddyPress….?

    I am curious to understand…

    Hi Jersey,

    if you want to use Forums associated to different Groups, then yes BuddyPress is what you are looking for.
    Get yourself a shared-hosting-account (for the beginning) and find somebody on this website who will setup BuddyPress on your WP 3.0 install.

    do you know the test-website already ?

    @lincme

    those are a few reasons I have deactivated the activity-stream just now, as it is not logic and user-friendly at all.
    Just having Groups and Forums, but that is really not a Social-Network (besides the friending-component).

    seems like this widget and plugin is only useable for coders, not for non-coders ?

    is it possible to remove the Filter-Drop-Down and make just normal Tabs instead ?

    How is Facebook doing this ? I do not see a Filter or Checkboxes at that page……

    Is there any idea or suggestion of how to consolidate the Adminbar, the Navigation-Tabs and the Filter in order to make navigation simpler ?

    @erich73

    this wording is in your language-files

    …/wp-content /plugins /buddypress /bp-languages /

    check files with extension .pot / .po / .mo

    you can work those files by using a software called “POEDIT”

    @Peter,

    I do agree 100%.
    – Put the social-layer onto the Core features of WordPress: BLOGGING & MULTI-BLOGGING
    (being able to blog without the need to access the DashBoard, the DashBoard is very complicated for the average internet-user).

    – Put in the must-haves for a Social-Network: Privacy and extended User-Profiles.

    – Let the Plugin-developers do the rest and the talented ones of them will make lots of money…….

    I am sure Automattic agrees on that one 100% as well.

    “……because no one is testing the branch and no one is reporting back how various fixes have affected them…..”
    “……I typically have 5 or 6 different local test installations that I work from….”

    Can we get a few more test-websites online (probably with different set-ups) at which we ALL can test the bleeding-edge-version ?

    Currently it is hard to test new fixes at testbp.org as this website has no MultiSite-Blogs and also some other features disabled.
    testbp.org is more a marketing-website than a testing-platform.

    There are many people here who would like to do testing, but it is hard for a non-coder to set-up a local install at his computer as this know-how is simply not there for a non-coder. But having a few online-websites to do the testing, this would be possible even for non-coders.

    Just try to imagine for a minute: you are not a coder and have no experience in PHP and are not able to install WordPress or BuddyPress at all.
    Like myself, I do like testing very much and have reported a few TRAC-tickets in the past, but I do have no clue about PHP or how to setup a BP-installation.

    Yeah, you have 5 or 6 different local test installations that you work from, but we are not able to go and test on your local installs and report feedback.
    I do have one live-website, but I would not dare to test the bleeding-edge-version at my own website, as I even do not know how to install the bleeding-version at my own website
    .
    Put your different local-setups online and I am sure many non-coders will go and test.

    Many thanks,
    Erich

    I am definitely very thankful to Matt & Andy for starting this idea and bringing Open-Source-Social-Networking to the world !

    I am also very thankful to JJJ, MrMaz, Ray, Jeff, Paul, Boone, Marius and all the many other great people writing code and helping out on this forum – I have donated a few bucks already and will donate to those other guys in the future as well !

    Andy, please do not take this thread in any offensive way, but only as constructive criticism.
    Criticism is important for every project to move ahead. I am always happy when somebody criticises myself, so I can think it over and learn from it.

    ALL of you did an awesome job so far, just let us commonly find the best direction of where BP is going next.

    @foxly,

    I guess you are using the “Usernames Only Plugin” and from what I have read, Ray is already working to fix that issue or has already fixed it as there is a new version availbale just today (version 0.56).
    I am very thankful to Ray for writing this Plugin “Usernames Only” and will surely send him my donation.

    @lincme
    agree with you.

    “…….full real names instead of anonymous meaningless usernames…..”

    It does not have to be a “REAL” name, but ONE name for a member is enough.
    Having 2 names for 1 user (username and display-name) is very very confusing !

    @buddypress , @wordpress ,
    How many names are printed on YOUR business-card ?
    Take a look.

    I do not want to speak for Jeff, but I recognized from his posts on this Forum that he knows a lot about Privacy-stuff.

    I guess Jeffs Privacy-Features could have been build into the Core-Code already and would have added value to BP.
    Let him allow to build his basic-features into the Core-Code and give him the chance to make some money on top of that by providing a plugin which gives “Advanced Privacy Features”.

    The same goes for the Events-Plugin which probably only would have needed a bit of support from the Core-guys to get it properly running ?

    No Plugin and Core-Code will be 100% perfect from the beginning, but with building this stuff into the Core-Code (with having the ability to activate / deactivate those features in the backend) and therefore having the benefit that many BP-webmasters will have the chance to test those features and providing lots of feedback and for coders providing patches on each of those features in order to improve it.

    I guess that is what this article says (read it again !):
    http://toni.org/2010/05/19/in-praise-of-continuous-deployment-the-wordpress-com-story/

    Just apply “continuous deployment” to BuddyPress.

    Currently there are many coders working on their own Plugins and are the “Gatekeepers” of their own little walled garden, but think about “Crowd-Sourcing”:
    Why not providing a TRAC-tool, which gives all the talented coders on this Forum the chance to commonly work TOGETHER on a specific BP-feature (e.g. Privacy, Front-End-Blog-Posting, Events, etc.) ?

    Step out of your own tunnel-vision and take the bigger-world-view and EVERYBODY will benefit.

    Hi Peter,

    you say you are osing Blogs and Groups, I guess by using the Group-Blog-Plugin ?
    I wanted this set-up as well, but my trouble is that I do not want to send my users into a complicated Dashboard in order to write a Blog.

    Do you have a solution to this ? I guess you went with P2 ?

    Many thanks,
    Erich

    which image are you talking about ? The big one (1250 x 125px) in the top header ?
    If so, go into your Dashboard (domain.com/wp-admin) and upload a new image exactly this size in the section “Appearance”.

    Thanks cnorris,

    I have checked the strings already in the language-file and those are correctly translated.
    However those strings do not show-up in the translated language, but still in english…….

    at the Automattic-website it actually says that BP is an Open-Source-project:
