Hi Boone,
I found 2 more issues I do not know how to fix:
1)
the e-mail which the persin receives whom I invites looks like the following:
You have been invited by %INVITERNAME% to join the community.
Visit %INVITERNAME%’s profile at %INVITERURL%.
How to change the “%INVITERNAME% and %INVITERURL% to something different ?
2)
when sending an invitation to somebody, then there is the Tab “Sent Invites”. There is the section named “Group” or “Invited to Group”. But this section does not show the Group-Name.
Many thanks,
In reply to: Seo for Buddypress 1.0 betaHi Sven,
is there any risk of Google discovering the features of that plugin an therefore ignoring your specific BP-page from their index ?
What is the effect of using this plugin: lets say by using this plugin my page will be in the top2-pages of Google compared to not using this plugin my page will be at page10 at Google ?
Is there anything like this in order to rate the “success” or “capability” of using this plugin ?
Many thanks,
In reply to: admin-bar-logo: CSS hover ?that easy ?

In reply to: Ning.com Migration Tool (NMT)I am just waiting for you to write a plugin to port over all facebook-content to a BuddyPress-install

In reply to: Adding a Sign Up buttonHi Ray,
which sidebar.php file you are talking about ?
1)…themes / default / sidebar.php
or
2)….plugins / buddypress / bp-themes / bp-deault / sidebar.php
or
3)…..wp-content / themes / home / sidebar.php
Also, where do I change the text “To start connecting please log in first…….” ?
Many thanks !
Erich
In reply to: Adding a Sign Up buttongood question.
Am also interested how to get a button instead of the link “create an account”.
many thanks for clarification Boone & keep up the great work !
BTW: I am voting for Boone to become the next BP Core Developer…..
Honestly, it is quite hard to get a new website off the ground if new members create a Group and actually are not able to invite people to join their group – because they do have literally no friends at that website.
How should somebody already have friends at a website which just started off ?
So the possibility of inviting external people to your Group is quite essential to get a new BP-website started and off the ground.
Not sure how difficult it is to code 5 e-mail-fields in order to give the Group-creator the chance to invite his external friends to join his group ?
Andy ?
hey Boone,
so you are saying it would be better to just remove the Tab “Send Invites” from the “Group Creation Process” ?
Generally speaking, its hard for me to understand why there is the Tab “Send Invites” (at Group Creation) available in BP-Standard, but there are no 5 e-mail-fields available to invite external friends…..is this intentional ?
Many thanks,
Erich
unfortunately, point number 4. is missing within BuddyPress.
It is not possible to invite outside people to join your Group.
In reply to: Sending notification to registered useryour “Invite anyone by e-mail” is needed at the Group-creation-process as well.
At BP-Standard-installation, we do have the Tab “Send Invites” during the Group-Creation-process, but the feature of inviting people who are not yet members of the respective website has been missed.
At BP-Standard, the user who is creating a new Group will get confused, because he does not have any friends yet, so he will be stuck at the Tab “Send Invites”.
Therefore your plugin is so essential during the Group-creation-process.
Thank you again for all your efforts and good work on that plugin !!! You very well understand what is required for running a Community-website !
….Not sure about your email problem – has your friend checked the spam folder?…….
I am very sure this issue is related to bug within your Plugin:
During the Step “Send Invites”, I clicked on the link “Send invitations by e-mail”. Then I entered the e-mail of my friend into the first e-mail-field. Then clicked send. Then I received the message “Invitation successfully sent”.
Then I hit the back-button of my browser to go back to the Tab “Send Invites” as there is the button which says “Finish” (for finishing the Group-Set-up).
The e-mail never reached my friend.
Hi Boone,
regarding your comment “Good call on the group creation issue. I think the answer is just to turn off the message for the group creation process…..”:
Not sure I understand what you are saying, but you want to switch off your plug-in-features during the Group-Creation-process ? I am not sure this is a good idea.
Probably this can be made as option.
Generally I would suggest you include the 5 e-mail-fields directly into the Standard BP “invite” screen.
Why do you actually create a separate (new) page for your 5 e-mail-fields ?
The whole thing of inviting friends should be as simple as possible. Having any additional pages just to fill in 5 forms is overkill for the average user.
I would rather prefer having the BP-Standard-stuff in one table, like “Invite Friends who are already registered at this website”.
And then just below another table showing the 5 fields from your plugin, labeled like “Invite Friends by e-mail”.
Hey Boone,
I am just testing your Plugin “invite anyone by e-mail” at my website.
I discovered an issue in terms of logic, which I think will confuse my users.
1)
I am creating a new Group.
2)
the very last step at the Group-creation-process is “Send Invites” (at my website at least).
3)
then at this Tab “Send Invites”, the user clicks on the link “Send invitations by e-mail”.
by clicking onto this link, he is being forwarded to the screen with the 5 fields to enter the e-mails of people.
4)
But the trouble is: how is the user getting back to the previous screen which lets him click the button “Finish” in order for him to finish creating his Group ?
Of course I can hit the “back”-button of the browser, but this is not the elegant way.
Do you have any idea of how to improve this ? So that the user is not being forwarded to a new Screen when he clicks the link “Send invitations by e-mail”.
There is another issue:
I created a new Group (myself being logged-in as Admin) and invited a friend by entering his e-mail into one of the 5 fields.
But the friend did not receive the invitation to the group. Am I doing something wrong ?
Many thanks !

In reply to: button CSS ?thanks ruthless,
I do know where to find the CSS-code, but I have changed the code to “none” for each element.
I still do not get the result of having just a simple button like it is for example here at buddypress.org or at Google.com
I just want to get rid of all the default button-CSS, just having a simple button without CSS.
default:
a.button, input[type=submit], input[type=button],
ul.button-nav li a, div.generic-button a {
background: url( ../images/white-grad.png ) top left repeat-x;
border: 1px solid #ddd;
padding: 3px 10px;
-moz-border-radius: 3px;
-webkit-border-radius: 3px;
border-radius: 3px;
text-decoration: none;
color: #888;
font-size: 12px;
font-weight: normal;
vertical-align: bottom;
cursor: pointer;
}
changed all elements to NONE:
a.button, input[type=submit], input[type=button],
ul.button-nav li a, div.generic-button a {
background: none;
border: none;
padding: 3px 10px;
-moz-border-radius: none;
-webkit-border-radius: none;
border-radius: none;
text-decoration: none;
color: #888;
font-size: 12px;
font-weight: normal;
vertical-align: bottom;
cursor: pointer;
}
In reply to: button CSS ?hmmm…. I am thinking of dis-abling the buttom-CSS-styles totally.
So that the buttons look like a very simple button like the Submit-button at Google.com
I have tried to disable all default button-CSS, but still not getting the same simple button as at Google.
Do you know which CSS-items I need to disable in order to make just a simple button ?
Many thanks,
In reply to: button CSS ?looks like this is not possible just by changing the CSS-code ?
the <span> tag is missing within HTML…..
How is BuddyPress defining the width of a button ?
In reply to: button CSS ?do you have an idea how the div needs to look like and how to put 2 images into the CSS of the dafault CSS-code ?
Many thanks,
as always:
