In reply to: How to hide “Base” group in the edit profile panel?
Hi Brajesh and thanks for the quick response.
I think your code is great but my problem is that the registration page only show whatever fields that are in group 1 (default BP function) and I need a few extra fields to be filled out in the signup page, any way around this such as showing the group 2 fields in register?
Thanks,
Gene
In reply to: How to hide “Base” group in the edit profile panel?Dang, I have to reopen this thread, one thing was solved but another problem was created.
Brajesh’s code solved my “user can’t edit his name field” but I then realized that the registration page only showed the profile name field (which I renamed Username) which was the only field I had in profile group 1.
My problem now is that I need extra fields upon registration but I still want the name field hidden or not editable in the edit profile screen.
Is there something I can change in Brajesh’s code (or new code altogether) that will accomplish this?
Thanks,
Gene
In reply to: How to hide “Base” group in the edit profile panel?Wow, thank you Brajesh, it works like a charm.
What gave me the errors is that I didn’t put the <?php endif; ?> in the right place.
Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

In reply to: How to hide “Base” group in the edit profile panel?Thanks Brajesh,
Unfortunately, I get parse errors when using the provided code and I’m not PHP savvy enough to debug it (I’m learning PHP as I go along).

In reply to: Adding validation in registration form?Hmm, I wonder if it’ll work on a BP/WP single install, I might give it a try tomorrow, I don’t think it can do any harm…
“If you believe in freely-sharing all the intimate details of your life” … get a Twitter account. LOL
In reply to: Spam, Spam and more spamThe best trick I learned for fighting spam bots is to ask a question that only a human can answer and making them type it into a text box. If you change the question daily or randomize it, it makes it even tougher. Don’t do anything like math or captcha or something that a bot can calculate or decipher. Ask a question like “What color is snow?” or “How many sides does a triangle have?”
+1 for that idea, I had this on 2 SMF forums and it does work. While it doesn’t stop the odd human Spammer from registering, it stops bots dead in their tracks.
Maybe a coder would consider making such a BP plugin.
In reply to: E-mail domains blacklist doesn’t workWorse case… you could try captcha
Is there one you could recommend?
It would be great if some coder could write a simple admin defined question and answer plugin for the registration page.
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionWhy would anyone seriously want a tweetmeme button in there though? That’s something that should be customly inserted if you ask me
Exactly my thoughts, I for one, don’t want to have anything to do with Twitter.
In reply to: BuddyPress Restrict Group CreationGreat plugin, thanks.

In reply to: Buddypress needs “Site-Wide Editor” User RoleI second that, moderators are a must.
Also, it would be great for the “Site-wide Admin” to be able to edit member’s profiles (including avatars).

In reply to: Promote/Bury activity update?The only one I found is: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-like/
It only does “thumbs up” (like) but no “thumbs down” but does work with the activity stream.

In reply to: Fixed width for default theme & admin bar?There is a maximum width for any content area before the human brain can’t handle it
I sure agree with you and I also tried 980px, it looks great.
I don’t have analytics because it’s only a test site (for now).
I would not max your width to that number though as @jivany has pointed out
Would you care to elaborate? What would you max it out at?
Thanks,
Gene
In reply to: Fixed width for default theme & admin bar?Thanks Jivany,
Would you suggest a lower value then (960 or 1000)?
Cheers,
Gene
In reply to: Fixed width for default theme & admin bar?So far, I modified the following in default.css (body):
width: 1024px;
/* min-width: 960px;
max-width: 1250px; */And it works (haven’t a clue if that was the right thing to do)
Now, my problem is with adminbar.css, the only way I can get the 1024px fixed width and have the bar align correctly is by changing this:
body#bp-default #wp-admin-bar .padder {
min-width: 1024px;
max-width: 1024px;If there is a better way to do this, please don’t hesitate to chime in…

In reply to: Date selector bug?Hi Mark,
I read your post and the description field works as it should on my install.
Kinda weird that dates are buggy for me and not for you and the opposite happens with Description…
The strange thing is that this problem didn’t exist before I updated to 1.2.3
Cheers,
Gene
In reply to: Date selector bug?I also registered new test users, filled out the Date of birth field and the same happened, the day field saved as actual minus one day.
Should this be reported as a bug?
Got almost what I wanted by modifying and adding code.
Thanks anyway…
OK, didn’t make much progress but I found the way to change the color of links. Any takers for the rest?

In reply to: Private message inbox auto-purging or limitsI agree, this would cut down on database bloat.
Thanks all, I’ll either have to wait for a BP release where BP pages are pages or get a decent BP compatible theme which can be uploaded to wp-contents/themes.
I’ll mark this as resolved (even though it isn’t)…
Gene
@DJPaul Thanks for the info.
I’m playing around with a simple child theme by creating only a style.css file and so far, the templates work but importing the stylesheets doesn’t seem to work, I added the suggested lines in my style sheet but to no avail.
/* Inherit the default theme styles */
@import url( ../../plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/default.css );
/* Inherit the default theme adminbar styles */
@import url( ../../plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/adminbar.css);Thanks,
Gene
@DJPaul If I don’t need to move it, how can I get the BP default pages to show up in my Admin pages section? I experimented by creating the Activity, Members and Groups pages but I ended-up having 2 instances of those pages in my navigation menu.
@pcwriter I’m playing around with that but having difficulties importing the default stylesheet.
