At the same time, I don’t see why the activity stream need to take up more than half of the overall width…I’d like to feature more articles from the community and make my site look a little more like e magazine (ala huffpo or daily beast).
Has anyone experimented with a reducing the width of the activity stream and had it still look good?
FWIW, this wasn’t a problem for me until I upgraded to 1.2.3. Maybe it’s a coincidence, but I’d banned .info a few weeks ago and hadn’t gotten any registrations from them since. But since the upgrade, I get 30-50 .info’s a day.
Are we sure nothing changed in 1.2.3 that would effect this?
I think that “like” has legs…we just need to figure out a better use for it. Perhaps a “most liked” widget?
Personally, I would love to see “like” expanded to include blog posts within MU, making it function like an internal tweet, promoting good posts in the activity stream.
She and ron created a “promote to main blog” plugin that I use on housingstorm. It allows me to pick and chose the best posts from the community to load to the main blog.
It’s not perfect…with duplication in the activity stream and some funky comment settings that I have to change each time, but it does the job.
I wasn’t thrilled with it before, but they just updated it the other day and it does work well. Each group has a calendar. You can set permissions. And, there is a widget to show either all public events or just the events for a specific group (nice for a group blog).
It’s certainly very basic, but it does work.
New calendar items don’t show up in the activity stream though.
