@beenyoung you can submit a BuddyPress Trac ticket at:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/
Trac is where the core developers hang out so if you think there is a bug in the way the BP core works then that is the best place to raise the issue.
In reply to: Buddypress Custom Members Page Item AlignmentAs an example, if you wanted to align-right the “active time ago” text you could put this in your theme’s style.css
.item-meta .activity { float: right; }As I said though, there are many ways to do it depending on your exact needs.
text-align: rightis an example. Make the parent elementposition: relative;and then useposition: absolute; right: 0; top: 0;is another. The best approach will all come down to what you’re trying to achieve visually overall. In reply to: Buddypress Custom Members Page Item AlignmentYou can align the page elements with CSS. Try taking a look at: http://w3schools.com/css/
To position stuff, there are various approaches you can use. Look specifically at how floats work. Reading about positioning and aligning will be useful too.
In reply to: All members are shown as last active nowHave you tried reverting to the default theme to see if the problem still happens? If the problem goes away then it is likely to be an issue with your custom theme.
In reply to: Validating xProfile fields – limit lengthAfter taking a look at how BP does it my questions 1 and 2 have been answered. Now facing a new but related problem:
When I redirect the user back to the edit profile page to display the “Too many characaters have been entered” message – any new text the user may have entered into the input fields is lost.
For example – the max characater limit for location is 10
1. Location value is currently: London
2. The user updates the location field to: London, United Kingdom
3. The field validation kicks in – the page is refreshed with error message displayed “Too many characters”
4. Location value reads: LondonSo, you can see the illegal value the user has entered “London, United Kingdom” has been lost. My aim is to redisplay the illegal value so the user can modify it under 10 characters.
Perhaps location isn’t the best example. Imagine if the user has written an about me paragraph which is over the character limit – on clicking submit the page refreshes and they are told they’ve entered too many characters. Their old about me text is displayed and all their new hard work has been lost.
In reply to: Notification to user after saving profile changes<?php do_action( 'template_notices' ); ?>could be in a template file upstream such as home.php or member-header.php? It depends on your theme. As to why it isn’t working after profile edit – this could be down to your theme. Have you made any theme customisations? Do you get a confirmation message when using the default theme? In reply to: Validating xProfile fields – limit lengthHi @danbp, thanks for the link. That isn’t quite what I’m after. It is more to do with limiting the length of what is echo’d to screen where as I’m trying to validate and error handle the data which is captured.
In reply to: Share UsersAnd, if possible, not messing with multisite as I think it is overkill for the purpose
To me, multisite sounds like it is exactly what you’re looking for but I could be wrong without seeing your exact requirements. Have a read of this article written by one of the moderators on wordpress.org – it should give you a good idea if multisite is for you:
In reply to: Notification to user after saving profile changesRight at the very top would be a good spot. It doesn’t really matter though as it will just determine where on the page the template notice text is displayed.
In reply to: FollowYou can use them both at the same time. I’m 99.82% sure there won’t be any conflicts.
In reply to: Notification to user after saving profile changesMake sure you have
<?php do_action( 'template_notices' ); ?>in the edit.php template. The template notices hook on to this action. In reply to: FollowYes, it’s possible and very easily done using:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-followers/In reply to: Confirmation MessageHey @mercime
The answer on Stack Overflow changes the subject line and body text of the activation email. The text @derock299 would like to change is displayed on the registration page (registration.php template). Probably worth changing both though, for a complete custom look and feel 🙂
In reply to: Confirmation MessageYou could use a language file. See this article for more info:
In reply to: Image gallery plugin with buddypressI have to agree with @danbp’s rtMedia suggestion. It is one of the best media plugins I have come across. That said, I haven’t had the chance to use the Pro version yet.
Hi @unit9
You’re right.
<?php do_action( 'bp_footer' ); ?>and<?php do_action( 'bp_after_footer' ); ?>are points at which things can be inserted. If you want to remove (dequeue) the CSS documents and script, you can useremove_action()See this helpful tutorial on how to remove scripts and styles:
In reply to: Pages semi-transparentHave you tried
opacity: 0.5;In reply to: [Resolved] Filter for notifications slugThanks @djpaul
In reply to: Filtering bp_format_timeAh got ya! Thanks @shanebp i’m on your wavelength now.
$datebeing a string I can perform some operations on.In reply to: Filtering bp_format_timeI’m actually looking at formatting the date in private messages and in that case WP doesn’t call the function with
true.$just_dateis set to false by default so that part is all good.as you say I think i’ll have to write my own custom
bp_format_timefunction. Thanks for your help!In reply to: 'THIS WEBPAGE HAS A REDIRECT LOOP.'@tatjanalekic glad you got to the bottom of the problem!
In reply to: Filtering bp_format_timeHi @shanebp
If you take a look at the
bp_format_timefunction (I have copied to Pastie.org for easy access) you’ll see the$datevariable that is being returned needs both the$dateand$timevariables (see line 22):return apply_filters( 'bp_format_time', $date )only seems to allow me to pass$dateto my filter function. Is there a way to pass$timevariable as well or am I looking at this wrong? In reply to: 'THIS WEBPAGE HAS A REDIRECT LOOP.'Redirect loops are pesky. Try deactivating all plugins, 1 by 1 until you find the culprit. By default – BP doesn’t cause redirect loops so it is highly likely a plugin is to blame.
Perhaps you have a HTTPS plugin installed?
In reply to: Redirect for members re entering a community@yvonnetaylor no problem! I like your site by the way, I have a golden retriever 🙂
Have you tried Using the default theme to see if the problem happens? You should deactivate all plugins too, 1 by 1 until you find the source of the problem.
