In reply to: Buddypress, BBPress and WooCommerce
Iโm going to post this thread in BuddyPress forums to see if they are aware of whatโs going on but any help here would be greatly appreciated.
This is the BuddyPress forum?
Regarding root profiles, there may be a problem with certain logic working in 1.9.2 if root profiles are enabled. Root profiles are enabled if your links look like this:
example.com/usernamerather than:
example.com/members/usernamehave you used WordPress.com? That uses WP MU and has more than 10,000 users. In fact, I’d guess it easily has over 1 million users.
Perhaps somebody here already runs a BP or MU site which has lots of users and could give you some feedback?
In reply to: Buddypress, BBPress and WooCommerceAre you using root profiles?
In reply to: Logic has changed with Buddypress 1.9.2Are you using root profiles?
Your problem may be related to a change which went live in 1.9.2. Have a read this ticket from comment 10 onwards:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5307Hi @imdreamer
he said wordpress is not a good solution to build a large scaleโs social network, it has limitation in its core structure
What was the limitation that your friend was referring to?
@buddyboss thanks! I did try searching but found nothing. That thread would have saved me having to dig around
bp-messages-template.phpto find the answer.Done it with:
$args = array( 'order' => 'DESC' ); if ( bp_thread_has_messages( $args ) ) :In reply to: Disable Avatar CropYou could try adding this to your theme’s functions.php:
remove_action( 'wp_head', 'bp_core_add_cropper_inline_js' );It’s a quick and dirty approach – just removes the script necessary for the cropping to happen. You’ll still be shown the image crop step – they’ll just be no way for the user to actually do the cropping.
Note: Untested.
In reply to: Buddypress / WP profile syncingThe
xprofile_sync_wp_profilefunction should take care of the last name for you. Isn’t this happening?Gumby isn’t one I’ve used personally, but agreed it does look good! I see it’s built with Sass – which is always good.
@marcella1981 I’m probably the worst person you’d want to help out on a design project ๐ – my eye for design isn’t great. I pretty much use a front-end framework for everything – check out Bootstrap and Semantic UI. There’s also Foundation which is V popular but I haven’t used that.
@marcella1981 I think you should really have a target audience in mind instead of building something and wondering who will use it. I’d come up with a list of ‘audiences’ and then perhaps build a theme for each one.
Take the Theme Directory as an example – in there you will have themes for photographers, themes for beauty therapists, themes for the big corporates and so on. Each theme author has a pre-determined target audience they are designing for. If you think of it that way, it might give your coding some direction – and maybe even ease the headache slightly (we all get them) ๐
@marcella1981 visually, I’ve got to say version 2.0 is a huge improvement over 1.0. I think the design of 2.0 looks very stylish!
In reply to: CANNOT find the right template file…Your file should be:
/buddypress/members/index-directory.php
and not:
/buddypress/members/index.php
(which is what I think you mentioned you have).
In reply to: You tube link@ubernaut or YouTube’s server is down (unlikely but possible) ๐
In reply to: You tube link@ubernaut is right – it’s called oEmbed and it’s a feature provided by WordPress core. BuddyPress supports oEmbeds in activity updates by default. If you’re not seeing a YouTube video after pasting in a YouTube video’s link, then there is possibly a problem with your theme.
In reply to: Problems with the login widgetAh OK. No problem.
The fix here would be to add some CSS to your theme’s style.css document.
input.classname1 { width: 100%; }input.classname2 { width: 100%; }You could try adding that snippet and make sure to change
classname1andclassname2to the class used on the username and password inputs (If you site was live then I could tell you these but can’t tell from the screenshot). In reply to: Problems with the login widgetIs there a plugin to make BuddyPress compatible also with themes not specifically designed for it?
Not that I know of.
That said, if the display of the widget fields is the only problem you’re having then a fix shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Do you have a link to your site?
In reply to: Problems with the login widgetHi @ipnotico
This is likely a problem with your theme’s CSS. Which theme are you using?
In reply to: BuddyPress 2014 SurveyBP 1.9 was released just recently so BP 2.0 won’t be available any time soon.
In reply to: scalablity of buddypress@thatmtnman it’s getting better – lots of performance improvements are in-progress and many are planned. See some of the recently active Trac tickets for examples:
In reply to: Looking for hook before bp_signup_validate@terraling nice solution! Using that approach, I don’t think you will need any JavaScript at all now.
In reply to: Looking for hook before bp_signup_validateOops I do apologise! I read up to “What can I hook into?” and couldn’t think of a hook then got carried away thinking of how you could solve the problem ๐
EDIT: Perhaps you could request a new hook?
In reply to: Audio Playlist for BuddyPress membersYou guys should let the rtMedia plugin developers know you’re unhappy with the display. If enough people agree then I’m sure they’d look into it!
In reply to: Looking for hook before bp_signup_validateHow about tricking BP into thinking the password has been entered twice? You can do that with a little JavaScript. You’d need to make the 2nd password field into a hidden input so that the value is still submitted with the form.
Here is the general idea:
<input type="password" name="signup_password" id="signup_password" class="input" value="" /> <input type="hidden" name="signup_password_confirm" id="signup_password_confirm" value="" />JS:
<script> $('#signup_password').keyup(function () { $('#signup_password_confirm').val(this.value); }); </script>
