In reply to: Forwarding Messages
Hi @akovia
There’s only really a need to supply your environment info if you’re troubleshooting a problem (if something is broken). Regarding the forwarding of messages, I’m not sure that is possible by default, actually. May I ask where abouts you read about it?
In reply to: Personalize profile navigation link textThese text strings get set in the
setup_nav()method. See here for an example. They’re translatable via a language file but to my knowledge they’re not filterable. That means whilst it will be easy to change the text to something fixed such as ‘My activity’, it will be difficult changing it to something variable such as ‘Pete’s activity’.Ref: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/customizing/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/

In reply to: Daily to do listIt would be a fairly big task to write something like that. If writing it yourself or paying a developer is out of the question, have you thought about using a similar sort of plugin and modifying it to your needs? The challenge then would be to find something similar
In reply to: Daily to do listHi @martinblack
This sounds like an interesting idea for a plugin. But it’s very custom so I’m not sure if you’d find something like this already available.
In reply to: Login As User@maxmore88 if you’re saying you would like to log in using the same role as your customer then that is possible. For example, subscriber, contributor, editor and so on. You’d just need to set up a new user account which has been assigned the same role.
However, it isn’t possible to log in using the same user ID as your customer. The only way I can see that this would be possible is for you to ask for their password (which you should never do).
@shanebp
debug_backtrace()looks interesting, I’ll find that one useful!In reply to: User avatar redirects to random page, not profileAgree with @shanebp!
Iām trying to isolate an apparent quirk in BuddyPress having to do with an embedded user avatar image (via shortcode) not linking properly to the user profile…
To my knowledge, BP doesn’t supply shortcodes? I suspect if you search your theme for something like
add_shortcode( 'shortcode-name-here'and look in the hook’s code, therein you’ll find the problem.Ref: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_shortcode
In reply to: Where is bp_after_member_header definedSometimes plugin authors throw out a hook and don’t actually bite themselves. It’s a good way to make a plugin extendible š
In reply to: Where is bp_after_member_header definedHi @becks-star
bp_profile_after_headerisn’t a function. It’s an action hook. You would usually write a function of your own and ‘hook’ it tobp_profile_after_header.For example:
function my_callback() { // Do something amazing... } add_action( 'bp_profile_after_header', 'my_callback' );You can read more about hooks here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Hooks
In reply to: members portfolio with videoIn reply to: BP Default Cookie UsageHi @packjazz,
One of the main uses of cookies within BuddyPress is in template message display. In this case, cookies are used to store generated error or success messages and display them after the page has been reloaded.
If you try searching the BP code base for
setcookie, you should find how else BP utilises cookies.Note: WordPress probably utilises cookies too.
In reply to: Change "private message link"There is a plugin available which does something similar. Check out BuddyMessageUX by Philopress. It allows you to stay on a profile page and send messages.
In reply to: How to change Button ColorHi @jolinar07
You need to find the theme’s style.css file and add your CSS to that.
In reply to: Buddy Press Notification Bar & WoocommerceI think WooCommerce might disable the admin bar but I’m not entirely sure why. Try adding this to your theme’s functions.php file:
add_filter( 'woocommerce_disable_admin_bar', '__return_false' );In reply to: Problems with "loggedin_user_id()" in codeTo explain what I mean’t, see this example:
In reply to: Problems with "loggedin_user_id()" in codeget_current_user_id()returns anint. Not sure if the type in this case will make much difference but perhaps your function is expecting a string?Try doing this:
$user_id = get_current_user_id(); $user_id = (string)$user_id;Ref: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_current_user_id
In reply to: Problems with "loggedin_user_id()" in codeSorry, I didn’t see you’d posted the link to your code. I don’t think the 500 Internal Server Error is being caused by your use of those functions. Perhaps the error you’re getting is a result of code elsewhere?
In reply to: Problems with "loggedin_user_id()" in codeI’m not sure what exactly is on line 8 but make sure you use opening and closing PHP tags like this:
<?php bp_loggedin_user_id(); ?> <?php get_current_user_id(); ?>The reason I ask the question is due to the following reply I received on a question I asked here
The gist of it was the use of a language file is bad practice and any translations made in a language file are overwritten on WordPress upgrade. However, I’m not sure I quite agree. What are your thoughts?
In reply to: add friend buttonHi @beda69
You should be able to add
<?php bp_add_friend_button(); ?>to your member template. If you don’t have a member template set-up, check out the Template Hierarchy article which will show you how to create one.In reply to: I want to create a social network on buddypressHi @richonbp
(1) A combination of PHP, JavaScript, jQuery and Ajax is the usual.
(2 – 4) Depends on your requirements
(5) Usually a combination of WordPress and BuddyPress to begin with. Then any plugins you need. You might also want to choose a themeHope this helps!
When you’re ready to go ahead, try posting your requirements and some contact information on the BP Jobs Board – there are some good programmers around that check on that forum regularly.
I’m no expert in jQuery but I think buddypress.js uses
jqto reference jQuery. And it’s perfectly OK to do that if you do something like thisvar jq = jQuery;(which buddypress.js does). I don’t think the problem is with buddypress.js. Instead, check jQuery is enqueued on your homepage. And also check you’re enqueueing it just once.Hi @rossagrant
Try using Pastebin
In reply to: Problem with Registering a new userA good place to check out the BuddyPress code is on the GitHub repo. Signups are managed by the BP_Signup class.
