Yep, like @hnla said. BuddyPress’ DB requirements are the same as WordPress’.

The list near the top of https://codex.buddypress.org/themes/theme-compatibility-1-7/template-hierarchy/ shows the entire template hierarchy. Adding a buddypress.php file to your theme should have it load that template.

@ripozzo The best approach is to get as familiar with BP as possible, running local development installs of BP that you can play around with, reading the current codex guides, then helping out on the forum answering any questions you can.
