    :) see told you so!
    Rich has a plugin – BuddyPress Restrict Group Creation

    So in other words you can follow someone but be their mortal enemy – as the saying goes ” keep your friends close but your enemies closer”

    It’s possible that ‘Follwers/Following’ is more useful than ‘Friends’ I’m trying to see – at the moment – what the problems are or may be with having both of these active or ‘Friends’ deactivated

    :)

    Display:none is an alternative though, wouldn’t be my first choice as technically it’s still there, however in dealing with more than one occurrence of this it would be simpler.

    Simplest way would be to delete the markup entirely in /members/single/member-header.php

    removing this line:
    <span class=”activity”><?php bp_last_activity( bp_displayed_user_id() ) ?></span>

    Preferably in a child theme copy of the file.

    They will be dealt with shortly, in the meantime if we can try and ignore them, and not draw too much attention to the little…

    Don’t waste time with java,freenode just gave me the run around for half an hour and I’m pissed :)

    Haven’t really time to think this through but your approach is correct but the conceptual one isn’t? how about two arrays one containing all the meta actions in functions.php the second is in the entry.php – in the second the user sets the the ones they want/don’t want then the two arrays are compared.

    Perhaps your way does work, but then it needs to be permenant along with a sort of light switch series of user configurable parameters in the activity entry loop sort of:
    ## user config options ##
    // 0 = off 1 = on
    $bp_link_vote = ‘0’;

    That’s not correct but I do something similar quite often with other stuff, I think there’s a far simpler approach for the end user somewhere.

    Can’t help but think this is simply overcomplicated for the end result! (not your attempt per se rich) Just makes me think there are simpler approaches and roll on a re think of the API and templating.

    It has activity set to front page. Go to dashboard menu General > Reading and there you can change the front page display -select ‘static page’ set ‘Activity’ as front create a new blank page named ‘News’ ? and then select that page to display posts on.

    I’m with you 100% on the privacy policy actually.

    Not sure about the hyperlinks in localization file would have thought not, but did just check out of curiosity and the text string that is editable in admin will actually take markup, doesn’t strip it out so you could enter links directly, but also would have thought it shouldn’t be too difficult to modify the plugin to take another link.

    original:
    background: url( ../images/60pc_black.png );

    new:
    background: #000 url( ../images/60pc_black.png );

    That will darken the background right down, adjust the color of text?

    line~50:
    #wp-admin-bar li a {
    padding: 7px 15px 7px 15px;
    color: #eee; <<<<< change to ??? #F0CF35
    text-decoration: none;
    font-size: 11px;
    }

    Line 16 of adminbar.css in /budypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/

    You could simply add #000 to the background shorthand declaration as it’s using a trans png graphic so adding a flat colour will darken the background down.

    In doing this the general advice is to do so in a child theme otherwise your changes will be overwritten on upgrades.

    What does Traveljunkies checkbox do ?

    Can it not simply be reworded to say something like:

    “By checking this box you are accepting the terms and conditions of this site and acknowledge that you are over 18 and have read the privacy statement”

    Although you don’t really need to have users read a privacy statement which is really there to cover you in pseudo legal manner.
    Reading the T&C’s is more important.

    The checkbox is simply an overt explicit action that a user must take in order to be able to proceed further with registration. In theory you can say what you please and selecting the checkbox simply acknowledges what’s written.

    Have a read through of this page:
    https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

    Which explains how to proceed and it’s actually a lot simpler than might at first be thought.
    If it’s still not clear post back and someone can walk you through the steps you don’t understand.

    it’s better if you were to set up a basic child theme folder rather than edit the theme files that live in ‘default’ this way you do not overwrite your mods when upgrading.

    Essentially that section of PHP does still parse it simply has no means of rendering or returning browser output, but you can examine the source and note that the slugs and site_url are returned.

    It is.

    Have a good look through the backend BP options and then your user account settings. Having a good play around with an install will help to familiarize yourself with it’s options.

    You can use comments in that fashion however it does leave unnecessary markup in sorce view and the PHP still parsing?

    I would tend do remove the whole section using a silly maths expression, something like:

    <?php if(1 + 1 == 4): ?>

    All of the link from php if(‘activity’

    to the
    endif; followed by new closing endif

    <?php endif;>

    One of the others might have a better take on this though.

    if you need to post markup to display not parse you will need to escape all the ‘<‘ using & lt; – no spaces

    It’s under the BuddyPress menu:

    /wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-profile-setup

    What are these links for that you wish to create?

    The WP pages tie into that nav system so creating a new WP ‘Page’ will automagically appear in that set of li elements.

    It sounds to me that you are wanting to create pages, and just need to bear in mind that WP still functions in much the same way as you would be used to without BP activated.

    Edit/ I removed your duplicate post as requested.

    The simplest way would be to edit the header.php in a child theme copy of the file and remove the li item entry for activity.

    In what sense “but i don’t know what this is”

    Have you simply tried selecting one of the other options in the set of available permalink structures, selecting one of these other than ‘default’ causes the system to have to create and write to the .htaccess file.

    Can you try – if you haven’t already – selecting another permalink option and clicking ‘save’ and report back what the screen returns as a message.

    huh too slow! :)
    @dlittle800 there isn’t much point starting a new thread on the same subject running essentially duplicate threads can lead to confusion and duplication of effort, please continue in the original:

    I’ll post to it to ensure it’s bumped up.
