    Did you not see my post immediately above yours? ;)

    Please start a new thread as even my last post is 4 months old and once again much has changed in the theme architecture.

    I suggest creating a new thread in the “Third party Components & Plugins” forum as this thread was originally started for discussion of the features that members would like to see in any media plugin, not just your plugin.

    This thread should not be used to support your Company’s Kaltura plugin or make announcements about your plugin as you are not the OP. Besides, you will more than likley get more interest and visibility by starting a new thread.

    When you have created a new thread, simply make a quick post here announcing the new thread.

    If you are using MAMP, then you should not have to touch the .htaccess file.

    See this video article that Andy wrote/created on installing BuddyPress locally:

    Unfortunately, I cannot make it. But, if someone brings their Mac to the bar, I will have a drink with you via iChat!

    Yeah, I know that will not happen. Have fun!

    In other words, as jjj is saying, search the forum for threads on “deep integration”.

    https://buddypress.org/forums/search.php?q=deep+integration

    I’m not sure if this is still accurate, but you can also give this a try:

    Make sure that you have a .htaccess file in the root of your WPMu install. Also, to better help you out, you need to answer the questions found in the thread to which DJPaul linked.

    As this is not an issue with WPMU or BP not functioning properly, you need to speak with your hosting provider. If you are paying for a dedicated server, they should be able to help you out. Specifically, make sure that they are not throttling your bandwidth for some reason.

    What type of tech support are you specifically looking for? There is a lot of free support on these forums.

    By the way, just in case you are not aware, there are a few high-profile business-based sites that are using BuddyPress–at least some of BP’s components. For instance, http://pro.gigaom.com/ has integrated BP, although it does not have all the components enabled.

    The main reason I switched to BP (this is a continuation of a post I made on another thread) is because of the potential I saw in it as a platform to build robust, serious, social-based business platforms.

    If there are features you would like to see in this particular plugin, then I suggest posting a comment on their blog.

    I just changed the Password of my database at my hosting-provider.

    …

    I have changed my “wp-config.php” file and entered the new password.

    …

    Jus try to change the Password of your database and you will see this error-message within the “Forums”-page of your website.

    Did you also change the DB password in your bb-config.php file as well?

    /** MySQL database password */
    define( 'BBDB_PASSWORD', 'xxxx' );

    Please answer DJPaul’s questions as well.

    You must have proper rewrite rules in a .htaccess file and mod_rewrite enabled. If you successfully installed WPMU, then it automatically creates a basic, working .htaccess file. Check to make sure that that file exists. Since it is a hidden file, you will need to set your file browser to view hidden files. If it does exist, then next thing to verify is that your hosting provider has mod_write enabled for the Apache.

    I am using latest BP-version 1.0.3

    The latest BP version is 1.1.2.

    What version of WMPU are you running?

    @jeffsayre

    Participant

    The Kaltura plugin still indicates that it requires BP 1.0.3. I would recommend waiting until it has been updated to 1.1.2 or later.

    The developers of the plugin should be using the trunk version of BuddyPress to update their plugin, possibly waiting until the 1.2 release of BP to reoffer their work.

    I can personally attest that their has been significant forward progress over the last eight months. As Andy stated above, the changes that were implemented between 1.0 and 1.1 were made to give BuddyPress a stronger foundation going forward.

    I’ve actively used a number of social platforms, and made the decision 8 months ago to get involved in BuddyPress because I felt it had the most potential–even though it was just a little over a year old at the time. I have been very happy with that decision.

    I am confident that BuddyPress will continue to evolve and its development continue at the proper pace.

    Okay, I’ll add a few thoughts and ask a question or two here as well–in no particular order of importance.

    • When describing the avatar-uploading behavior in point 2 of your your OP, you state that:

      the cropper tool fails to grab the image and displays only a black 88px x 16px background “bar” in the avatar viewer.

      That behavior can indicate one or more issues. Here are a couple.

      First, it could mean that one of the dimensions of your image file is too small. By default, BuddyPress sets the small avatar at 50 by 50 and the large avatar at 150 by 150. So, if your source image is smaller than 150 on at least one of its dimensions, you could have issues with creating the large avatar. If it is smaller than 50 on at least one of its dimensions, you could have issues with creating the small and large avatar. You will see black for any missing pixels, meaning that the cropper has to add pixels to bring the image size p to the minimum required dimensions

      Second, it may be that your server is running too old of a version of the GD image library.

    • In your post just above this one, you talk about using the auto-upgrade feature for WPMU. I never use the auto-upgrade feature when upgrading WPMU or BuddyPress. It is simple and quick enough to manually upgrade them and it gives you more control and assurance that it is done right.
    • You mentioned that you do not have any additional BuddyPress plugins installed and activated but that you do have a couple of WPMU plugins activated. When trying to figure out issues with your setup, you need to distill your environment down to the lowest, common denominator. That means deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress and using the default BP theme. So, although you only have the Akismet and Default Blog Settings plugins activated, I would suggest deactivating them when trying to figure out what is going wrong.
    • Are you on a shared or dedicated server? Talk with your hosting firm to see if there is some javascript-based application that the hosting firm has running on your server that could be interfering with the basic JS operations in WPMU. For instance, a MooTools-based application that has a conflict with the jQuery framework used by WPMU. Although this is a very slight possibility since you’ve indicated this behavior has happened on three different hosts.

    I went to bed and it was 2.8.5.1. I just went to download and it is now 2.8.5.2.

    There was a posting bug discovered that required an additional incrementally tagged version.

    Have you read the comments in bp_core_deprecated.php–especially those that are found in the “BEGIN DEPRECATED SIGNUP FUNCTIONS” section?

    * Instead of duplicating the WPMU signup functions as in previous versions

    * of BuddyPress, all signup functionality is now in the template for easier

    * customization. Check out the default theme in the file ‘register.php’.

    In reply to: IE broke my CSS

    @jeffsayre

    So you can expect to see a lot of IE6 and IE7 browsers visiting your site.

    Although you can expect about half of the users who visit your site to be using IE, very few will be using IE6. This of course varies with the type of site. If your site is focused on PC-only based issues, then of course a larger percentage of users will be using some version of IE.

    As of September 2009, IE6 accounted for only 12% of browser use:

    http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

    This is why many corporate websites have stopped worrying about supporting IE6.

    But I digress. Back to the OP’s issue. As Boone intimated above, it is all too common to have issues with IE breaking your site’s design. Ironically, your best bet is to use Firefox with the FireBug Add-on to investigate what is causing the problem. If it is only an IE6 issue, then you need to decide if it is worth your time figuring out a CSS work around.
