In reply to: Profile Field Setup href Bug?
If you view the source of your Admin profile page, you have something strange happening:
<p><a href="http://randyjensenonline.com/wpmutest/members/?s=blah</p>
<p>blah</p>
<p>blah">blah</p>
<p>blah</p>
<p>blah</a></p>There is an “a” tag that does not close until the last “blah”. Did you place the href in there, or did it populate the field on its own after saving?
Perhaps the infamous “Blah” bug–whatever that is.
In reply to: What is the correct way to alter the admin-bar.cssOops! You are right!
Well, if you want to do more than CSS edits, now you know where to look.
In reply to: What is the correct way to alter the admin-bar.cssThere is an article in codex on this topic!
In reply to: BP Skeleton Member Theme – Missing “Settings” PagesLook at bp-core-catchuri.php. You’ll find all sorts of good URL discovery and parsing functions.
You can use this to test for the current component. If you are on the settings page, as an example, this will evaluate to “settings”.
$bp->current_componentIn reply to: Spots Kenya Launched WOOPWell, done! I know you have put a lot of time into this project and it shows!
i have noticed that it is really slow… how can i get this sorted do i contact my server… could my site be slow due to all the plugins
There are a number of reasons this could be happening. It could be plugin related. You may wish to investigate instituting object caching. See this article: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/improving-performance/
But, the best initial advice is to contact your hosting firm and have them help you figure this out. Depending on the hosting plan you have, a few of the more obvious causes are:
– There could be memory issues (caused by insufficient memory allocated to your account, by memory leakage, by Apache being poorly configured, your site is hitting a memory limit–although with memory limits you usually receive a message indicating just that)
– You may be hitting a preset bandwidth limit (so much throughput over a given short period of time). But you should receive some sort of a message if this is the case.
– If you are on a shared, non-vps setup, you could simply be getting penalized by other sites unfairly hogging the server’s resources.
– It could be a MySQL server issue
These are just a few of the possibilities. Your hosting firm should be able to help you pinpoint the cause–or at least get close to understanding what is happening.
In reply to: bp-photo what a GREAT plugin!Haha! Manoj beat me to it!
Manoj, I just looked at your readme.txt file and see that there could be some confusion. See my post above.
In reply to: bp-photo what a GREAT plugin!First of all, you still may have an issue with the bppicture-album plugin being improperly installed. The readme.txt file has an error in its “Theme” section. It states that:
Move the "/wp-content/plugins/bp-album/album/" directory
to "/wp-content/bp-themes/bpmember/"
"album" directory should be at the same level as "/wp-content/bpmember/groups"
and "/wp-content/bpmember/profile" etc...You need to do this instead:
Keep /bp-album/ within the bppicture-album directory.
What you need to relocate is the album directory.
So, you move the "album" directory out of /bppicture-album/ and
place it into /wp-contents/bp-themes/bpmember/.Make sure you have done that. If you have done this properly and are getting this message, then you will have to go through the process of deactivating all the other plugins (except BuddyPress), then reactivating them one at a time until you see the problem occur.
In reply to: BP Skeleton Member Theme – Missing “Settings” Pagesr-a-y
You are not going crazy!
The reason you cannot find a “Settings” page in the Skeleton Member theme is the same as why you cannot find one in the default bpmember theme (if you look). It is handled via one of the core BuddyPress files. Look at bp-core-settings.php and you’ll find what you need.

I’m glad it all worked out! Those darn php.ini files can mess you up sometimes.
In reply to: Autogenerate or remove usernameDonnacha-
You are correct. It should not be that difficult. There are a few special characters in an email address that may need to be properly handled ( the period, the @ sign, potentially a dash in some addresses).
I suppose you could use htmlentities() to do this, but I don’t see why it would not work. Although I believe WPMU simply escapes the email address on POST.
Of course, this would not prevent people from entering an all-character username. I guess you’d simply perform the standard check to see if a validly-formatted email address was entered.
In fact as one of the goals for BuddyPress (and therefore I assume WPMU) is to implement the Open Stack, there will need to be a way for people to signup and sign in using their email address.
In reply to: Privacy options (friends only viewing)I have not seen Pcrain in the forums for quite some time. I doubt you’ll get a response. This thread was started 8 months ago. Since then, the BuddyPress codebase has changed considerably and the solutions presented in this thread may be out of date.
If you have not yet read this thread, please do so.
To your point, a proper privacy component is in the works. It will be available as a plugin on a future version of BuddyPress.
In reply to: bp-photo what a GREAT plugin!marcin_albatros-
This could be caused by another plugin being improperly installed. Do you have any plugins besides BuddyPress and bppicture-album installed and activated? If so, what are they.

You already have an active thread on the same topic here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3146
What you are reporting is related to this known bug. You can read more about that bug here: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/775

Okay, try changing your new, custom php.ini file to this:
memory_limit=48MB
upload_max_filesize=10M
post_max_size=20MAlso, is your site running PHP4 or PHP5?
In reply to: How can I remove Logout link from the userbar?Brian-
I see that you are new to the BuddyPress forums. So, first things first, welcome!
Now, so as to help you more successfully navigate these forums, a few rules of the road. First, look at the sticky topics at the very top of the main forum page. There are a lot of useful, key pieces of advice that can be found there.
Second, posting in a 2-month old forum that is marked resolved will most likely not get you very far. Why? Because many of us skip over forum threads marked as resolved, looking to spend our time on issues that are still bothering members. Please read this thread for more tricks of the trade
Third, be careful when looking to follow advice in threads that are more than a month old. BuddyPress is a new platform and as such is evolving rapidly. What worked a few months ago, may no longer apply as better, easier to implement solutions get added to the core functionality. Therefore, if you cannot find a relatively recent thread on a topic, it is best to start a new thread just to make sure things have not changed–or to learn the proper way of doing something if they have changed
Finally, as to your question:
Where is the core? It is mentioned everywhere in this forum and I can’t find it for the life of me.
The core files are the primary BuddyPress files that are found in /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/. Whereas some of them start with “bp-core-“, in general, all of the files found in the /buddypress/ directory are considered core files.
In reply to: Navigation buttons – Where are they?catincoach-
This thread is very outdated. A lot has changed in BuddyPress since this thread last had activity 3 months ago.
If you are simply looking for where you can change the text of the menu buttons “Home”, “Blog”, “Members”, “Groups”, “Blogs”, then it is found in the header.php file of both the home and member themes.
In reply to: A little word of thanks …You really are on TV? I will love to watch video clips if you can share.
Well, no!

I was simply joking with my statement, as in “I’m not a real doctor but I play one on TV.”
You did not mention about amazon wish list. It will be nice if it can be tucked somewhere in the profile pages of developers unless that is strictly against any policy or design.
I’m not aware of any policy that forbids this. Actually, you will find that some devs do have donation links on their websites. If there is a developer in particular to whom you would like to make a donation, just visit their website and see if they have a link.
In reply to: # of registered members displaySince the number of members on your BP site is the same as the number of users of your WPMU site, you would use a WPMU function.
I have not tested this, but you should be able to do something like this:
<?php if ( bp_has_site_members() ) :
$members_of_site = get_user_count();
echo 'My awesome site has ' . $members_of_site . ' members';
else:
echo 'No members found';
endif;
?>Just change the message to whatever you want and wrap it in some CSS, and you should be good to go.
In reply to: After installing , i add some profile fields but..Haha! You are correct! This must be a bug. Otherwise, it seems useless to have a message saying you have to do something when in fact you don’t.
In reply to: Problems Installing BBPressActually RC2 works just fine
That’s good to know. I’m working on the premise of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” I’m waiting to upgrade until the public release.
In reply to: After installing , i add some profile fields but..Ironically enough, if you save your profile without all of the required fields filled in on the page, it still saves the data. Not sure if this is a bug or not, but I kind of like it like this actually
John,
I just tried editing a test user profile field in which a newly-created required field had not yet been modified by that user. I changed some data in a different field and when I clicked on “Save Changes”, I got a message stating that:
There were problems saving your information. Please fix the following:
"Allow this profile group to be seen by" cannot be left blank.In other words, since I had not entered data in this new required field, it would not let me save my changes.
In reply to: User documentation is missing@chouxpastry2002-
You have asked two different question. I’m not sure which of those you are still looking for an answer.
As Andy stated, since this is an open source project, any documentation that currently exists on how to use BuddyPress or how to develop for BuddyPress can be found in the Codex. The information is growing but incomplete. It is up to the all-volunteer community to contribute to that documentation.
As far as media uploading, this will come with time. There is, however, a wonderful 3rd-party plugin that Manoj Kumar has developed in which you might be interested.
In reply to: Alignment in profileI am glad your issue is resolved! If that is the case, please set the light to green in both this thread and this one.
By the way, this is the particular question I asked in the other thread that you did not answer. I asked:
You also are saying that you did not touch the code or CSS within those two theme directories at all.
From your post above, it appears that you did indeed touch the CSS and that is what caused the problem.
As to your last question:
I take i need to be more selective in what put in sitewide.css is it not possible to just copy base.css and edit that?
Since you are in essence making a custom theme every time you touch a single piece of code or CSS in the default themes, you should follow this approach.
Make a copy of both bphome theme and bpmember theme. Give them new, unique names. Your theme customizations should be done in these copies, not the originals. That way, if you have issues with your custom themes (and we all do when working on customization), you can switch back to the standard BP themes to see how things should work.In reply to: After installing , i add some profile fields but..Any profile fields you add after a user has registered will be blank until they go into their profile and add data to them. If you have set a profile field as “Required”, the next time a user edits their profile data, they will not be able to save their changes unless they have entered data into any required fields.

I’m using 1.0-rc-2 – sorry to be dumb but is this the same as 1.0 alpha 6?
No. They are different. RC2 is the 2nd release candidate of version 1.0. It is a newer release. But, I believe it is still recommended to use the alpha6 release at this time.
You can find it in the repository here: http://svn.automattic.com/bbpress/tags/1.0-alpha-6/
