In reply to: Password Protected Posts not appearing
I am confused by what you are asking. You have password protected a post but then you want it to show up in the site activity and on the regular blog posts listing. This is just not how this WP feature works.
You choose the “Password Protect This Post” option to make a given blog post private. This means that only people with the correct password can see the post, can read it.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
In reply to: Making Member/Group Lists Require Log-InI didn’t have a bp-custom.php file in either the plugins or mu-plugins folders so I created one from scratch.
You did the right thing. It does not exist unless you create it!
I uploaded it to the wp-content/plugins directory.
(I also tried wp-content/mu-plugins directory.)
I went to log in and see if I needed to activate it – nothing shows up on the screen period – even on the dashboard.
The file bp-custom.php needs to be placed in /plugins/. You cannot activate it. It automatically is loaded by bp-core.php as the first required file if it exists in that location.
As far as the code to put in bp-custom.php, try something like this:
<?php
function restrict_access(){
global $bp, $bp_unfiltered_uri;
if (!is_user_logged_in() &&
($bp_unfiltered_uri[0] == BP_MEMBERS_SLUG ||
$bp_unfiltered_uri[0] == BP_GROUPS_SLUG))
{
bp_core_redirect( get_option('home') . "/register" );
}
}
add_action( 'wp', 'restrict_access', 3 );
?>In reply to: Avatar image problem – other fixes don’t workThe majority of the avatar handling code can be found in bp-core-avatars.php. The cropping code is found in bp-core-cssjs.php in function bp_core_add_cropper_js().
In reply to: plugin errorsIt looks like PHP is running into a memory limit. So, you need to help PHP by boosting its memory limit.
Make a file called php.ini. Inside this new file, put this:
memory=48MBThere is more that can be added to that if you’re still having issues. But for now, let’s make it as simple as possible.
Once you’ve created that file, upload it to your wp-admin directory.
On some installs, I’ve had to boost the memory to 96MB. If 48MB does not work, try increasing.
Let me know how that goes.

You are very welcome! Thank you for the kind words and the thoughtful post. As I often say, we aim to please and sometimes we actually succeed.

Our community is only as good as its members. Based on that, I’d say that the BuddyPress community is a vibrant, healthy, and quickly-growing community.
they all appear to be very nice (that’s ok) and very handsome guys (how’s that possible? everyone looks like a hero from Hollywood)
That just makes me smile and laugh! We’re actually not developers, but we play them on TV.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Did you choose domain redirect when you were first setting up your domain with your hosting firm? Just to be sure, check your control panel, or whatever option you have, for your domain. If you cannot find the answer there, contact your host.

You have another thread here that is dealing with related issues. You never did respond to my last set of questions in that thread.
Finally, to answer your question above:
the plugins i am running are
BuddyPress
BPContents
Support
Signup TOS
Additional Privacy
All in one SEO
Simple Site maps
Upgrades
Invite
I would not have thought these would have affected user profile layout?
Yes, plugin conflicts can affect the way data is output to your browser. To debug this issue, you need to distill your environment down to the lowest common denominator. That means disabling all plugins except BuddyPress AND you need to be using the default themes that come with BP.
Do that, and report back here.
In reply to: Forum Theme Needed – Will Pay for Development!I’ve moved this thread to the Miscellaneous forum. Also, I’m closing this thread as it is not a support issue but a request for services. If you wish to offer your services to the OP, contact info. can be found above.
For future reference, requests for services or offers to provide services should be made on the BuddyPress Jobs Board.

In reply to: Default Theme Issues – HELP! 🙂Dainismichel-
Since this thread is marked as resolved, you should really start a new thread. However, I did notice one possible issue in your post:
John states that:
you will want to make a duplicate of your “Home” theme…
You then state in your post of a month ago:
Just replaced the 6 instances of get_option(‘home’) in header.php of my member blog theme
Obviously, John was talking about copying the home theme and then altering that copy. You have altered your member theme.

Great! Thank you.
I’m going to set this thread to resolved.
In reply to: BP-Dev FlickrMikem1986–
You should contact Nicola via bp-dev.org as this is an issue with a 3rd-party plugin, not a BuddyPress core component or theme.
Perhaps Nicola will also see this thread, but he would appreciate the heads up at his site as well.
Dan-
What John was referring to was having the “Blog Tracking” component enabled in BuddyPress, not allowing users to create new blogs. If you log into WPMU as site admin, then navigate to “BuddyPress > Component Setup”, you can enable or disable any of the core BuddyPress components. By default, they are all enabled.
So, in your particular case where your users cannot create new blog posts but can only comment on blog posts, if “Blog Tracking” is disabled, then users’ comments will not show up in the activity stream. The enabling or disabling of new blog creation is a WPMU not BuddyPress feature.

As I posted above, I’m beginning to wonder if more is going on with some installations as we’re seeing more of this error type. I’m not saying that it is because of your plugin though!

With WordPress installs, this “Cannot modify header” error almost always indicates extra stuff before an opening php or closing php tag. It is all too easy for someone to open up a file and accidentally enter extra “stuff” and not even realize it.
But there are of course other causes of this error. It will be interesting to see what the source of this error turns out to be.
In reply to: Activation link show me errorsWe seem to be seeing more and more of this particular type of issue. It makes me wonder. Hum…
But, let’s start with your error message. I’m going to repeat verbatim what I said in two other threads.
The “Cannot modify header” error almost always indicates that there is some extra stuff (whitespace, extra text) before the opening php or closing php tag. It could be in one or both places. There must not be anything before or after the opening and closing PHP tags–not a single space, not any extra characters, not a single carriage return.
Open up header.php in your custom theme file and look for any whitespace or extra stuff. It should be removed and the file saved.
Report back on what you found and if that helps.

In reply to: Group ImageUpload ProblemJohn is correct. If the avatar file fails to upload, you will have additional problems. The uploading could very well be caused by the issue I referenced above. Fix that, and the upload process may function properly and the other errors go away.
Of course, this is not guaranteed. Let’s just look into this possibility first and see what happens.

You’ve mention that the issue is resolved but then you have another thread here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3103
So as to provide potential help to others, would you please take a moment to share the resolution with us.

There could be a conflict with the youtube plugin you’re using. Try deactivating that and see if the problem goes away. Also, read this post for more possible help.

Since you do not have this issue when using the default BuddyPress themes, you need to contact the theme designer and let them know about this issue. They may already have a solution, or will be thankful for bringing this to their attention.
This is an issue with a custom theme, not BuddyPress.

Did you open up bp-core-avatars.php? If so, you may have inadvertently added this error to the file.
Did you install BuddyPress yourself?
Open up bp-core-avatars.php and look for the whitespace or extra stuff. It should be removed and the file saved.
Report back on what you found and if that helps.

That’s an excellent question! My relationship mapping plugin will not provide any level of access control. However, that will be provided by the privacy component that jjj and I are working on.
So, you could say let only fans see this aspect of my online identity, or let only colleagues read my full profile, or do not let acquaintances have access to my friends list. You get the point.

It seems that you are wanting to change the slug “blog” to something else. Read this article and see if this is what you’re after:

In reply to: Installation of WPMU and BuddyPress on Local machine21green-
This is truly beyond the scope of the BuddyPress forums. But, since I had some issues when I attemtpted to install WPMU on MAMP several months ago, I feel your pain.
I wrote an article (months ago) for installation of WPMU on MAMP (not MAMP Pro). But, I’m not yet finished with updating my new website, so it is not yet posted.
Here is the crux of the article. I’ve never tried this with XAMPP, so use at your own risk:
- Make sure you have the most recent, stable version of WPMU and that it is copied into MAMP where you want it to be.
- Read the readme.txt file that comes with WPMU
- Do not manually edit either of these two files:
- wp-config-sample.php file
- htaccess.dist file
Unlike single version WordPress, the WPMU installer will take care of creating the proper files using these two as templates. If you need to make changes to either of these files, do so after the installation has succeeded.
- WPMU wants to run on Apache port 80. Since OS X comes with a copy of Apache set to run on port 80, you will have issues if OS X is automatically configured to start its own copy of Apache on boot. If so, you’ll have to change that. Check to make sure that the Web Sharing checkbox is unchecked in System Preferences > Sharing
- Now fire up your browser and go to localhost:80/index.php and follow the prompts. The path will be different if you’ve installed WPMU in a subdirectory. If so, just add the subdirectory to the url.
- In the field for Server Address, you will see the recommendation to use localhost.localdomain instead of localhost. That did not work for me. Instead, I found that I had to use the internal IP address of my computer (a.k.a the local IP address which is always 127.0.0.1 ). I tried the localhost.localdomain address several different times with no success. If you have already tried this, make sure that you delete the wp-config.php file and start all over.
- If you’ve done this properly, you should now be seeing a friendly “Installation Finished!” screen. Follow the instructions. Write down your password.
- Now, manually enter the address for the admin login screen into your browser’s address bar. If you just hit log in, you may have issues. So, if you are using 127.0.0.1 as the Server Address, you would enter in the browser 127.0.0.1/wp-login.php. The path will be different if you’ve installed WPMU in a subdirectory.
Good luck!. Let me know if this works for you.
