In reply to: Images on Latest Posts vs. Blogs
Are you manually entering that relative URL? You may want to consider using the WP Media manager and uploader as I believe it defaults to inserting fully qualified paths (domain name and all). This would prevent the issue you’re seeing.
In reply to: Group members not showing upWhen you say populated, do you mean invited or have you logged in as those users and joined the groups (or accepted the invitations)?
In reply to: Problem next_posts_link() in P2 integration attemptThe first thing I’d do to start debugging is to find out what the value of $base and $request are where it gets assigned to $result. If you see blogname in both, that’s your problem.
$base = trailingslashit( get_bloginfo( 'url' ) );The above line should dump whatever you have set in you WP General Settings as the Blog URL. If that includes blogname, then the code creating the $request is doing something funky.
In reply to: 1.2.3 Upgrade Broke SiteSee this post for a list of plugins that potentially will lead to a failure over an update:

Sure. So you can do two things:
- Use CSS to style the members widget to look like the recent active widget (just copy/update the existing CSS)
- Clone the recent active widget into your child theme’s functions.php file and change the call it make to be like the members widget
Changing the CSS is probably the easiest, just set anything you don’t want displayed to
display:noneand it will disappear.Cloning is the cleanest and can be easily shared back to the community for other people trying to do the same thing.
Do you want the “Recently Active Members Widget” instead? It has the layout you’re looking for.
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and Discussion+1 for getting basic functionality locked down and released.
(insert sob story about delaying/re-designing current project for this plugin)
@Modemlooper Shucks, that’s too easy.
Missing a ) after BP_FORUMS_SLUG
In reply to: Images has disappear from my site on IE and ChromeSounds like a cache issue. Either your local browser cache or the server has cached the files.
@Bpisimone If I’m understanding your question correctly, you should be able to make one big logical check:
<?php if (bp_is_page( BP_GROUPS_SLUG ) || bp_is_page( BP_MEMBERS_SLUG ) || bp_is_page( BP_ACTIVITY_SLUG ) || bp_is_group() || bp_is_member() ) : ?> class="selected" <?php endif; ?>In reply to: Wanting to add toThe template file you’re looking for is bp-default/members/single/member-header.php
There are a couple hooks in there that you could use:
bp_before_member_header
bp_before_member_header_meta
bp_profile_header_meta
bp_after_member_header
You’ll have to take a look yourself and determine which works best for your application.
First, make a backup of your existing theme and I’m guessing here but…
You might be able to just take your existing WP theme and make it a child theme of bp-default. This should cause WP to go looking in the bp-default theme directory for anything not defined in your main WP theme directory.
Some stuff will break. Fixing it might be difficult. I haven’t tried this so good luck and make a backup first.
Oh, and let us know how it goes.
In reply to: Promote/Bury activity update?Doh. White screen o’ death when I activate that plugin with 1.2.3 on WP single 2.9.2.
In reply to: Promote/Bury activity update?Ah-ha! https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-rate-forum-posts/
Not quite what I’m looking for but close.
In reply to: Promote/Bury activity update?Hmm, the bp-like one doesn’t seem to ring a bell. I’ll have to track down the forums one.
Thanks!
In reply to: Fixed width for default theme & admin bar? It’s funny you ask because I’ve been debating this in my head today.
Right now I moved to a static 980px width. This still gives some whitespace on the default theme when viewed on a 1024×768 display. I opted for a fixed width because the flexible width of the main content area wasn’t working for my design plans.
Maybe it’s also just a personal preference, but even on my 1600×1200 main display, I still only allow my browser window to be 1024 width max.
There is a maximum width for any content area before the human brain can’t handle it. There’s a reason newspapers are in columns.
It’s also interesting to read about the “golden ratio” and how it can be applied to web design.
In reply to: Fixed width for default theme & admin bar?Sounds like you found your solution.
Just as a note, if a user has a 1024×768 resolution screen, their web browser viewable area will not be that width when maximized. The actual width will be somewhere around 1000px (or less) because of the scroll bar and anything else the browser adds in.
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionI feel like a Junkie. I can’t wait for the next release to get my “fix” on Monday.
In reply to: Rebuild/regenerate activity items?Eeek. For some reason I don’t like the idea of purging.
Thanks for the info on the plugin though. That should work if I ever do get into a situation where I need to rebuild the activity stream for blog posts.
In reply to: bp_blogs_record_activity* and the blog $post->ID?Thanks again r-a-y. bp_blogs_activity_new_post_content is what I’m looking for. That filter passes in the $post like I’m looking for.
In reply to: Users posts to activity streamI think you might be confusing regular blog posts with user status updates. Like any WP site, your users don’t need to be authors unless you want them to publish blog posts.
BP just adds the “social” side of things. The stuff like activity updates, etc. When your users create “updates”, this is like the Facebook status updates.
If you go to the BP Test/Demo site at http://testbp.org, you will see the site activity stream. This is where all of the status updates show up for everyone on the site. Each user can go to their own page and see just the status updates for them and their friends, etc.
If you go to http://testbp.org/news, you will see the regular blog side of things. Andy has one blog post there – the default WP blog post.
If this doesn’t help, maybe you can point us to your site and explain to us what is wrong with how it’s working.
In reply to: Users posts to activity stream@jcoonrod When you say “home page”, do you mean the activity stream or blog posts? If you’re using the bp-default theme then you can select either as your root page (the one you would see at http://example.com as opposed to http://example.com/activity or http://example.com/blog).
If it’s a problem with new users who are posting blog posts that are not showing up, you probably need to publish their posts. You mention that you set them as “authors”. I’m not sure the author role in WP allows publishing, I think only an editor or admin can publish.
In reply to: the_post_thumbnail & the activity streamThanks r-a-y. I’m not sure that’s quite the filter I’m looking for. It seems to create a thumbnail from one of the images in the content.
I realize now that I just want to modify the activity stream excerpt that is displayed to insert the WP 2.9 the_post_thumbnail() call. Since the post thumbnail is not always guaranteed to be within the blog post content itself.
In reply to: Disable custom headerTry clearing your browser cache. You might still be looking at a cached version of your site.
If you’re using a child theme, you can put the line DJPaul mentioned in your theme’s functions.php file.
