In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and Discussion
First, fantastic plugin. I was planning to push my new site online this weekend but after seeing this plugin, I’m going to wait a little longer!
I have one burning question though – Is there any way to grab the last X photos posted to the public activity stream? I want to put this on a “non Buddypress” landing page on my site as a quick photo stream to “entice” viewers to click into the activity stream, etc. I’m sure there’s a way, I’m just not seeing it.
Thanks! I’m patiently waiting for Monday now!
In reply to: Profile Sidebars – UrgentWhat happens when you try to add a non BPDEV plugin?
If it’s BPDEV plugin specific, you should probably contact them directly and ask for help.
Raise a ticket. This is a usability/privacy issue. It should be blatantly obvious to the user who is replying to a private message that they are sending to more than the sender.
In reply to: BuddyPress Links 0.2.1 releasedWOW! Very nice work MrMaz.
In reply to: BuddyPress screencasts – what do you want to see?The more I think about it, nig3d has the right idea. A screencast (or a couple) that showcases what BP is capable of would be a really great idea. But then you’re focusing on the developers as opposed to the potential users of a BP site.
One of my favorite examples of BP is thepioneerwoman.com/tasty-kitchen/ and if you didn’t explicitly know it was running BP, you’d be hard pressed to discover it was. That user community has very easily figured out how to use BP (but again, it’s customized). Profiling some of these sites as “what you can do with BP” in a screencast would probably help “sell” BP to a larger audience.
@Bowe, as for the Facebook/Twitter stuff, both apps are almost better for not having screencasts. People have found numerous ways of using Twitter that are not the original intent. As for Facebook, they just don’t really care about anything outside their firewalls.
From a user point of view, I found BP prior to the 1.2 activity stream concept to be very confusing. Anyone who has used Facebook or Twitter will easily understand what the textbox is for.
I could go on and on but then I’d be really thread jacking.
In reply to: BuddyPress screencasts – what do you want to see?Given that the entire “look and feel” of Buddypress can be modified via themes, how can “we” offer screencasts on how to use a Buddypress site? I’ve seen many examples of “Buddypress” sites that look and operate nothing like a bp-default themed Buddypress site.
At the same time, if the current interface is not intuitive enough then no matter how many screencasts are created users will still be confused. Facebook and Twitter didn’t have screen casts on how to use the sites. Users just figured most of it out.
I’m not trying to knock Buddypress at all – I’ve been impressed enough that I’ve gone and started submitting bug reports and even fixes when my time permits! I’m just hoping that active members like DJ Paul aren’t going to get stuck spending a lot of time creating screencasts that benefit a very small number of developers/users.
There are probably really great Buddypress specific topics that could be covered in a screen cast but I can’t come up with any. Maybe I’m just too old and come from the generation where everything wasn’t screencasted to us and we had to do something called research or trial and error.
In reply to: Widget logic 1.2Did you try widget logic? https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/widget-logic/
Crafting the correct logic might be the tricky part but the plugin is fantastic for controlling when to display (or not display) any widget.
In reply to: 1.2 Pending Friendship RequestsIs there anyway to find all of your outgoing requests?
I can’t find anything other than searching through the members page for the “Friendship Requested” button. Is there any value to adding a filter on the Members page?
In reply to: profile sidebar – GOD HELP MEWould the widget logic plugin work for you?
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/widget-logic/
I’m not really following what you’re trying to do but I know the widget logic plugin is fantastic for controlling when widgets get displayed.
In reply to: White Screen O' DeathYou may want to try one of the ideas mentioned on this site if you’re having PHP errors.

In reply to: Rearrange the order of SubNav itemsbp_core_sort_subnav_items() is added as an action to wp_head so you could create your own version in your theme’s functions.php file. You would then have to remove the existing action something like this:
remove_action('wp_head', 'bp_core_sort_subnav_items', 1);
add_action('wp_head', 'my_custom_sort_subnav_items', 1);In my_custom_sort_subnav_items() you could do whatever you wanted. Right now I think everything is sorted by the key name (the call to ksort).
I guess the question is, how do you want them ordered? You might have to hardcode the order if it’s not something easily sorted. Or figure out how to modify the key names.
In reply to: Activity Time Stamp Saying [Use GMT Timezone] agoIf you check the roadmap you can see that 1.2 is unfortunately running a little behind schedule. Given some of the changes that are happening, I think a lot of us are more than willing to wait.
As for your issue, you could go and manually change the string in bp_core_time_since() to display something more appropriate than the GMT string. This would at least temporarily address the cosmetic issue until 1.2 is available.
As for the activity stream stuff, that’s rather curious. To me it suggests that there is some sort of problem sorting the activities based on their dates. When you look at the blog entries directly (not in the activity stream), do they have valid dates?
@jeffreeeeey: Sorry that you took offense that you didn’t get instantaneous help about a PHP coding issue from a BP community supported forum.
Hi, please don’t take this the wrong way but…
There are an endless number of sites online dedicated to learning PHP. What you’re having trouble with is relatively basic PHP. Once you have an understanding of PHP then making the changes you desire will be much easier for you.
In reply to: Activity Time Stamp Saying [Use GMT Timezone] agoLike I said, there’s a solution in 1.2.
In reply to: Activity Time Stamp Saying [Use GMT Timezone] agoDJ Paul mentioned in Member Widget timezone issue that he has the problem when using bp_core_time_since().
Prior to changeset 2128 (November 25) this function would return the exact string “[Use GMT Timezone]” if the since time was less than 0. That is, the difference between the current time and the previous time was 0 or even negative!
In chageset 2128 (November 25) on the trunk, this string has been replaced by “sometime” which will be a little more graceful. Unfortunately that means it’s not going to be fixed until 1.2 is released.
As for why this is happening, it looks like bp_core_time_since() is getting called like this a lot:
bp_core_time_since( time() );Which results in the code doing a calculation of:
time() - time()which is almost guaranteed to be equal to 0.
In reply to: SingleWP: No Buddypress options in backend #1561Just updated to the latest:
Updated to revision 305.
Updated to revision 2388.
Updated to revision 2284.Still no Buddypress menu option for the admin user of the site (I can provide a screen shot if you’d like). The only active plugin is Buddypress. If I implement my suggestion above in bp-core/bp-core-wpabstraction.php then it shows up fine.
In reply to: SingleWP: No Buddypress options in backend #1561Holy, I really didn’t read the codex entry for is_admin correctly!

How about:
if ( !function_exists( 'is_site_admin' ) ) {
function is_site_admin() {
return current_user_can('level_10');
}
}In reply to: How to make all links DO FollowWhat type of link specifically is showing up as rel=”nofollow” for you?
Yes, I opened the ticket because the current model doesn’t quite make sense to me. I do understand the current reasoning but I can also see a need for “public” sites that won’t get picked up by search engines.
Oh, wait a sec. I just re-read your comment – why does the “blog privacy” option turn off BP activity stream for that blog? I can sort of understand from the general sense but based on the description of what “blog privacy” does (in the WP dashboard) it doesn’t make sense.
Having the activity stream updates tied to blog privacy prevents having a semi-private community with blogs. Or is Buddypress doing a ping of something like pingomatic every time a status changes or a forum post is created?
No problem. I guess I figured with feature freeze on the 30th, this might have been intended.
In reply to: Remove Blog from Search BarThanks for the info Brajesh. Your solution makes sense to me now.
In reply to: Remove Blog from Search BarWhat about Brajesh’s solution doesn’t work for you? I just implemented virtually the same thing (without the filtering of the search action urls) and the drop down box only contains Members/Groups/Forums now.
Brajesh: what does the search action url filter do? I’m not following the intent.
Thanks!
In reply to: BuddyPress Links 0.2-RC1 now availableHey, I know it’s in the instructions but is there anyway to programmatically detect that the “links” directory hasn’t been moved/updated. By default it should be put in bp-sn-parent (or bp-default in 1.2+) so any child theme can make use of it. Even if you don’t automagically move/update the “links” directory, make one of those nifty info bubbles appear at the top of the plugins page telling the user to move/update the directory.
I’m a big-time “Add new” plugin sort of person and seldom manually install anything if I can help it.

Fantastic plugin and fantastic rationalization too. Made me double think media sharing in my current side project. I’m looking forward to your updates for the new 1.2 bp-default theme.
