In reply to: Does akismet work with buddypress?
Akismet does work for WPMU, bbPress, etc… Akismet does not however work site-wide, only on a blog by blog basis, exactly like you’ve mentioned, even if your site isn’t making money.
Akismet is not a WPMU site-wide plugin, and to use it site wide currently requires the enterprise version.
What OS are you running locally, and what browser? I’ve installed the trunk versions of both WPMU and BuddyPress on two local installs so far, and haven’t experienced these issues.
When you say that directories.css wasn’t being loaded, was it 404’ing or was it just not mentioned at all?
I’m not on my laptop at the moment so I can’t see where directories.css is included normally.
When you updated, did you DELETE your old files and upload your new ones? Delete browser cache, site cookies, etc…
In reply to: Group invite as in XING?I don’t exactly understand your idea here.
You are free to start any group you want. Then you can ask your friends to join that group if you’d like.
Are you saying that Xing can ask non-registered email addresses to register, and when they do they are automatically added to the group you create?
Say you create a group called “We love mustard” and I have friends outside of BuddyPress that also love Mustard, that I could request their presence in the group via an email address, and when they register they are auto-joined in the “We love mustard” group?
I think I need you to slow down and explain to me exactly what’s going on.
Can you post a link to the page in question so I can take a look?
In reply to: My theme …Not necessary to open a second topic.
You can add your link to this post if you’d like.

We appreciate your contributions, but you’re going against the grain here.
In reply to: Edited evrything …Thanks for stopping by.
In reply to: Edited evrything …Thankfully for us both, this isn’t a debate.

For various reasons related to our WordPress trademark, we ask if you’re going to start a site about WordPress or related to it that you not use “WordPress” in the domain name. Try using “wp” instead, or another variation. We’re not lawyers, but very good ones tell us we have to do this to preserve our trademark. Also many users have told us they find it confusing.
If you already have a domain with “WordPress” in it, redirecting it to the “wp” equivalent is fine, just as long as the main one users see and you promote doesn’t contain “WordPress.”
“WordPress” in sub-domains is fine, like wordpress.example.com, we’re just concerned about top-level domains.
We’ve told this to anyone who has ever asked us, we just wanted to make it public so more people could be aware of this policy.
I applaud your efforts, and hope your intention is at least to make the theme available publically.
I’m keeping this topic open for now, but it’s on my watch list because it’s already breaking some rules. If it gets too rowdy in here I’m locking it up.
In reply to: Page not found with searchAre you trying to make a site wide search? To search ALL blogs for keywords? Or is this with the built in search bar in the upper left of the page?
In reply to: Edited evrything …May want to read this…
Same goes with WordPress as well.
In response, good job modifying the theme colors. In my opinion the forums could still use some work (margins on the sides need 20px), and the missing BuddyBar at the top urks me.
In reply to: Author Revisor Bug?Michael, this has been a “bug” since the beginning of BP, and if I had to guess, it existed previously because the activity streams were spread through-out multiple tables. Now that they are one table, this will be easier to monitor.
If you can find your original bug in the trac, do like Lance said and post a link.
If you ask me, revising an article should/could almost have its own action in the activity feed; “John revised post ‘Spicy Mustard is Yummy’ 10 minutes ago” kinda thing…
In reply to: r1324 with 2.7.1 wp-admin HTTP 500It’s good info for other BP users though, so we’ll keep this here and open just in case.
In reply to: Groups, and adding usersHaha yeah I should have gone back and deleted this topic, as I answered my own question a while ago, haha!

Seobrien, if you’d like, you can suggest an enhancement at trac.buddypress.org. Use the same login that you use at this website.
In reply to: Buddypress Total-Black-Out 🙁Also, and this may be a repeat suggestion, but when upgrading, you’re going to want to BACKUP and DELETE the old files, all of them EXCEPT your wp-config.php file. That file you do NOT delete and keep where it belongs.
1. Upload WPMU, visit wp-admin, and make sure it’s running the way it should be.
2. Upload BuddyPress per the install instructions, visit wp-admin, make sure it’s running the way it should be.
3. Reinstall plugins and custom themes.
The reason for the delete is because of all the file locations and names that have changed around since RC1. If you have copies of old files lying around, say in mu-plugins, etc… That will gum things up too.
In reply to: r1324 with 2.7.1 wp-admin HTTP 500Good info.
Post this in the WordPress MU Trac.
In reply to: PHP-ErrorJust delete
<li<?php if ( bp_is_page( BP_HOME_BLOG_SLUG ) ) {?> class="selected"<?php } ?>><a href="<?php echo get_option('home') ?>/<?php echo BP_HOME_BLOG_SLUG ?>" title="<?php _e( 'Blog', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php _e( 'Blog', 'buddypress' ) ?></a></li>In reply to: Buddypress Total-Black-Out 🙁Sounds to me like a PHP error or a memory error.
make a file called php.ini, put it in your wp-admin directory, and inside that file it put…
memory=40MB
upload_max_filesize=10M;
post_max_size=20M;This will take care of any memory issues your host may be having…
In the .htaccess file at your root directory of your WordPressMU install, put this somewhere near the top…
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .phpThis will take care of PHP issues and make sure your host is giving you PHP5.
Try these out and report back.
So is this the official announcement of the unofficial plugin, or the unofficial announcement of the unofficial plugin?
I’d hate to get the two confused.

Either way it’s awesome for you to keep up with that. I’m sure Andy will appreciate it. I will probably be using it too shortly for a few projects as well, so while I’m not grateful yet, you can count on it eventually.

Good work!
In reply to: Redirect to root after LoginThis has been this way for some time now.
This topic should give you more info on this…

If you login through the quick-login box in the header, you should always get redirected to whatever page you were on. If you click “Login” in the buddybar, it would need to save the referring page on the wp-login.php page load, which is more of a WPMU issue than a BuddyPress issue it sounds like.
In reply to: Version of bbPress required to integrate with WPMU?Hi Jen,
Depending who you ask, everyone will give you a different response.
It is my experience that using bbPress 1.0 Alpha 6 will yield the most positive results.
Remember however that bbPress also is not 1.0 yet, and that you are still going to need to babysit it and upgrade it and help it play nicely with any application you choose to integrate it with.
Because of the efforts of some bbPress users, they’ve created plugins and hacks to help more tightly integrate the 0.9 branch cookies with WPMU, but in my personal opinion you’re still taking a step backwards by using an older version than what’s available. Using the 1.0 branch will help better prepare you for what is currently happening versus what has already been, if that makes sense?
In reply to: Admin Bar Logo TransparencyI for one would do this in Illustrator instead. I would type out whatever you\’re spelling, make outlines out of the letters, scale down as necessary, and save for web with whatever matte you need.
In reply to: BuddyPress in /plugins/ not /mu-plugins/ from r1303+Just a note for everyone to consider, is that there are two separate applications going on here, and not every trunk/branch of one is going to take into consideration every trunk/branch of the other. This may go without saying for many, but I think it’s fair to remind everyone again…
While the goal is for everything to stay as stable as possible, it’s still a cat and mouse game until WPMU 2.7.1 comes out, and BuddyPress 1.0 comes out. Anything before that, is going to give you headaches and cause problems if you’re trying to stay on the bleeding edge of what’s going on.
When new trunks/betas/rc’s come out, if you have a stable, working environment that works well enough as it is, my personal suggestion (unless you have the time, patience, and understanding userbase) is to leave well enough alone on live sites, and use the trunks and betas on a separate install ONLY for you to become comfortable with the changes as they happen.
You wouldn’t install the next beta version of Windows on your work computer right? Not if your livelihood is at stake!
Long story short, don’t count on any of these things actually working 100% of the time. Read, re-read, and thrice-read the upgrade instructions as they don’t become 100% clear until you’ve already messed them up.
Good suggestions, and I think for the time being we’re all waiting for the 1.0 release before we start documenting code. Until then, any of it is subject to change at any point.
Once 1.0 is out there is a benchmark to start documenting from, in my opinion.
I can give you a hint though, check out the /css directories in each plugin, check out the member-theme, the buddypress-home theme, and you can also create a file called “site-wide.css” and put it in your /css directory for your home theme, and put all of your site-wide CSS changes in there.
Best way to do this would be to copy the bits of the member-theme that make the userbar and optionbar, and then add them to a new theme that you create.
This is possible to do with just some hybridizing of the two themes and mating the pieces of them that you want together.
In reply to: Confused: Forum Topic Gone etcJohan, you were getting trapped by the Akismet spam filter.
I unspammed your posts, so you should be okay going foward.
In reply to: How to make “about me” kinda profile field?A thought on this one (as it stands today…)
There is a limit to the length of the trimmed text between commas for what is a link and what is not, so it is possible that what you’re seeing is an about me section that people have written longer sentences in versus a textarea with “favorite movies” that have lots of commas for separation…
View my profile for example. The same text area has a few links, and then the last entry doesn’t get linked.
