    This is where the member theme gets tricky and throws a curve ball…

    Check out /mu-plugins/bp-groups/directories/bp-groups-directory-groups.php

    Those files technically aren’t part of the member theme, because they’re not really displaying any specific member or group info; they’re part of the BuddyPress Groups Directory page, and they are meant to be styled site wide using the home themes header and footer files, not the member themes.

    Tricky eh? ;)

    You have javascript errors that are causing the other scripts to stop.

    jQuery("div#members-list-options a").livequery is not a function - line 3 of:
    http://phoenix.fanster.com/wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-core/js/widget-members.js?ver=2.7

    shutterReloaded is not defined - line 1 of:
    http://phoenix.fanster.com/wp-content/themes/azsh_mag/js/jquery-1.2.6.js

    Fix those and see if your ajax returns.

    Yep that’s exactly correct. In theory, to create a post from within the Group forum, you should not need cookie integration, because the XMLRPC request happens very ajax-like behind the scenes and does not require for you as a specific user to be logged into both platforms.

    However, to click over to the forums and post inside of them, you will want to have cookie integration for the transparent optimal user experience that most of us are striving for.

    @bmg1227, looks good. Anyone familiar with your previous work is probably expecting pretty fabulous things for BuddyPress from you in the future. :)

    A quick note of thanks to everyone for sharing your sites with everyone else. :D

    If this is in regards to making a new blog post, than unfortunately that falls more into being a WordPress MU support question than one we can accurately diagnose here.

    However, I can tell you from experience that I’ve never experienced any issues saving even extremely huge content and HTML element heavy blog posts.

    (I’m going to change this to “not a support question” since it’s a little out of our scope, so that no one else sees this as a BP issue.)

    Looks like you’re going to need to use sub directories instead of subdomains. Don’t worry, as they work identically, but instead of blog.yourdomain.com, you’ll have yourdomain.com/blog

    (This is also more of a WordPress MU support question, but because others may benefit from this too, lets discuss…) :)

    Stop me if you’ve heard this, but it should be a semi-easy fix.

    in wp-config.php, change…

    define('VHOST', 'yes');

    to

    define('VHOST', 'no');

    and make sure…

    $base = '/';

    Then, you’ll want to dive into either phpMyAdmin, or each of your blogs admin panels and edit them individually, just making sure that the paths to each of the blogs are correct.

    I am closing this topic, as it has been addressed also in “RC-1 – admin-bar-menu acting weird?.”

    No worries on English, and I’ll do my best to help with as much simple English as possible.

    To customize the thumbnails sizes, I would tell you to use Firefox, and install FireBug. It will allow you to browse through the CSS of any web page visually, to give you an idea of what CSS rules you can change to get you what you want.

    My brief experience with the Facebook Connect plugin for WordPress was that the necessary edits took away from the pluggable nature of WordPress plugins, and the file includes made the site feel pretty sluggish.

    Fix those issues and it could be a super popular plugin.

    Now correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t this allow Facebook users that have not registered through your website to still login to your site as if they were verified users? I think when they do that, they are assigned a pseudo-name in the wp_users table, which then only allows them to sign in using FBConnect and nothing else, correct?

    Call me a disbeliever, but while I can see the value in this, I also see how once it’s installed and relied upon, that you’re very much stuck with that method for those individuals.

    What do you do when 4 years from now, no one uses Facebook anymore? (Friendster anyone?) If your site takes off, and those users have previously only used their Facebook id to login to your site, now they need to create a new duplicate profile without it.

    Maybe I’m being selfish here, but I like my users to register with me, and keep their files and data within my sites.

    Using that function would break your specific setup (which is nicely integrated now by the way.)

    It basically looks to see if where the user currently is, is within the HOME_BLOG_SLUG area. If so, it then checks to see if they’re looking at a index/category/archive setup, or if they’re viewing a single post.

    Since you have your main blog divided from the community how you do, and have some special routing of where things are and how to get there, I think you should be okay without this function.

    One thing I noticed however, is that your test blog uses a subdomain, where as the main blog uses a sub directory. This may be the next hurdle in your install to figure out, because I’ve yet to see a situation that handled both smoothly.

    Looks to me like the file bp-friends-classes.php asks for $filtered_fids in the SQL query inside the search_friends function, but it isn’t a global variable and isn’t declared in the function…

    $total_friends = $wpdb->get_var( $wpdb->prepare( "SELECT count(id) FROM {$bp->friends->table_name} WHERE (friend_user_id IN ($filtered_fids) AND initiator_user_id = %d) OR (initiator_user_id IN ($filtered_fids) AND friend_user_id = %d)", $user_id, $user_id ) );

    It is however used in the search_users function on apx line 221.

    $filtered_fids = $wpdb->get_col($sql);

    I might be missing something, but if this isn’t in the trac it might be a bug…

    Do you know what version of PHP your website is hosted on? And what version of MySQL your database uses? Approximate versions are fine, 4.x, 5.x, etc… If you are unsure, the name of your host might be enough also. I’ve tried to duplicate the bug searching for quotes and weird characters on my test site but couldn’t break it myself…

    Curious also what is the username of the friend you’re sending the message to? Does it happen with all user names you try to compose a message to?

    If anyone is looking for a little bit of a sleeker Buddy Bar design, I got rid of the borders, rounded some corners, measured all the paddings and margins exactly, and changed the fonts in mine over at delsolownersclub.com. Go ahead and view the page source and steal the code from my admin-bar.css if you’d like. :)

    Well I’ll be… I think tiny url’s are fine, and probably for the best really…

    You know, to Andy’s credit, it’s really kind of fun to find little bits of creative genius in BuddyPress… Stuff like this, and the Groups Template idea, and just little prethoughts of the future, they’re just really cool…

    No sweat. I ask because lets say I make a “Signature” field, it’s a textarea, and it’s going to be used for their forum signature.

    If their signature is "<a href="bob" style='color: red;'>Bob</a>, is amazing!" is BuddyPress going to parse the crap out of it, and is this going to understand that?

    Ah I love it when a plan comes together. Woop woop!

    @johnjamesjacoby

    I’d love to actually just have several themes with different .css files and that’s it. Selecting a different theme would keep the same structure, but allow for different styling.

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Well, provided you don’t need any custom stuff in your .htaccess file…

    1. Delete existing .htaccess

    2. Rename .htaccess.dist to .htaccess

    3. Test

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Keymaster

    You should use the .htaccess.dist file that comes with BuddyPress if BuddyPress does not create or cannot edit the existing one that’s there.

    What you have above will not be enough for all of BuddyPress/WPMU to function correctly.

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase BASE/

    #uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^(.*/)?files/$ index.php [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !.*wp-content/plugins.*
    RewriteRule ^(.*/)?files/(.*) wp-content/blogs.php?file=$2 [L]

    # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^.*/wp-admin$
    RewriteRule ^(.+)$ $1/ [R=301,L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule . - [L]
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-.*) $2 [L]
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*.php)$ $2 [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

    <IfModule mod_security.c>
    <Files async-upload.php>
    SecFilterEngine Off
    SecFilterScanPOST Off
    </Files>
    </IfModule>

    It has additional lines for handling multiple upload directories, blogs, etc…

    I think this is actually an AWESOME idea, and one I’ve been poking around at in my head for a while.

    Not sure there is a super easy way to incorporate this, but I’d love to see it done!

    Check out /bp-core/css/directory-members.css – Line 78ish

    Each search box also has its own ID if you’d like to style them independently: #members_search, #groups_search, and #blogs_search. You could style those anywhere in base.css if you’d like and the style should be changed accordingly.

    This idea is growing on me. Dammit… :)
