Hmm..while the external posts plugin gets implemented, can anyone recommend a way of displaying an rss feed in user or group profiles? Thanks.

Im probably missing something obvious, but how does the site admin set the categories for groups after the plugin has been activated successfully?

    I found this forum post – https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1622#post-8282

Does this method work to pull profile data to user blogs also?

Awesome! I am also eagerly waiting for your points plugin. I think that could really jumpstart participation in some communities if implemented properly.

    DJPaul, I’ll keep testing.

One feature that I think might be useful especially for groups is if we can auto invite instead of auto adding.

I have a group for introductions on my site and I used to have new members auto add to that group. However, I realized that since the process was seamless, most new members didn’t even notice that they were part of their group and so never used it. So, I turned that off and now invite each new member to the introductions group and many more actually end of accepting and actually posting in it.

This will also let users have the option to decline if they wanted to.

I would like to know this too.

    DJPaul,

The update seems to remove the errors. Thanks!

    DJPaul,

Thanks for the quick action. Should I just autoupdate the plugin using the dashboard or do you recommend deleting and reinstalling the plugin?

Hmm, dosent look like there has been any updates in the past couple of weeks on the plugin site either..

    Hey DJPaul,

I have the same issue and I was able to isolate it to the Welcome Pack plugin (the errors disappear if I deactivate it). Mine is not a fresh install and I don’t think the errors were present more than a week ago. Since then I moved from BP1.0 to 1.0.2 so it might have something to do with that.

Not that it has to be the fault of the plugin. My theme is mostly default but I have made some minor modifications from tips across this forum.

I will try to trace back to see if I can figure out if one of the modifications is causing a conflict and let you know. I really hope someone figures out a solution as I find the Welcome Pack really useful and do not wish to deactivate it.

ray, I have been keeping track of which core & theme files I modify.

I went through the various changesets like Jeff described above to see whether any of those files were changed and just made those changes on my old versions of those files and copied over the rest from the new versions.

Overall I had to edit less than 10 lines over 4-5 of my modified files to update my themes to BP1.0.2

    Thanks for the tip ray,

Do any special steps have to be taken with WP-Cache to use it with Buddypress so that we can make sure it dosent conflict with any component? Any known issues with the common buddypress plugins?

Oh, and I am running BP 1.0.2 with WPMU 2.7.1 and tested with Chrome.

    Thanks Jeff,

    Jeff,

Thanks for the advice. Looking at https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/trunk/bp-themes?rev=1468, I see a few changes in both the member as well as the home theme to make them compatible with Firefox 3.5. The other changes are 2 months old (which would make them older than BP1.0 that I was running before I updated)

Sorry to trouble you, but can you confirm that this is all that has changed in 1.0.2. I believe that even in the listed changes on the blog post, this is the only change that could correspond to the default themes. Ive tried to dig further, but I am not very familiar with the trac system.

Thanks for making the code more accessible. One bug in it is that if a user logs in after being shown the message at the register page, it shows them the message again (because the page loads). Is there a way to hide the message if the user viewing the register page is logged in?

I just updated using the above steps and there aren’t any immediate errors so I am happy about that. I will do some more testing to make sure everything is working fine.

Another question: Are there any upgrades to the default member & home themes from 1.0 to 1.0.2? I have (slightly) modified versions of both and I was wondering whether I need to overwrite my themes from the 1.0.2 versions as well.

The above code link to the posts in the bbpress forums. Is there a way to modify it to take you into the group view instead?

I want to restrict access to the forums directly and only want people to use it through the groups.

Some really nice websites on this list. Would be awesome if everyone wrote the plugins you were using too.

Thanks ray. Ill try that out. Any idea if its compatible with WPMU?

I think displaying group topics in various forms should be part of the core BP widgets as it really helps pull the community into discussions. Ill check if in the trac already or else submit it.

That makes things clearer. So this is what I plan to do.

Backup the whole WPMU install directory(or is wp-contents enough?)

    Backup the database

Deactivate all BP related plugins in the plugins folder

Move out BP related plugins from the mu-plugins folder

    Deactivate BP

Click the upgrade thingy for BP

    Activate BP

Move/Activate the rest of the plugins

I’ll be doing this over the weekend. Hopefully all goes well as I am running it on a live site.

    Thanks for your help guys.

Another newbie question..does deactivating plugins reset their settings? (I am guessing not)

    @kunal17

Is there a similar reference that can pull up # of blog posts (or # of blogs if thats not possible) as well as # of discussions (forum topics)?

    Thanks again for your help.

The code works perfectly. However, I want to use it in a widget (so that it shows up in the middle of my widget filled right column bar not the top or bottom. Any thoughts on how to go about doing that?
