In reply to: BP Sections?
@PiManIII There have been many many hints since BP all began but no takers yet … at least no public release to date
In reply to: BP Sections?*** I would like people that are in a section to be able to “sign up” for particular groups, thus each group must be visible to users under each section. Would this require multiple installations? ***
Yes. Unfortunately, there’s no BP Multisite at this time.@testador thanks for elaborating on what you’ve done so far.
– Check out the Ride Oregon site in BP.org showcase – https://buddypress.org/showcase/
– I recall seeing a travel or tourism site here before – http://www.bpinspire.com/Re themes, I prefer to create my own themes – either child themes of bp-default theme or use BP Template Pack for a couple. It depends on a lot of factors. Here’s a simple walkthrough for BP Template Pack for reference – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/
Re media plugin, I’ve been using the BP Gallery plugin, (premium) since early 2010 to date. Preference is hosting own media rather than having it hosted at Kaltura/Cincopa servers.
Good luck
In reply to: Is moving Buddypress easier/possible??@ddgdaily – on the Thesis theme, sorry, I don’t use it. I recall some Thesis users a while ago who mentioned getting info from Thesis support forums to get BP compatibility on using the BP Template Pack.
Why not just backup database tables and server files then go maintenance mode for an hour to test BP in site? Use bp-default theme which has the regular WP template files but souped up for BuddyPress and see how it goes.
Or, export XML from your site, and install WP with BP it locally in your computer to test it out.
In reply to: Using the existing component in members theme@manimaranvel BuddyPress can only be activated once in either the main site or a secondary blog of a WP Multisite installation – there is no BP multisite at this time. If you allowed your members to create own blogs and then want to show the member profile in his/her blog, you can use a plugin – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-profile-widget-for-blogs/
99% who help out here in the BP forums are volunteers. On a very rare day, someone might come into the forums and make a long long list of all that they need for a BP site and get spoonfed with all the answers in one go, though I haven’t seen that happen totally. I know you expect answers that’s why you go to the forums but on our end, we expect that you did some research on your own as well. If you want simple BP/WP install, it’s all easy (assuming you have good server). But If you want fully customized BP install, the learning curve is medium high if you’ve got WP experience.
BP Codex – https://codex.buddypress.org/home/
BP compatible plugins – https://buddypress.org/extend/Back to Woo’s City Guide Theme, I only mentioned that theme because I saw it just before I saw your post here – CITY GUIDE. Also, as I mentioned before in post above, you would need to install BP Template Pack, make necessary changes, and if you have HTML/CSS/WordPress theming knowledge, it’ll be a breeze. You could choose whatever WP theme you want and install BP Template Pack or get a free BuddyPress theme or go for a premium BuddyPress theme with free support.
In reply to: BP Sections?off hand, two ways to make that happen:
a) You could make each group “hidden” and “by invitation” only. You could assign group admin to send email invites to the site and to the specific group. Since the group is hidden, it will not be listed in any groups directory, and you could always restrict showing list of member to Super Admin only with conditional tags.
or
b) You would need a separate install of BP and WP for the special sections you want to have. At this time, BP can only be installed once even in a multisite installation. There’s been some talk about a plugin for BP multisite but none have been released to the public yet.In reply to: Require Approval for New GroupYou’re on single WP with BP installed so that BP Profile widget won’t work for you, I should have asked that sooner. In any case, since you have installed BP, you can easily add the fields you want your users to fill in via dashboard > BuddyPress > Profile Field Setup.
In reply to: Plugin will not activateIn reply to: BP Sections? That “section” could be a “group” component already in WordPress and joining groups is either voluntary for public groups or by invitation for private groups and each group can have a forum if the group admin so chooses. That’s basic behavior which can be changed via a plugin you can make to do so. You could check out BuddyPress Group component and other default components by logging in http://testbp.org/ with the username and password you used here.
In reply to: I want to remove the logout link from the sidebar@jonnycardel so you want to delete that whole section with the avatar, login, AND logout? Open up sidebar.php https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/tags/1.2.6/bp-themes/bp-default/sidebar.php starting at line 8 where Is_user_logged_in to line 56 with php endif; deals with the avatars, login and logout. If you do not want them, delete the block.
In reply to: convert theme@pakhermawan that would certainly be an interesting project. Install BP Template Pack plugin and follow instructions on screen. Some BP Codex articles might help you along the way:

https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/In reply to: I want to remove the logout link from the sidebar@jonnycardel if you’re using a child theme of bp-default, then copy over sidebar.php from bp-default theme to child theme folder. If it’s only the Log Out link you want to delete, then delete this line from your sidebar.php
`<a class="button logout" href="”>`In reply to: Add photos to activity stream@gunju2221 Thing is, your media must be “hosted on the cincopa cloud server” and that’s the deal-breaker for some on the buddypress easy albums photos plugin .
In reply to: not showing registration link on homepage=== it’s not showing a link for people to click on to register at my site ===
You should enable Registration in dashboard > Super Admin > Options – Registration SettingsIn reply to: BP bar is messing up my website. Please helpSince you’ve enabled adminbar even for logged out users, you can add one line – padding-top: 25px; – to your active theme’s (redbel) style.css under
body:
`body {
….
…
padding-top: 25px;
}`In reply to: Is this possilbe with BuddyPress?@doodlz check out the BP Codex as well like:
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/
etcBlank screen – https://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/blank-pages/
In reply to: Is this possilbe with BuddyPress?Continuing here from WP.org forum thread, if you mean media upload by members who’re registered on your site, then what techguy said above answers your question. But if you mean online visitors do not need to register to upload media, then aside from that being a dangerous thing to do, try out TDO Mini-forms.
In reply to: BP blog menu===i have never seen any menu item for “blog”===
Do you mean a blog directory which lists all blogs in the BP install? You must enable multisite first – create a network. Then:
1. Go to dashboard > Super Admin > Options – Registration Setting – Allow site creation
2. Go to dashboard BuddyPress > Component Setup – Blog Tracking enable
3. For users’ blogs to be listed in blogs directory, Settings > Privacy must be public.Or do you mean just the “blog” section of the main site?
In reply to: icons next to navigation?– Copy over the header.php from bp-default theme to your child theme.
– Open header.php and add class to the li’s of default BP components starting from line 47 on header.php<li class="icon-home"> <li class="icon-activity"> <li class="icon-members"> <li class="icon-groups"> <li class="icon-forums">You would have to ask plugin authors of “Links” and “Achievements” on how to generate addition class for styling hook.
– after you’re done, save and upload to your child theme folder in server
– in style.css add background image to li.icon-members, li.icon–groups, etc.@mark211 – I have been using BP Gallery plugin in different installs since early 2010 and have not experienced the behavior you noted in your post. @sbrajesh would have helped you resolve any problem you may have encountered with his BP Gallery plugin. Maybe you meant another gallery/media plugin?
