Set all new users as “Contributors” where they can create a post and save it, and only you – Admin/Site Admin – can Publish the post. At this stage, you might want to set up a single WP install with multiple authors instead of allowing them to create sub-blogs using WPMU (or WP3.0 multisite), When you’re ready (and if your server can handle it), you can go multisite where users have their own sub-blogs and just export the the respective author’s posts and import into respective new sub-blogs.In reply to: is a global forum possible?@ikazet just to clarify .. when you say blogs in the same server, the first blog WP 2.9.1 is in http://www.siteA.com/ and the second blog is WP 2.9.2 with BP in http://www.siteB.com/ or is 2nd blog in separate folder that’s a subdirectory like http://www.siteA.com/secondWPinstall/?
If you install a second WP in subdirectory where there is also WP at root of domain, make sure that the name of subdirectory folder (or URL path) doesn’t conflict with something else in your main site at root. e.g. If you have a page in root named labs as in http://siteA.com/portfolio/ do not name the folder where you installed 2nd WP “portfolio”.
In reply to: Run all Buddypress pages within BackendThanks for your explanation @themeanwhile
“have you heard of anyone else trying this?”
Bring front end applications to backend – No.
It’s the other way around – bring everything from the backend to the front end so that users won’t need to access the back end at all especially where BP is installed.e.g. writing posts in front end via BP/Jet Quickpress, uploading media in front end via BP Gallery/Album, adding events in front via Event plugin etc. Therefore, yes as you noted at the beginning, you would need a BuddyPress wiz to create a plugin which will enable you to have the specs you want for the Activity part.An index.html is fine, just go to http://yoursite.com/index.php to reach front page. Bad thing is that if someone knows your site is WP/BP, they would just go to http://yoursite.com/members , /groups/ or /about/ and they could see the pages if you’ve enabled the components.
Maintenance Mode plugin works with WP/MU/BP. Thing is, it interferes with media uploads via BP plugins like BP Gallery or BP Album but it doesn’t interfere with media uploads via Post/Page panel. Good thing with this is that even if outsiders try to access site via http://yoursite.com/members etc, they won’t be able see the page/s and get redirected back to Maintenance Mode front page.In reply to: Run all Buddypress pages within Backend@themeanwhile – you can enable or disable the various components so if you want Activities only, enable that and disable other components. After you activate BuddyPress, go to the new BuddyPress menu item on the left column of dashboard, and go to

“Of course, activity filters, profile page, friends page, settings page, etc, would also need to be migrated to display in the backend.”
Why? If you want to make the BP Activity section private, you can add conditional tags for is_user_logged_in …In reply to: Some questions about BLOG POSTS in BP. Help please@r-a-y Cool, thanks. Many thanks also for addressing ticket #2427

Sitewide Unified Search Plugin by @sbrajesh
It’ll be good to go through the tutorial, but if you want the plugin asap, it’s at the bottom of the post.In reply to: [Resolved] Make Group Forum the Group Home PageYou’re both welcome. @justbishop, @r-a-y answers your question
In reply to: How to remove the WP widgets from the dashboardBloggers with Contributor roles won’t be able to see the Themes > Widget panel at all. Contributors can only see the Posts > Add New panel and Posts > Edit (their own posts) panel.
@isara what @drifter0658 said was to rename the wp-content plugins folder to something else.
Or, I remember bp-events plugin giving my test install a white screen a while back, so instead of renaming the whole plugins folder, you might want to try deleting the bp-events plugin folder first, refresh browser and try to log back in again. If that doesn’t work, rename plugins folder.@@syasar There is a Sitewide Activity Widget plugin good for BP 1.2+ by @sbrajesh
In reply to: Some questions about BLOG POSTS in BP. Help please“how can multiple users write in that blog under their own names?”
Right. Basic WordPress – https://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities#Contributor“but how can they enter the writing zone? “
Simplest way – if your users are logged in your BP install as contributors, they can go to bp-admin-bar at top and move cursor to “My Blogs”, which has a dropdown to list of blogs. When they hover over JuConnect link, the flyout nav will show the link “Add New Post” where they will be brought to the Post > New Write panel. In reply to: Automatically Connecting Multiple BP SitesAh, still the holy grail of BP at this time.

In reply to: Public Welcomes@DJPaul‘s plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/welcome-pack/ – working well in BP 1.2.4.1
There is the Members Widget which shows the “Newest” “Active” and “Popular” Members, then add a text widget on top of that to welcome members.
Plus you could always add this code in home page and style accordingly – http://wordpress.pastebin.com/Rvx4ZgWF – change title and avatar sizes to taste

In reply to: Some questions about BLOG POSTS in BP. Help please@jujunkie – hi there, you should be able to get free support from theme authors after purchasing that premium theme. I don’t know what files they have in there but here’s giving it a try:
“how can i create a button besides the ABOUT button to easily point out the blog?”
I assume that your theme has a home.php (most premium themes do), so follow #2 instruction here – http://www.nathanrice.net/blog/creating-a-blog-page-with-paging/ – take care to delete the space between less than sign and question mark in the posted codes“how can multiple users write in that blog under their own names?”
Do you mean you want to set up your installation as one site with many authors – you’re not giving them free blogs? Then you should at least make your users “Contributors” – where you have to approve each post before in order for the post to be published – or “Authors” whose can publish their posts without any moderation.“how can the titles or summaries of those posts be shown in the homepage?”
Looks like your home page is widgetized in the left column. Go to Appearance > Widgets and get the “Recent Posts” widget on left side and move to appropriate widget name.In reply to: Import Export Buddypress User DataPer roadmap, BP 1.4 will have the import/export of all user data – https://buddypress.org/about/roadmap/
In reply to: Home page and Blog page“I then changed my home page to it’s own page and specified another page for my blog.”
@hkcharlie What do you mean by you changed your home page to it’s own page? a) To a Page you created and set in Readings as static front page? b) Or created a home.php and now can’t find your main blog page?
For a) you might want to try @dwenaus solution.
For b) you might want to use Nathan Rice solution #2. Just make sure to delete the spacing between < ?php in the posted codeIn reply to: Buddypress 1.1.2https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/tags/1.1.2 download link near bottom of page
Having posted that, why not use BP 1.2.4.1? If you don’t mind my asking, what theme is that?In reply to: where are the buddypress themes?
