In reply to: How do i activate registration?
In WP 2.9.2 go to http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/options.php and go down to users_can_register and add 1 to box
In WPMU 2.9.2 go to http://yoursite.com/wp-admin/wpmu-options.php and go to Allow New Registrations — Enabled. In reply to: Default BP blog theme? Thanks @r-a-y. It could be done without a plugin by uploading the desired theme files into wp-content/themes/default folder to replace the files there. Then change the Theme Name of file of new default theme’s style.css to
Theme Name: WordPress DefaultJust keep a copy of the preferred theme in your computer so that whenever you upgrade your WP install, you upload your preferred theme files with the revised Theme Name in style.css again to wp-content/themes/default. Since upgrading WP occurs around 5 times a year or so, no hard task at all.
The only hitch is if the replacement theme has hardcoded paths instead of using relative paths and therefore would not work in folder name different from referenced files’ URL’s.
I think there’s someone working on this but not sure whether it’s for WPMU2.92./BP1.2.3 or for WP3.0/BP1.2.4orBP1.3
To get BuddyPress integrated to your WP theme – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
where you would have to make some tweaks with some div classes/ID’s and tweaking style.cssAs for BP users commenting on videos, it’s the WP thing, just go to dashboard Discussion > and allow only logged in users to comment if you want to set some limits
In reply to: Default BP blog theme?Could you be more specific? BuddyPress’ bp-default theme has all necessary files for a blog – index, style.css, archive, comments, 404, etc.
https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/tags/1.2.3/bp-themes/bp-defaultReupload style.css of your theme.

at the bottom, you’ll find how you can be listed there.@jeffsayre that was a well-written post, thank you.
@apeatling gutsy move to do the redesign and upgrade live when you know how some would react to the changes and some glitches. As it is, I could see the new BP functions that will be available so I can envision how I can use those to improve my sites. As for the current UI, I hope to see constructive and collaborative comments rather than negative and venomous ones.
edit – sorry @djpaul, posted this before I saw your post
In reply to: BuddyPress.org’s Unified Search – How can I get it?@sbrajesh what they all said. Working great in my installs. Cheers!
In reply to: Had to be an Administrator? You’re kidding me. In any case, make sure that any BP plugin you install is compatible with the WP/BP versions you are using.
In reply to: Only admin can see entire activity stream? If you change to bp-default theme, do the same behaviors happen as well?
In reply to: Had to be an Administrator?Deactivate the BP Community Blogs plugin, It’s broken in 2.9.2 and messing up with the user roles in your install.
In reply to: How can users add a new post in buddypress?Anyone tried using Posthaste Plugin or the TDO mini-forms with BP posting yet?
In reply to: Personal Activity Stream not showingWP or WPMU and version? BP version?
The widget appears in WPMU installations to show all posts within the whole site, main blog and sub-blogs. Since you’re on single WP, you would only have “Recent Posts”
In reply to: Require new groups to be approved?Hi ipstenu, I have used https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-restrict-group-creation/ in an install with community similar to what you posted above with success
In reply to: Adding contact form to members profile.“I would like the Members profile to have a contact button which when clicked allows the users to send an email to the member?”
Actually, when a logged-in user sends “Private Message” to another member, the latter receives the message in his/her email inbox. Or did you need a contact form for online visitors who are not logged in so they could touch base with any member of your community? In reply to: Admin Blog + Custom Homepage [SOLVED]From what I can see, https://buddypress.org/blog/ is posted from the main site and not in a subdirectory blog like you think it is. The /blog/ navigation comes from default theme this using the “blog” slug you see in lines 74-76
“Is it possible to do what I have in mind without creating a new sub-domain blog?”
If you want the admin blog link in main site’s home page to open up to http://blog.example.com/2010/04/26/hello-world/ per your posts above, then no. You would have to create sub-domain blog and post there, then call those admin posts in home page of main site via RSS widget, or query to list posts from your admin blog, etc. and those links would open up to your preferred URL structure above.
