    Only way your files can get written to is by someone getting your FTP passwords or has access to server. That is easily done if you get a virus/malware on your computer. Is somebody else accessing the FTP on another computer? Also, bad themes and plugins can do this as well. NEVER use a plugin or theme that was not from a reputable developer or from the WordPress repo.

    You most likely have a trojan on your computer that stole your FTP passwords. If you are on a windows PC take a sledge hammer to it and get a MAC. <– just kidding. You should run some anti-virus and change all your passwords ASAP.

    I do not understand why people have these problems. BuddyPress has similar features as Facebook and Twitter and both those services have millions of users.

    You said:
    1 The concept of Forums being tied to Groups (no one “gets” this)
    2 The serious disconnect between commenting on a blog post or forum topic in the feed vs. in the original
    3 @mentions (99% of users are like… WTH is that?)

    1 Groups in BuddyPress are like Facebook fan pages and yes Facebook fan pages have forums.
    2 You can turn it off in the admin and force users to comment on the original post and not activity
    3 @mentions are the basis of Twitter with millions of users who have no difficulty using the service. Also Facebook uses @mentions when you post status updates. You type @ then there name and they get notified about the message.

    One last thing, BuddyPress is not really an out-of-the-box software. You should figure out what functions you want for your users and then use those. Having everything can be too much.

    If it’s the same computer you saved the form to cookies. You can delete cookies and empty the cache in browser settings. If you have a computer thats used by many you should turn off the ability for a browser to save usernames and passwords.

    Just read this, BP-Share-it was fixed, just delete and re-download from repo.

    Before you could just use options.php, now it seems you need the network admin url. Search for options.php, if all you see is that then wrap it with network_admin_url(“options.php”). Should be on the post form

    I’m signing up to the reviewers email list and asking to get added to BP themes. One problem is the time themes get reviewed. I had to wait 6 weeks to be told BP-default is missing WP theme requirements. These requirements should def be included but if the reviewer was aware they’d know it’s coming in 1.3

    I have a few other themes I never bothered adding to repo because I didn’t see the point when I knew it would get rejected. Sadly, it’s the BuddyPress community who loses out on good and varied themes

    Ok so issue seems to be reviewers who know nothing of BP themes and are reviewing theme as WP themes. This is completely wrong as BP adds many more functions. So if a child theme is uploaded and they approve it as it passes WP theme standards but adds a function that breaks a BP function the reviewer may never know but the end user will be on this forum complaining

    Got a back and forth convo of reviewers that’s quit comical. They did approve. I think BuddyPress should be an exception but at the same time must use all BuddyPress functions / components and of course pass WordPress theme scan.

    The child theme they are questioning is just a CSS file one page template and a funtions file. That should pass 100% but they scan it and it fails 99% because they are scanning against WordPress not BuddyPress

    How big is BP? Should it have it’s on theme section in the repo or will the requirement be that it will work as WP theme when BP is switched off? Do we as a community need our own site for free BP child themes? These questions and many more when we come back from this commercial break. :)

    Reviewers requirements for bp-default:

    `REQUIRED: No content width has been defined. Example:
    if ( ! isset( $content_width ) ) $content_width = 900;
    REQUIRED: Could not find post_class. See: post_class <div id="post-” >
    REQUIRED: Could not find comment_form. See: comment_form
    REQUIRED: Could not find add_theme_support( ‘automatic-feed-links’ ). See: add_theme_support
    REQUIRED: options.php. Themes should use add_theme_page() for adding admin pages.
    Line 5: add_action( ‘admin_menu’, array( ‘Bp_Dtheme_Options_Page’, ‘add_options_page’ ) );Line 8: function add_options_page() {
    REQUIRED: get_the_author_email found in the file search.php. Deprecated since version 2.8. Use get_the_author_meta(’email’) instead.
    Line 28:
    REQUIRED: get_the_attachment_link found in the file attachment.php. Deprecated since version 2.5. Use wp_get_attachment_link() instead.
    Line 15: ID, true, array(450, 800)); This also pop

    REQUIRED: get_links_list found in the file links.php. Deprecated since version 2.1. Use wp_list_bookmarks() instead.
    Line 19:
    REQUIRED: delete_usermeta found in the file ajax.php. Deprecated since version 3.0. Use delete_user_meta() instead.
    Line 95: delete_usermeta( $bp->loggedin_user->id, ‘bp_new_mention_count’ );
    REQUIRED: .gallery-caption css class is needed in your theme css.`

    Did you change the login name via a plugin or in the database? I’m looking at your site and the @mentions name in the usernav
    is different –> @BNIWAdmin when the profile header says @stevieG

    @modemlooper

    Moderator

    Something is off then because on every site i’ve ever used BP on the @name on your profile IS the login name.

    @StevieG is your login name on here right? You should get notified of this reply because I @’d you. That’s how it works on every BP site.

    The name you message with and what BP attaches content to is the same username you log in with. If you’ve edited core code then you’ve messed up the way it works. There is no inconsistency.I used twitter as a reference because that is exactly the way BP works in displaying usernames and full profile names.

    How would anyone know who and admin is on a site unless you tell them?

    @modemlooper

    Don’t see what the problem is, Twitter works like this. you have your @name and you can specify a full name in profile. There is a plugin that forces @username everywhere.

    Core devs. See what they have to say about the database schema and any other suggestions. I still do not really under stand what you are trying to accomplish. BP displays a username, the name you use to sign in and then a name you specify for your profile. If you just want the profile name hidden or switched to username seems like it would be easier to just change out the function code that creates these instances of it.

    Most WP plugins will work. BuddyPress is just a WP plugin with special template tags and a whole lots-O-whizbang!

    If you click extend above you can see that a lot of those plugins are just WP plugins that have been tagged BP as they work.

    bp_activity_action() is a piece of work as the code is split up all over in the file.

    `function bp_activity_user_link() {
    echo bp_get_activity_user_link();
    }
    function bp_get_activity_user_link() {
    global $activities_template;

    if ( empty( $activities_template->activity->user_id ) )
    $link = $activities_template->activity->primary_link;
    else
    $link = bp_core_get_user_domain( $activities_template->activity->user_id, $activities_template->activity->user_nicename, $activities_template->activity->user_login );

    return apply_filters( ‘bp_get_activity_user_link’, $link );
    }`

    Not sure if this is what’s calling the username in the activity stream

    If i’m reading you right all you need to do is replace bp_displayed_user_fullname() with bp_displayed_user_username() in the member-header.php file.

    There’s also the function bp_member_name() that shows on the members directory loop. And then in the activity stream there is code that spits out the who when and where of each activity bp_activity_action()

    These functions are mostly in each folder corresponding to that BP component so activity would be in activity/bp-activity-templatetags.php

    Facebook doesn’t nest for this very reason. It’s too much to read when you have a ton of comments. You can also remove it by altering CSS.

    That would be serious work. You’d have create a component of your own. No way to do that on top of the default group component.
