In reply to: How do I favorite a forum post?
right now it would need to be on the activity stream (in order to save the reference to a forum topic)
but the underlying bbPress Favorites functionality is still there – just someone need to wrap it and bring it into the BuddyPress fold (which i suspect i’ll try this myself in the coming weeks) – probably won’t work with the BP favorites though (as that is only tied to activity records)
In reply to: How do I favorite a forum post?That bbPress functionality is not carried over into the group forums
more of general feedback – i think the new site is great and all the hard work that goes into something like this (especially pulling in the plugins to groups)
but i find myself a little distracted – i can’t put my finger on it (maybe since i’ve tweaked my own stuff to bring things more inline) but something with the disparity between sections (activity). i hate being vague though so I realize this is not helping

One weird bug – after sending a private message: my adminbar shows a new notification but obviously nothing is there as i sent one instead of receiving.
In reply to: make minimum length of username configurablei would file a trac ticket for the request (unless there is another restriction with WP)
bp_forums_get_topic_id_from_slugIn reply to: Disable /wp-admin/ for "normal" userssure – whatever to suit someone’s need would work
that statement above will only return the forum_id used (to match up the group to the bbpress forum_id)
In reply to: user joined whensorry, that was within the has_member loop.
this would work
$bp->displayed_user->userdata->user_registeredattribute_escape( bp_core_get_last_activity( $bp->displayed_user->userdata->user_registered, __( 'registered %s ago', 'buddypress' ) ) )In reply to: user joined whenbp_member_registered()will echo registered x agootherwise you can use whatever with
$members_template->member->user_registeredIn reply to: Widget areas for Groups, Forums, etcFor example, “!is_home() && is_user_logged_in()” allows me to place a widget in the sidebar anywhere but home where the user is logged in, but how might I use that logic to place it specifically on the Groups page, for example?
have a look in bp-core-templatetags.php and under the section:
/* Template is_() functions to determine the current page */
In reply to: Disable /wp-admin/ for "normal" usersfunction block_wp_admin_init() {
if (strpos(strtolower($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']),'/wp-admin/') !== false) {
if ( !is_site_admin() ) {
wp_redirect( get_option('siteurl'), 302 );
}
}
}
add_action('init','block_wp_admin_init',0);(might be better to use admin_init ?)
In reply to: How to keep the sticky posts at the topcheck into the bbPress function
get_sticky_topics()and use that in some capacity on the forums/index.php theme page.sometimes it depends on your host too. emails from my default bp install on dreamhost tend to make the junk/spam folder (yahoo, gmail, etc)
Getting the original post’s time stamp to stay at the original value and show the most recent time stamp on the latest reply, all the while having it bump.
might be possible… if anyone wants to try running something on this filter:
apply_filters( 'bp_activity_time_since', '<span class="time-since">' . sprintf( __( '%s ago', 'buddypress' ), bp_core_time_since( $activities_template->activity->date_recorded ) ) . '</span>', &$activities_template->activity );check if the activity meta key ‘bump_date_recorded’ exists and swap it in for the time_since
(i’m not sure about the second question)
In reply to: Activity, Groups Cluttered?you could use
bp_create_excerptto truncate the messages (either before they are saved – see my post above or when pulled out in the theme)In reply to: Removing Favoritessomething like:
bp_core_remove_subnav_item( $bp->activity->slug, 'favorites' );In reply to: Activity, Groups Cluttered?for groups – crack open bp-groups.php and search for each instance of
groups_record_activityand you’ll see certain filters on the action/contentie
'action' => apply_filters( 'groups_activity_new_update_action', $activity_action ),
'content' => apply_filters( 'groups_activity_new_update_content', $activity_content ),In reply to: BuddyPress-Links 0.4.x Releases and Supportpossible to filter on bp_get_activity_avatar and replace that with the link thumbnail?
In reply to: Removing Favoritesa simple way: just remove the favorite_link() code from the theme file /activity/entry.php
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum Extras@kriskl – can you message me whatever errors the forum index was producing (or at least what is happening to crash the site) but i’ll look over the filter stuff and make sure all forums are being returned. (maybe something is related when not returning the full set)
as for the move topic, new topics since last visit from @3sixty i don’t mind adding those in – just time hasn’t been favorable of late with looming projects before i head out on vacation.
as for the topic views – i’ll dig up _ck_’s old one and see if that can be easily moved over
check your spam folder – that site is on a shared host (dreamhost) – so emails typically get junked easily.
yep, that is the ticket
(i’m a fan of having a date_modified col in db – so hopefully that could happen here and then a site admin could have a choice on what to sort on)but this hack (while you do not have to touch any core files) will mess with intention of the date_recorded value (but saves the original in the activity meta table)
In reply to: Trying to alter layout of bp_activity_action()In reply to: Smilies / Emoticons How to (?)got around to posting up what i did – but on the forum area only.
(though i’m using markitup – but i’m sure anything can be used)
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum Extrasthe index won’t paginate and it will only display public and/or if that certain user is a member of other private/hidden groups – at least that is what the logic is suppose to do
In reply to: Best WYSIWYG for forumsif this helps anyone but my quick start for markitup (just the group forum areas for now – something funky with the activity entry textarea)
markitup will handle html or bbcode (enable the shortfilter and use this plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/boingball-bbcode/) – and you can fake the WYSIWYG part by using the preview option
