In reply to: Fatal error: Class ‘WP_Widget’
Sounds like you’re trying to use BP 1.1 on WPMU 2.7.1.
BP 1.1+ requires WPMU 2.8+.
In reply to: Users can’t log in to their blogs…. Will $20 do it?Hey preachur,
Use the WPMU plugin called New Blog Defaults to set the default theme for new blogs:
http://wpmudev.org/project/New-Blog-Defaults
Put the file in your /wp-content/mu-plugins/ folder.
In reply to: Filter activity by blog (or group)? If you’d like to associate a blog with a group, you could use Marius Ooms’ BP Groupblog plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-groupblog/
Most likely the group filter will pick up the blog as a group.
—
There’s also Andy’s External Feeds plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/external-group-blogs/
Which you can use to grab an RSS feed and it will populate the group activity and site-wide activity streams.

About the other questions, I don’t have time to delve into it!
Maybe a mod or someone else can help you.
In reply to: creating users with custom fields…how?Manoj Kumar used to have a plugin to do this via CSV, but I’m not sure it works with BP 1.1+.
Check out these plugins:
http://manojkumar.org/user-import-for-buddypress/
http://manojkumar.org/bulk-import-members-users-plugin-for-buddypress-site/
You could probably hack it to work for BP 1.1 if it doesn’t work.
The only other way to mass populate your BP community would be to do it via mySQL or PHPMyAdmin.
I think you can upgrade, but beware that this is frowned upon as the offical documentation states that you need WPMU 2.8+ or higher.
The other thing to keep in mind is that your BP widgets will not work due to the new widget system in WP 2.8+.
What are the plugins that are keeping you from upgrading?
In reply to: Custom Password During RegistrationYangers101, you’ll have to upgrade to the latest version of BP 1.1 like socialpreneur mentioned.
In reply to: BBpress and subforums?Hi capitalistdog,
Short answer as of right now is “No”.
This feature has been listed as a new enhancement here:
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/946
What you could do right now is create five separate groups for your different Economic sections… I know that’s not what you wanted to hear!
In reply to: Register vs wp-signup : passwords vs signup questionIn BP 1.1+, the registration process has changed.
These older registration plugins need to hook into BP 1.1’s new actions for registration and validation.
The plugins on regular WPMUdev.org are GPL; the plugins on premium.wpmudev.org are iffy in terms of license.
I’m about to fork one of Andrew’s BP plugins myself… just got to clean up the code.
In reply to: Missing argument 2 for bp_get_the_body_classJust encountered this issue, this is most likely because everyone in this thread is using the deprecated /bp-themes/ format.
I tried German’s fix but that duplicated some CSS classes.
Since I was already using some form of filter to add CSS classes to the body, I removed the bp_get_the_body_class() filter.
If you want to do the same, put this somewhere in your theme’s functions.php:
remove_filter( 'body_class', 'bp_get_the_body_class', 10, 2 );In reply to: Multi-thread WiresUpdate: Just checked the latest changelog and Andy has just added initial threaded activity commenting in trunk.
I guess it’s relatively safe to say this feature will be a part of BP 1.1.3!
In reply to: Feature Request: Group Activity RSS FeedJust thinking for the future here…
With the upcoming Privacy component (official or unofficial), we’ll also have to think about how friend feeds will be accessible if privacy options are enabled by users.
Not sure if you’ve already thought about this, Jeff!
In reply to: Register vs wp-signup : passwords vs signup questionThe register page can be renamed by changing the registration slug.
Add this line somewhere in your wp-config.php:
define( 'BP_REGISTER_SLUG', 'yourregisterslug' );Change ‘yourregisterslug’ to whatever you want it to be.
In reply to: fullname vs username vs first + last name…Definitely LadiesMan269.
There are too many John Smith’s in the world
j/k
In reply to: Theme reference guide for 1.1?I’ve seen all the BP conditional template tags, but I’m wondering what is the simplest and easiest way to tell if you are on any BP page compared to a WP page in BP 1.1?
Reason is I’d like to put this conditional in header.php so I can differentiate what is seen on a BP page.
Nice work!
In reply to: Friends Function Has Disappeared…Login to the WPMU admin area, navigate to BuddyPress > Component Setup.
Start enabling/disabling and see what happens.
Is your WP+bb already integrated? If it is, you can probably easily migrate to BP!
I’d probably upgrade your bbPress install to 1.0.2.
Then convert the WP site to WPMU. Here’s a guide I’ve used in the past that might help:
http://welcome.totheinter.net/2008/10/04/how-to-migrate-from-wordpress-to-wordpress-mu/
At this point, I’d make sure to see if bbPress integration is properly integrated with your new WPMU setup. The bbPress integration plugin will help here.
I’d then install BuddyPress and try to use your existing bbPress setup.

EDIT: Just read this:
but my bbpress and my wp are 2 different databases, so with bp 1.1 if I combine these, it sounds like it will be easier to integrate these?
Since your bbPress db does not use the same database as your WP install, I don’t think this is going to work.
More info here:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-discussions/buddypress-forum/
You could probably use BuddyPress’ internal bbPress setup, but then your original bbPress will be separate from BP.
Hopefully someone else can jump in with more info.
In reply to: REQUEST: Able to limit who can only create groupsHey glittereyes,
Check out this post by Andy:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/disallow-ordinary-users-to-create-groups#post-28404
With this code, only site admins can create groups.
In reply to: Hide welcome widget if user is loggedGlad I could help!
By the way, how is your classifieds plugin coming?
BuddyPress pre-1.1 had an option to do this via .CSV.
But, it appears that option was removed in the latest versions of BP.
Keep an eye on this ticket:
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/1327
to see what happens.
In reply to: Multi-thread WiresCool!
In reply to: X-Profile FieldsI don’t see this as well in BP 1.1+.
This was extremely useful!
But, I’m guessing if you already have these profile fields setup when you upgrade, these fields should still exist.
It’s only if you decide to create new x-profile fields that you won’t be able to use the CSV option.

EDIT: Added an enhancement ticket in Trac:
In reply to: Themes or Styles for Member Pages in BP 1.1.2You can still use the old “bp-themes” format (for now anyway) as long as you haven’t deleted the “bp-themes” directory.
I’ve quoted the following from:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/upgrading-a-buddypress-1-0-theme-for-buddypress-1-1/
Firstly you can revert to the old BuddyPress 1.0 theme system. Simply recover your /wp-content/bp-themes/ folder. This will revert BuddyPress into compatibility mode. You will not see all of the new features added in 1.1, but you will gain from performance and code improvements.
But be advised that, from what I’ve heard, the old 2-way theme format is going be phased out eventually in a future BP release.
In reply to: external-group-blogs Plugin update-bug?Andy,
Looking at the codex, it appears you’re missing an add_action.
Change the first five lines of your plugin to:
/* Schedule an event that will update all external blog feeds twice daily. */
function bp_groupblogs_on_activation() {
wp_schedule_event( time(), 'twicedaily', 'bp_groupblogs_action' );
}
register_activation_hook( __FILE__, 'bp_groupblogs_on_activation' );
add_action('bp_groupblogs_action','bp_groupblogs_update_all_feeds');This is untested, not sure if it will work.
In reply to: New Plugin – BuddyPress Links – Beta SupportDisregard my initial thoughts about Links being a news aggregator plugin!
Just me posting my first impressions without looking into it.
Custom bookmarklet / remote submit sounds cool.
I guess the reason why I thought automation would be nice is not every community will be constantly active with activity.
People are lazy. Well I know I am! I don’t submit articles on Digg, but I go there to read what people submitted!
