It’s important to know what you want to accomplish.
Do you want to install both group forums and sitewide forums or just one of the choices?
Try reading this tutorial:
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/If you have any questions after reading it, please post them.
In reply to: BuddyPress ThemeThe buddypress.org theme was created by John.
It will probably not be publicly released, though if you have experience designing and developing WordPress themes, it shouldn’t be that hard to replicate the look and feel.
For the BuddyBar, check out:
/wp-content/buddypress/bp-core/css/buddybar.dev.cssFor the WP Admin Bar / Toolbar, check out:
/wp-content/buddypress/bp-core/css/admin-bar.dev.css—
You should make style overrides in your theme’s stylesheet (/wp-content/themes/YOUR-THEME/style.css) and not the files listed above.
In reply to: [Resolved] Ajax Tabs and Order By filter not workingWordPress 3.2 uses a newer version of jQuery that conflicts with the JS in BuddyPress 1.2.x.
Alter your /bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/global.js to reflect the following:

https://github.com/boonebgorges/bp-social-media-profilesIn reply to: Writing to which DatabaseIf you enabled blog tracking on your Multisite, then activity from both installations will appear in your BP activity stream.
By default, BP will add “wp_bp_” tables to your database.
To view a list of the tables, check out the “Advanced Optional Step: Removing the database tables” section of this codex article:
https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/deleting-buddypress/In reply to: Fatal error after BP installYou’re using WP 3.0.2; try upgrading your WordPress install to the latest release (v3.3) or at least v3.2.1.
In reply to: bp_get_following_ids() returns a string ?The original code uses a string; it’s easy enough to make the comma-delimited string an array by using explode().
@ultimateuser – It’s much easier to do this in BP 1.5.
Remove the old snippet and add the following to wp-config.php or /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php:
`define( ‘BP_MESSAGES_AUTOCOMPLETE_ALL’, true );`In reply to: Can’t leave a reply on activity feed@porscheheritage – You could try upgrading the jQuery library with a plugin.
There are a couple out there. Browse through:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=jqueryI should say I haven’t tested this myself.
In reply to: Custom Post Type to Activity streamIn BP 1.5, the “bp_blogs_record_post_post_types” filter was added so you can add additional post types by hooking into the filter:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.1/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-functions.php#L168In reply to: Two issues possibly relatedSounds like you have a code snippet somewhere that is attempting to do the redirect.
Look in your plugins, your theme, your theme’s functions.php or /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php and look for any calls to bp_core_redirect().
In reply to: Buddypress Followers & Suffusion ThemeThis bug is caused when javascript is disabled or when you have conflicting javascript in your theme or plugin set up.
This is fixed in the development version of the plugin:
https://github.com/r-a-y/buddypress-followers/zipball/masterNew release is scheduled to drop in the next few days pending any other bug reports.
Regardless, it would be good to spend some time to track down your javascript conflicts.
View this thread for a solution:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-clear-the-previous-registration-form-data-1/In the current BP system, you’d need to create groups for each of your cities.
Then enable the discussion forum for each group and you should be good. You might be more interested in using the bbPress forum plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpressAn example of the bbPress plugin in action can be found here:
http://testbp.org/discussion/Full BuddyPress integration with bbPress is scheduled for the next major release of BP, v1.6.
In reply to: Can’t leave a reply on activity feed@porscheheritage – BP 1.5 requires at least WP 3.2; upgrade your WordPress install to WP 3.2 and you should be good!
In reply to: no new members can join buddy pressshootingpedia – Your problem isn’t related to the problem listed in this thread.
To enable registration, read this:
https://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/frequently-asked-questions/#registerIn reply to: Problem with avatarIf you want to use BuddyPress’ avatar system, deactivate Simple Local Avatars.
If you want to use Simple Local Avatars instead of BP’s avatars, you’d need to disable BP’s avatar functionality.
To do this, login to the WP dashboard and navigate to “BuddyPress > Settings” and for “Disable avatar uploads?”, select “Yes” and save.
Give that a shot and see what happens. You might have to add some code so Simple Local Avatars overrides all traces of WP avatars. (Not sure though.)
In reply to: No profile settings page?If you’re using an older custom theme, read the following info:
https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/1-5-developer-and-designer-information/#themeIn reply to: Customizing BuddyPressThat can be easily accomplished with a group loop:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-groups-loop/The “Post New Topic” button just links directly to the group forum’s new topic form.
In reply to: User Posts Without Admin PanelThis is more of a WordPress question rather than a BuddyPress one.
Here’s a post that will get you started:
http://wpmu.org/8-wordpress-plugins-that-enable-posting-and-editing-from-the-front-end/Add the following in your theme’s functions.php:
`remove_filter( ‘bp_get_activity_action_pre_meta’, ‘bp_dtheme_activity_secondary_avatars’, 10, 2 );`
In reply to: Core field_1 getting overwrited with usernameIn reply to: Can’t leave a reply on activity feedBuddyPress activity replies only work when javascript is enabled. This is a known issue:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3705The problem is your theme (and/or plugins) is conflicting with BuddyPress’ javascript. If you check your browser’s debug console, you should see some javascript errors.
Try to nail down where the issue originally came from. It should be a plugin or your theme’s JS that is the culprit.
In reply to: BuddyPress robots.txtThis isn’t really a BP-related question, but a robots.txt file is usually not necessary; it’s only needed if you want to block certain bots from your site.
More info here:
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=156449Also make sure you’re not already using a robots.txt plugin like:
