  • just an fyi for those wishing to do this, when a user goes to to post a topic, if they havent joined a group yet they are prompted to join or create one. So to get rid of this message, go into BP folder, forums folder, index.php file. in that file, just delete the part of the text that asks the user to create a group.

at this time it seems like the only way to do it is to do it yourself/hire a programmer. i would like to do the same thing but have not found anything that can migrate or bridge them that works well with phpbb3.

    boone,

either of your options would be awesome. at this point, i dont think the converter does phpbb3, so thats not an option for me:(

the reason i even thought about it is that i use coppermine photogallery for my phpbb forum and coppermine comes with bridges for a lot of the main forum programs, which increased its user base a lot.

I get that there are plugins for this stuff but it would be awesome if it were already built in. i know BP is very new but down the road these types of features would be nice. i am not a fan of installing too many plugins or relying on them because the software upgrades dont always coincide with them and many times plugin support/development is not continued. ive had this experience with phpbb mods for many years.

as far as the forum, many people have well established forums with 1000s of posts and members so they cant just ditch them. also having the buddypress community system is an awesome feature for forums. they work together really well. some software, such as coppermine includes bridges to forums, which increases its user base a lot.

    yep same problem

reinstalled it and it was working. so im assuming your plugin was working. however, i hadnt done any modifications at all to BP so im not sure why i was getting the error. it could have been that i hadnt posted to the forums yet maybe.

i actually didnt try. i only tried to create the topic after i installed the plugin. i was using the internal version of bbpress in BP. I can do a test to see if it happens again, i can back up my stuff, install and see what happens. would you like me to?

yea im fairly certain the error was from your plugin but not 100%…at least thats the only thing i believe it could have been since it was the only plugin i had or tried to install. i am using WP and BP latest versions. and i am using the default BP theme. I had no mods or plugins installed except that one.

it worked fine doing what it was supposed to be doing not letting users create a group…however i couldnt create a topic in my forums. i would try to and i would get an error saying something like: ‘There was an error creating this topic’ in a red box. I tried as the admin and a user with the same result. deactivating it did not help so i reinstalled WP and BP and now my forums work and i can create topics.

OK cool, thanks. I doubt they would go to the url but i will keep that in mind.

just curious, if you dont mind me asking, how much are you paying them to do it? it would be great to get an idea as to how much something like that costs.

found some answers to my questions which helped out a lot…

how do i create a tab for this blog?

i did this in the settings where i could make my blog a tab (static page) rather than being the home tab. this was what i wanted to do. now my home page is static and i have a tab for my blog.

how do i let my users create their own blog?

using WPMU which i am not going to do. i am more content with WP at this time after looking more into wpmu

if you find an easy way to do this, please let me and other users know. if you could, writing a plug in for it would be awesome. many people have phpbb3 forums and would love to integrate them easily into bbpress

i dont really need them, just thought it would be nice to have. i may play around with it to see if i can get WPMU installed. Im not sure how my hosting service will handle it though..im using icdsoft. i will probably end up just keeping WP

    using standard WP:(

check out icdsoft.com and bluehost.com. i am a college professor and teach web design courses…those are the two i recommend to my students after much research.

OK, got it to work, however, it was very messy so i uninstalled it.

one thing i did like about the united was that it allowed me to transfer all of my WP users to PHPBB users, unfortunately i needed the opposite. if i could transfer my phpbb users to WP, i could moderate one of the two and add them as they come.

yea i did. it didnt work and i played around with it for a while. i probably should go in and play around some more…i just hate relying on mods because they dont always have full support. i am not a php expert by any means, more of a css/html guy so when their are problems i usually just put my tail between my legs rather than trying to fix them:)

    cool thanks for the info

im currently using buddypress and phpbb…actually still testing buddypress at this point. the problem is that users need to log into both separately, there is no bridge built in. ive tried several different plugins and bridges but they havent worked right with the 1.2 buddypress version yet. i would actually switch to bbpress if i could integrate my current phpbb forum into it.

after looking around the ‘request’ forum, i see others have already asked this. hope this is a feature in the next version:)

unless i type in each users name, there is no way to send them the message unless im missing something. if i click the ‘this notice to all users’ box it doestn send an actual email, just a notice when they log in next time. So is the only way to send a mass email to type in each users username?

ended up reinstalling wordpress and buddypress. not sure what the problem was but its working now.

i actually checked the option to make the admin bar invisible unless you are logged in. if you login using the username: test and password: test, you will see the admin bar.

even if its 64mb, wouldnt it quickly fill up if users added a bunch of 2mb pics? is there an option to say, sorry this image is too large, it needs to be xyz size to be posted here? or an option to have it resized automatically?

thanks for your help, i am looking into the 64mb setting though.
