    Also, just so you’re aware, the username is what your member profile will be based off of. i.e. your member profile link will be blah.com/member/username. Even if you change your display name, when someone goes to the link, it will still show the username.

    If you’re just starting development, you’re going to be out of date if you start on 1.1.3. I’ve been in development for 2 months and was working on 1.1.3 and realized I was accomplishing nothing because all of the plugins that I need are either in development on 1.2 (bp-gallery) or had bugs on my installation and didn’t want to ask to get it working on 1.1.3 when it would have needed to be upgraded to 1.2 when it came out anyway.

    I’ve upgraded to 1.2 and at least now, when plugins are updated, I’ll be able to throw them on my install and troubleshoot on my “live” site.

    I have it loaded and it works for creating users but I’m debating on where and how to include the login field. I’d like to take it off and disable wp-login.php and have it added to the bp register page but I’m still not quite sure if that will work and still have them fill out their profile fields. Any suggestions? Also, if anyone knows what code needs to be put on the register template to include the same gigya login box that appears on the wp-login.php, i’d be really grateful.

    Any suggestions on this anyone? I’m still debating splitting my main news site from the community site but just wondering which one makes more sense and is easier to integrate with gigya. Should I let people register on my community site and disable registration on my main blog and just let a plugin add the users to the main blog or should i use gigya wp plugin to let people hit wp-login? I think that’s more my concern is which one is more secure. My other question is since the gigya plugin lets you create users when logging in, does that actually completely bypass the registration page from bp with all its fields?

    Thanks for the help anyone.

    Are you sure your .htaccess file is writeable? I had something similar but doesn’t matter how many times you change it if it can’t update the rules. It sounds like your rewrite rules aren’t correct but I’m definitely not an expert.

    Sounds like your permalinks got messed up when installing. Try checking those and see if that fixes it.

    With the option of running bp on a subblog by defining the root blog as “2”, does that stop the buddybar from appearing on the main blog so that it only appears when you visit the bp enabled blog? If you set the root blog as fans.blah.com and set multiblog to true, would the buddybar then read that the links should go to fans.blah.com/members, etc?

    Just trying to figure out if I need either/or of these two options.

    Hmm. So like the helloecoliving.com site, you can set up wpmu and load buddypress on a subblog like community? I thought that bp had to reside on the root install. I apologize if I sound like an idiot for not realizing that, but is that the case? This might be the answer to my problem where I can have a standard wordpress site/theme for the root, but a bp enabled theme for the community blog.

    Thanks Brajesh. Saving me here on the bp forums too :)

    I found the link. Didn’t realize you couldn’t manage them from site admin anymore.

    Good to know that it’s not just me. Wanted to test some deep integration things with group forums but can’t since I can’t create groups. I’ll wait to see what’s going on.

    Thanks.

    I like how you did the site wide activity. This is a stupid question, but how did you get it to just use the title and user without the date and other info? Yours looks so much cleaner than mine. Did you modify the site wide activity widget or are you using a different one?

    Hmm. I created a child theme for my site using cosmic buddy and THOUGHT i had everything working. I know that it pulls the templates from my child theme and overrides the parent but while trying to figure out why some of the css that I was changing wasn’t working, I realized that all of the css is being pulled from my parent theme. Any idea how I could be pulling templates from the child but css from the parent even though I have css files in the child?

    if I’m not mistaken, all of the bp-dev.org plugins were all in beta and were for older versions of buddypress. That plugin looks like it was created for bp 1.0 and as such probably doesn’t work.

    He had some really nice plugins there and I wish he was still active but I don’t think any of the plugins on there have been updated for the newer versions.

    I’m in the same boat as you nig3d except all i want is additional forums, not necessarily plugins. I would “think” that it wouldn’t be hard for bp to hook in and add a forum in the same way that it creates a group forum to create a forum with generic permissions but I’m definitely not an expert.

    By any chance did you test adding other forums through the back end and seeing if they show up on the forums page? I think if you could have the best of both world (the easy integration of the default install with the ability to add other forums) I think that would be a HUGE feature.

    Interesting. Wonder if you could use this to create extra forums like a Miscellaneous or a General forum? I want to use the default install because I like the way it all integrated with the group forums, but I wanted to have some general forums for random stuff that I really don’t want to have to force people to sign up to that group just to post there. Right now, having to skin and deal with external bbpress installation seems more of a hassle than dealing with the random forum for me.

    I really like how you separated the community and pulled the slugs out of the menu except for that. I might borrow that idea for our site to unclutter my nav bar. :)

    If you have any ideas you could share, please pm me. :)

    External one just gives you the basic forum admin. You have the ability to create additional forums that don’t belong to groups. With the default one click method, you have to create a group for every forum that you want to create.

    I know that the tutorial is for external bbpress integration. What I’m saying is that it was written before you had the option for linking bp to bbpress inside of buddypress. If I delete my bbconfig and reinstall forums, do I need to go through the full install including the cookies or do I only have to go to a certain point and then let buddypress handle it. I know that once I select external bbpress an let it integrae, I can then delete my old install files because it takes over. I just didn’t know at what point it takes over.

    Thanks for linking me to the guide again. Was going to have to dig through old links to find it.

    @symm2112

    Is that still valid? I used that before but not with1.1.3 before the one step integration so didn’t know if I still needed the plugin to link or anything else.

    @symm2112

    I’m faced with the same situation. I love the integrated except for the fact that you cannot create any other forums that will not belong to any groups. This means that for every forum you want, you have to have members join that group as well to be able to post. I’m trying to find out current integration instructions for brand new full featured bbpress integrated since the old deep integration document seems for an old version. I don’t know if I have to fully set them up including cookie integration or if the bp linking handles that. I just wish I didn’t have to mess with themes and everything just to be able to add extra forums. That’s one question you’ll have to ask yourself.

    Check the blog settings in siteadmin and make sure they’re set to public, otherwise they won’t be shown.

    I don’t mind subscription services and believe that they should be compensated, but $79 a month is a bit high. I paid for $30 for buddydev for 3 months and think that’s worth it.

    If I could buy outright the magazine theme to try and the calendar plugin and receive updates, I’d pay $79 for them right now, even if I just got updates for 6 months or so.I just don’t want to commit to that much per month with bp 1.2 pending, wpmu 2.9 pending, etc.

    I’m with you David. I just posted a comment on that plugin to ask about changes to their subscription model. $79 is a small price to pay for something that powerful but unlike other software, you NEED to be able to get updates with how often bp/wp updates come out. The difference is that unlike other software that means you just don’t get new features, this plugin will probably BREAK when the new version comes out. Think about having to keep buying a game for your xbox every time xbox live gets updated or having to rebuy software every time microsoft updates windows with patches.

    I propose that for subscription models like them, that it would be good if they offered free upgrades to software THAT YOU HAD ACCESS TO WHEN YOUR SUBSCRIPTION WAS LIVE. I can understand not giving you acess to new software/plugins but if they just offered you updates for something like 6 months, that would be sufficient. or else, if they just sold the plugin by itself and you received updates for free, that would work too.

    For instance, i register and download theme A and plugin A and cancel my subscription. Next month plugin b comes out and BP 1.2 comes out. I can understand not getting plugin B but if plugin A breaks with 1.2, that means that I paid $79 for it to work for a month and then will need to buy it again.

    Am I crazy in thinking this? I’m sure like me this project has a very limited budget and $80 a month just to make sure that my site will continue to function is a bit out of range.
