    White screens of death can be many things, but it is a PHP Fatal Error for sure. Check your apache error logs and it will tell you the error.

    It happens when you are registering in a timezone different than the server (you are in the future). It will show that until the timestamp of your registration matches the time on the server. Only way to fix this is change the timezone in your blog options.

    If you do a search for “private” or “members only” you will find loads of examples of what people are doing to restrict things right now with Buddypress ;)

    I would stick with a minimum of a VPS for your install. Either with a company that expands to extremely large VPS resources (like slicehost) or with a company that can eventually get you into a dedicated server if needed (futurehosting). Of course, I will give my plug if you plan on getting large really quickly of (serverbeach.com) if you need large resources right off the bat.

    All of the things that PerS mentioned are also good to look at.

    These forums are not meant to be a job board. They are for ideas on expanding buddypress and support in general. If someone asks for paid support they must leave their contact information and the thread will be closed.

    You can put the forum wherever you want to be honest, but my directions was assuming you knew what bbPress is. It is a completely seperate software package and needs to be installed somewhere ;) In my example it was mydomain.com/forum/ and I installed it from downloading from https://bbpress.org/download/

    That is the first step and most people install it so that it uses the same userbase from your WPMU install (which is part of the bbPress installation steps)

    Hope that makes it clear.

    I will keep an eye open, but haven’t seen that one either. Anything in common when it happens? Author? Dates? Deleted content? Something that might give a clue where to look?

    Andy has mentioned it will be introduced after a stable 1.0 release is out! :)

    I am using the latest trunk as of r1132 and don’t have this issue. Have you made sure you copied all the new functions over to your custom member theme?

    I know what you mean. I am actually in the middle of playing around with Donncha’s plugin for a couple of other reasons and have noticed this one. The reason I think it doesn’t redirect the main blog is because it only sets the domain.com as the siteurl when it has links created. It might mean that instead of using Donncha’s plugin you might have to manually change the blog URL to domain.com and manually update bp blogs tables. It is something that needs to be addressed, but I personally need the original domain of blog.domain.com due to a couple of other reasons and only want the mapped domain up front, not in the dashboard. Different strokes eh? !

    You should be able to manually put something in your .htaccess to convert all links from blog.domain.com to domain.com though as I did this before the domain mapping when I was just using proxy.

    You have a pretty large site Bill, so I would imagine that with as many blogs as you are running you could be spiking memory quite often. I would imagine that running wp-super-cache on the main blog (if not all blogs) would be extremely helpful to you even if you have the cache times really low. Any new posts on wires, groups, etc clear cache anyways, so content is always fresh.

    Stand corrected…it is a bug, but not a buddypress bug ;)

    @trent

    It would be the same thing as with any other WP install, if a user registers (in your case) 11 hours in future, it shows that. The only thing you can do is make sure the timezone of the server is exactly the timezone in the main blog options. It might not be where you are though ;)

    So, it is not a bug.

    Not sure what you mean by changing your site? Buddypress is just the suite of plugins to extend WPMU, so what do you mean change site to buddypress? You can add the functionality to any theme, so you don’t have to use the buddypress-home and member themes if that is what you are referring to.

    If you changed domain names then you have big issues. You have to go through the entire database and search and replace to the new domain. There are quite a few topics on that in the WPMU main forums.

    You, as a site-admin, have the overall admin access over all users and complete site options. If you go to your Options in the Site-Admin menu, you can allow registrations to users and blogs would be the simple way. If you create the users, then turn on just blog registrations. Users will be able to create blog and have full control over “only” the blogs they create, not the entire site.

    So you are trying to say that this is a buddypress issue because your 3rd party script doesn’t run on it? It is up to you to get your 3rd party script running with buddypress and not the other way around.

    @trent

    Actually, it would be the other way around. dbDelta is actually a wordpress function that plugins can call to get upgraded. Andrew mentioned that this would all be sorted out with a plan to address buddypress by the multi-db 2.8 release. The reason you have to comment out all the dbDelta lines of code is due to a compatibility error that will fill your errors logs :)

    As well, the search breaks with multi-db since it needs to call more than 1 database since one is global and one is for specific users information, it fails. It tries to find a member specific query in the global DB (since that is the one that is called first) and can’t find the info which causes an error.

    The multi-db code also puts all user activity tables in the same DB right now (since it can’t spread them around without code to do so), so the only benefit you get is if you need this solution for multiple blogs. It actually created them all in the global DB when I used the move-blogs tool, but wanted to find them in the same DB as main blog. I had to copy all the user activity tables to that DB for it to work. If you start with a fresh install, it will create them in the right DB straight away.

    Summing up, by WPMU and multi-db 2.8 and a 1.0 BP final release, it will draw more attention so that the solutions will have a clear goal to shoot for. This is a topic better suited in the Premium wpmudev forums as well I think. Glad to discuss it further there!

    Go into the Dashboard logged in as the “WPMU admin” into -> Site-Admin => Themes and then disable the theme from there. You can always go to Site-Admin -> Blogs and edit your main blog to enable the them only for the main blog.

    You actually would create the groups through the main site as it goes through all the steps to create it there, not through the admin.

    @trent

    Participant

    In terms of actually doing this, I am pretty sure you can since it is released under the same license as WordPress which I am pretty sure you can remove credit.

    @trent

    You should be able to reject, accept, and everything else with wp-super-cache enabled. It will just cache the pages with the success notification afterwards and keep the notifications in the admin bar. Andy will eventually put in the hooks to fix that was well I would imagine. It does work fine with super cache turned on, so I would imagine the 500 errors you were getting would be from another reason jim.

    That might be it. It might actually have a variable somewhere. Just not sure where it would be, but running around the avatar upload function there must be something about this. If I find it, I will report back.
