well i know that we are working on the feeds i have definitely seen erratic behavior in the bp rss feeds:
In reply to: No RSS feeds are coming inthere are definitely some known issues regarding rss feeds and we are working to overhaul the entire system in the next version of buddypress more info can be found here:
In reply to: 1.9 top features – ideasfor buddypress data
In reply to: 1.9 top features – ideasnot sure i follow some of those tickets but i’d say my top 2 wish list items would be import/export functions and more anti-spamming stuff.
In reply to: css style sheet missingit’s hard to give advice without more specifics but what you are suggesting (or maybe just re-installing the plugin?) sounds like a reasonable approach assuming your canvas is truly blank at this point.
In reply to: bbpress vs buddypress group forumsthe original group based forums have been depreciated now what happens is each group is it’s own forum/topic in the regular site wide forums which are connected vis the forum tab in the groups page.
In reply to: RSS Format within community groupsI’m not sure how I could contribute to be honest
well i don’t know jack about php i contribute by helping pick off some of the low hanging fruit here so that people who have more development related experience can address more challenging issues. i also contribute to the ux/ui discussions and will soon be helping help build the new template pack pieces as that kind of thing is more in my wheel house. i also help out with testing when i can.
Does Automattic not have some level of involvement in the development needs of Buddypress?
yes but it’s not like they make money off of it or anything so I’m sure the resources they are already donating are purely a cost i doubt it would make sense for them to hire dedicated support staff just for buddypress.
I could contribute financially to get a developer to assist with this specific problem if need be but don’t know any devs who are BP qualified
i don’t want to be taken as speaking for the buddypress development group as a whole but as much as the sentiment is probably appreciated as far i know there really isn’t any kind of ongoing cost for this project other then people’s time. perhaps if money is the best way you feel you can contribute you should consider being a sponsor for the next buddycamp? just a thought, again probably your time and whatever your expertise is would probably be appreciated as much if not more. devchat is today (and every wednesday) at 19:00 UTC on irc channel #buddypress-dev
In reply to: RSS Format within community groupsalso, maybe i talking about something which is way over my head but perhaps the two things are somehow related?
In reply to: RSS Format within community groupswell you’re always welcome to help make things better it is definitely frustrating when a problem you can’t figure out is posted here and you don’t get a response or a partial one i think its basically a thing where people have to decide how they can best help and devote what time they can to help buddypress thrive.
there is no question that time is universally rare commodity amongst most of the people around here as I’m sure it is for you as well. you should consider taking part in the devchats or helping out either here on on trac, if you have the time.
In reply to: RSS Format within community groupsthats not very helpful is it? please understand everyone who posts here is a volunteer like any open source project. we are working on this bug currently (today in fact) you can see that here:
In reply to: how to search for a new buddypress pluginsWhich is not terrible of and by itself (these are BP-compatible plugins for WP). But I agree, there needs to be a way to separate out “Plugins for BuddyPress” (things that actually extend the functionality of BuddyPress) from “WordPress plugins that work with BuddyPress”
i’m pretty sure that’s what the plugin modemlooper made does:
In reply to: Disable WP.COMah well that would be gravatars most likely, i do not know how to remove them from buddypress but perhaps someone else does.
In reply to: Disable WP.COMthere is no relation to wp.com or wordpress.com and buddypress other then the fact they are built on the same basic infrastructure of wordpress which is available at wordpress.org. but you cannot be using buddypress on a wordpress.com website.
In reply to: Why not blogs?glad to be a help!
In reply to: [ Resolved] Lost top menu buttonsi think you may be talking about the buddy bar which was depreciated as of 1.6 there is (or least there was) a way to re-enable it using the bp-custom file code looks like this:
<?php // hacks and mods will go here add_filter( 'bp_use_wp_admin_bar', '__return_false' ); ?>plugins folder
In reply to: Why not blogs?@angelladesigns you can already do that by using the drop down filter menu.
In reply to: Difference between Buddy Press and BBpress? Anyone?sounds good, don’t forget to have fun!
😀
In reply to: Difference between Buddy Press and BBpress? Anyone?i think the key to creating a successful community site is engagement so as long as you take the time to encourage that, if there is interest you will find it.
In reply to: Difference between Buddy Press and BBpress? Anyone?well if your theme says its buddypress compatible that means it was probably compatible before the universal compatibility was part of buddypress so to answer your question no you should not have to change anything, however i would check with your dev to ensure its been updated to work with 1.7 because there are some changes from 1.6 to 1.7 that could effect the legacy compatibility (at least there was for our theme).
it shouldn’t matter the order you install (i don’t think) but personally i would install buddypress first. i used the button to install bbpress from inside buddypress actually. But that was a while ago and i think i read somewhere thats not actually the best way to do it though. maybe someone else can chime in here who knows more then me.
In reply to: Difference between Buddy Press and BBpress? Anyone?bbpress only handles the forum aspects of your site, so if you only want forums but none of the other social network components there’s no need to install buddypress at all. Likewise if you do not want a forum but you still want the other stuff then bbpress is not required. Obviously if you want everything then you want both.
In reply to: Capabilities Editorthe problem is that the capabilities do not actually exist like they do for bbpress and wordpress maybe you should try to ask your questions after the next devchat. @jjj mentioned that they do want to add them at some point in the future perhaps you can pitch in if you are eager to make it happen.
devchat info here:
In reply to: Capabilities Editoryeah i have just confirmed they do not exist in todays devchat
In reply to: Capabilities Editori don’t think they actually exist but i could be wrong.
In reply to: Capabilities Editornot really super knowledgable about the exact structure of how buddypress is built but i suspect that may also be relatively difficult both capabilities are typically only available to super admins in a multisite environment so at least in that situation you would be granting your editors access to the network admin.
