In reply to: Best way to limit friend requests to avoid spami think bbpress supports throttling i swear i read or heard that somewhere.
i’m not using that one i’m using this one:
<?php //hide superadmin add_action("plugins_loaded","bpdev_init_sm_mode"); function bpdev_init_sm_mode(){ if(is_site_admin()) remove_action("wp_head","bp_core_record_activity"); //id SM is on, remove the record activity hook } ?>In reply to: Best way to limit friend requests to avoid spamthats where bugs feature suggestions and the like are kept track of:
In reply to: Best way to limit friend requests to avoid spamsounds like an interesting feature suggestion have you looked at trac to see if anyone else has already requested it?
something must be off on your code cause the code definitely works.
In reply to: Registration not working hen BuddyPress activatedtroll much?
In reply to: Anti-spam techniques…i’d buy that for a dollar!
😛
In reply to: Anti-spam techniques…those seem like some great tips especially the last two thanks for sharing!
In reply to: WP Multisite on Existing Buddypressyou should be fine, there are a few differences in the way things work, namely network user registration as opposed to single site registration (users are not automatically added to the root site), making sure your plugins are multisite ready/compatible. All in all you should not have any difficulty unless your mods are things that are relating to network functions (not very likely i don’t think). Do be prepared for the spammers and sploggers to step up their game i implemented wangguard at the same time i switched our site from single to multi.
In reply to: [Resolved] My Join Group button is acting funnyupdate: the problem has been isolated to a conflict with wp engines object caching (i knew it front he beginning) 😛 anyway it does not appear to be quite universal (i have seen other buddypress sites on their system that appear to work normally) but if you are using wp engine and your join group button is acting funny request for them to turn off your object caching at least until they figure why it’s not working completely with buddypress.
funny site note: i swear my site seems faster (maybe sporadically so) without the object caching.
also any mods that see this please feel fee to mark this resolved.
In reply to: How do I hide my BuddyPress content from Google?if the content is confidential you might want to make it only visible to logged in users that will turn the lights out completely as far as google is concerned as well.
In reply to: Maximizing performance for moderate trafficthe number of members doesn’t really matter it’s the number of concurrent users that’s the issue. ning is a service so its hard to compare that to running something like wordpress or buddypress on your own server. There is a lot of functionality under the hood with buddypress if you want to run it and have a popular site you won’t find and commercially available shared hosting that will handle the traffic. 64 mbytes just isn’t enough memory to run buddypress reliably in my experience, especially when you start piling other plugins on top of it.
That being said you can buy a vps for probably about the same as that ning monthly fee. which should be able to scale you up to higher traffic levels.
thanks for the update and the patch! 😀
In reply to: Problems with the registration pagethanks! you rule!
In reply to: Maximizing performance for moderate trafficsounds like maybe you on shared hosting the memory errors indicate that your resources are insufficient.
In reply to: Problems with the registration pageso would that look like this:
function show_xprofile_fields ( $user ) { $field_value = xprofile_get_field_data( 'x,y', $user->ID, $multi_format = 'comma' ); } add_action( 'edit_user_profile', 'show_xprofile_fields' );where x and y are my field names? thanks & sorry i don’t jack when it comes to php.
In reply to: Problems with the registration pageno i guess i did not thanks! is there a way to just make them all show up or should i just repeat this function/action set for each field?
In reply to: Problems with the registration page@shanebp i tried adding the code to bp-custom but i’m not seeing any additional info in the dashboard profile am i missing something? thanks!
In reply to: SEO for BuddyPressindeed, i also thought i had seen some issues with g+ sharing and that plugin or at least our method of g+ sharing (addthis plugin).
In reply to: SEO for BuddyPressyeah i agree all things being equal the plugin would seem to be beneficial. 😀
In reply to: SEO for BuddyPressI’ve never seen any impact on traffic using it. there may be some benefit but i think the time would better be spent developing content, call me old fashioned. 😛
In reply to: SEO for BuddyPressyup you are correct never noticed that before.
