In reply to: External links in profile fields
not at all 🙂
In reply to: Difficulty Installing BuddyPress Themeno the theme should work with or without buddypress enabled shouldn’t matter what order you do things in but it does seem like you need to read the instructions.
In reply to: Difficulty Installing BuddyPress Themeyes buddypress is a plugin I’m surprised the theme instructions didn’t mention that but yeah you have to install it.
In reply to: External links in profile fieldsyou have to put the full url with http:// and all that
In reply to: SEO for BuddyPresswhats wrong with yoast i never noticed any incompatibility with that one, granted i haven’t actually used it in some time.
In reply to: Problems with the registration pagenice one thanks for sharing!
In reply to: BuddyPress + bbPress + WPMUyeah idk maybe something is up with your network i have it enabled on only on the root site. works fine and shows up in the control list. pretty sure i read somewhere about network vs single site enabling for bbpress before in the documentation somewhere I’m 99.9% our situation is not a fluke maybe @jjj can settle it :/
In reply to: Trying to understand the mentality of trollsif your site has authority posting links on your site imparts some of that authority to the linked site, black hat SEO companies sell these links as a service. google is getting smarter about these things and probably the benefit is marginal if any, but when you’re using hijacked computers and the cost to produce your “product” is negligible it can still be quite profitable to sell snake oil, i would imagine.
In reply to: Can I use this on a multi siteroot site is most advisable but i do believe its possible to finagle things to make it show up on either just a sub-site or even multiple sub-sites.
In reply to: BuddyPress + bbPress + WPMUwell i use a plugin called Multisite Plugin Manager to control what plugins people can see or not.
In reply to: BuddyPress + bbPress + WPMUposting at the same time 😛 i just double checked we have it set up exactly the way you say it shouldn’t work at gotgame dot com buddypress network activated, bbpress only activated on the root site.
In reply to: [Resolved] Where is activity stream privacy?probably gonna check that one out myself noticed the wpmu post about it yesterday.
In reply to: BuddyPress + bbPress + WPMUi think what you would want to do is not network activate bbpress, could have sworn you can do that.
eddit: yeah i just double checked we have it set up exactly the way you say it should n’t work at gotgame dot com buddypress network activated, bbpress only activated on the root site.
thanks @hnla is there a way to make it add new users to main site automatically? i’ve noticed certain things aren’t working quite right such as new users ability to view forums (have no role) and display of usernames on the profile page when the user is only a network user.
bumparino 😛
glad to help!
In reply to: [Resolved] My Join Group button is acting funnyQuick update on this one i had incorrectly reported in devchat that 1.7 fixes this issue. What actually had happened is that on our staging server at wp engine where i had installed 1.7 to test compatibility with our existing setup the button worked properly but when i made the same upgrade on our live site the problem still exists.
It’s my conclusion at this point that something about wp engine’s caching infrastructure is at the root of the problem because i had previously been informed the staging areas do not implement caching.
So just a quick shout out to anyone who’s using wp engine currently if any of you have noticed this problem and figured a way around it i would be very appreciative for any info you can provide. i will of course report any solution i am able to find.
network-wide activity entries and the blog directory are both multisite functions of buddypress everything else (as far i know anyway) only happens on the parent site but BP is intended to be network activated. i would not expect things to work correctly (beyond what i mentioned even possibly) if you do not network activate.
BP must be network activated to function as intended the main site where all of the BP related screens activity would normally live. it is my understanding you can modify to it where each sub site has its own BP instance but i think that would be a very specific need which does not apply to most networks.
In reply to: BuddyPress Demo WebSiteglad to hear it worked for you fyi as i mentioned before its not yet fully compatible with 1.7 according to what I’ve seen.
In reply to: BuddyPress Demo WebSiteThere is this but i have yet to employ it i believe needs updating for 1.7 compatibility:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/welcome-pack/
with regards to our site in particular new members can only contribute once they are granted that status currently. I’m working on turning it into a network at which point anyone will be able to create their own site and contribute that way. if you’d like to write an article or something i can certainly give you contributor status @attention just let me know your username.
thanks!
In reply to: BuddyPress Demo WebSiteyou are welcome to join gotgame dot com as well always looking for contributors over here! 😀
glad to be a help 🙂
wordpress buddypress and bbpress are all the same user accounts for any given site.
