If you’re sending a message from your profile, please ensure you include at least one recipient (@username). Alternatively, you can go to the specific member’s profile and send a private message, where the username will be automatically selected.

Indeed, messaging someone “publicly” does not make much sense if everyone and their mother can see the message, not just the specific group of people you intended it to.

I am using firebase single sign on and all of my usernames are set to some random string like “12noainoneionfe”

So the @username mention looks terrible….

I need to find a way to update the @username mention to use some other user meta field ideally.

I didn’t test it right initially. The auto-fill only works when members are friends, and when I tested it I tested it with “@username” which didn’t work.

I then found a plugin that enables it to work for all members and not just friends: https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddyextender/

Do you mean in the auto-suggest prompt, or just the @username when it’s mentioned in content?

Use @username for each user you want to mention in a blog post – and they will receive notification.
