@dtclarinet – can you share how you reset the database? I’m not using the plugin mentioned, but rather wp-fb-autoconnect. Could that cause the same issue?

    Thanks

Ok, I deleted both of the listed BuddyPress plugins and restored by backup of the v1.1.3 upgrade. The activation went fine, and the site is up and functioning.

    whew

Glad I had a backup, but still mystified as to what happened.

    Thanks everyone!

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_activity_install() (previously declared in /home/content/66/4913966/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-activity.php:19) in /home/content/66/4913966/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-activity.php on line 52

    Ok, this is weird.

    1. Even though the activatio failed, I see the BuddyPress admin section in the left-column of wp-admin (General Settings, Component Setup, etc.)

    2. I have (2) BuddyPress plugins listed. One was showing as Active, the other as Deactivated. I deactivated the one that was showing as Active.

Now, I have (2) BuddyPress plugins listed, both deactivated. Not sure how this happened. What should I do?

Thanks for the replies. I did as you both suggested:

    Deactivated ALL plugins

    Renamed the BuddyPress folder old_buddypress

Copied back my prior BuddyPress folder

Ran the upgrade (which was successful)

    Activated BuddyPress

Got the same error message. All other plugins are still deactivated.

    Running WPMU 2.8.6

Ok, WordPress has the ability sometimes to make me feel really stupid.

By disabling the admin bar, you lose the ability to create groups. Doh.

Another change it would have been nice to have noted somewhere, and another reason why I’d pay good money (REALLY GOOD MONEY) for a technical deep-dive reference book on BuddyPress

But, because the admin bar doesn’t fit the asthetics of the site we’re building, I need to find the code that makes up My Account, My Blogs, Notifications and Visit and make them part of our new header so that functionality stays intact.

Thanks for your help DJPaul! Would you know offhand where I might find that code?

I’ve created a custom theme off of the BP Default 1.1.1 I made modifications to the CSS file for colors, and removed the admin bar by adding a line to bp-core.php

Thanks DJPaul – did I miss this in the documents somewhere? And, any idea why I don’t have this as a direct link/url anywhere? I’m assuming it’s not meant that users type in this url in order to create a group?

    Hi DJPaul

I am having the same issue: new install, can’t find any menu option to create a Group. Under Site Admin, there’s just a “No Groups Found”

Wow, hey thank you for responding! So, would I add this to the functions.php and then call it as:

    <?php _profile_url(); ?>

+1 on the topic. We’ve given up at this point as we can’t deploy anything other than the latest, non-beta releases.

Has anyone done a completely new install of the latest wpmu, buddypress and bbpress successfully? I’m not getting the integration between buddypress and bbpress, nor the ability to create forums in bbpress.

Just seems that every success thread I read relates to upgrading from alpha/rc for one or more components, and I’m wondering if by doing so there’s something that was overlooked in the (now missing) documentation for new installs.

Appreciate any help on this – it’s a test install that thus far has been great, but now I’m wishing there was full-on documentation available :)

Thanks again el_terko. I have another queestion.

I ‘think’ everything is working – I confirmed that I can log into both using both my admin and user username/pword combinations. And, when I look at the list of users for the bbpress they are the same as those listed in buddpress.

However, should I still have to log into the forum? when I go to \forums it asks me to login, and I thought that it would automatically do this.

Thanks el_terko. I’m installing the latest version of BBPress (new install) to WPMU 2.7.1 and BuddPress 1.0.2

Nope :( Here’s where things stand:

    – created (3) blogs. They hae IDs 1, 4 and 5. ID1 is the default blog and works perfectly, with Admin listed as the User.

ID4 was created with a User account. However, when I click on “Visit” from Site Admin…Blogs, I get the following:

    Fobidden

You don’t have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidder error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle this request.

    Never saw that before

    Just an update:

I rebuilt my site, as http://www.[orgname].com and installed WPMU and BP without problem.

From Site Admin, I enables New Users & Blogs. Then, from within BP I signed up with a new user name and also created a blog, as [username].[orgname].com

When looking at …\wp-content\blogs.dir the folder for the blog isn’t being created, as I only have the “1” folder for the initial blog that gets created upon install. Site Admin…Blogs shows the incrementing number for each new blog I create, but the folder and files aren’t being built on the server.

The permissions are 755 for blogs.dir and all folders underneath it.

    Thanks.

    Hi Erwin

This is exactly what I’m experiencing. Just downloaded via the plugin install, Version 0.59
