hi @ntmedia,
as you say nothing about your server, i assume you’re on a hosted service (1&1, oder sonstiger)
A subdomain is a domain that is part of a larger domain who depending on DNS addressing. In your case, the problem is not the addressing, but the server velocity. If you have no access to the server settings, in other word to the root server, you have no chance to get rid of the situation.
htaccess setting or changing BP code has no/or poor effect on the server speed.
Most probably you are hosted somewhere and your WP is installed at the root of your domain, but not at the root of the server. Even if you install x subdomains, they are all attached to the root domain in the same cluster.
Imagine that you’re in a house with x floors. And your domain is hosted at the 5th floor, apartment n°12. Your host attribute a part of his server(s) capacity to your apartment. Take also in mind that on the same floor, live other tenant. This is the common usage.
You added a subdomain, OK, but this is like you added a room to your apartment. The apartment is not bigger, it has only one room more. But by adding this room, you lowered automatically the performance of the allowed capacity. Try to run in one room and find the difference when you run through 2 or 3 rooms. Or more… 😉
To have your own apartment, you can use a VPS. To have your own floor or eventually your own (little) house, you can use a dedicated server or create your own server from hand.
Now, if you want absolutly your pictures served from a subdomain, install them on another server. A kind of mini gravatar service. Perhaps a low-cost hoster if you have not too much weight to store. And play with the DNS settings to get this server attached to your domain.
In reply to: Admin bar modificationIn reply to: No preview image for uploaded videoDo you mean a static image or a a real 10 or 20 seconds teaser ?
In reply to: Show user's option nav in sidebar globallyThe difficulty of this menu is his ability for contextual output, depending of the component page. It is also a bit complicated to around this because activities are sort by type. In fact much more sophisticated as a simple menu containing simple a. tags
Happy coding !
hi @umagokhale,
thank you for this sharing ! 😉
In reply to: Show user's option nav in sidebar globallyin other words, you want the old buddybar “My account” menu from the buddybar to the sidebar ?
take a look in bp-core/bp-core-adminbar.php and bp-core-buddybar.php <- this one is well commented
you can also revert to the old buddybar by adding this to bp-custom to view the difference with the default WP Toolbar
add_filter('bp_use_wp_admin_bar','__return_false');In reply to: Show user's option nav in sidebar globallyBP version ? And theme name ?
Have you already a code example you want to use ?No, changing the theme will only change the design, not the content.
Just so I know if I should do this now or wait until no one is coming to the site…
This depends off your own philosophy i guess.
Some solve problems when they occur
Other wait to have many problems, so they can say “i have soooo much problems, pls HEEEEELP !”.
And other close their eyes and say: ” Who is the problem ?” 🙂You can also read this forum. There are many questions like yours with many answers.
In reply to: Admin bar modificationYes, you did !
And the function is unecessary. Have you tried what is explained here ?
http://blog.rutwick.com/add-items-anywhere-to-the-wp-3-3-admin-barIn reply to: Admin bar modificationIn functions.php, you can only write php. The doc type, the div and the closing html has nothing to do in it.
If you attribute a class or a ID to a div, there is no need to create a function who add the style.
In the child theme you have a file named style.css. This file contains your css styles !hi @jacobmclaws,
first thing to check: have you allowed members registering in the general settings ?
If yes…deactivate the frisco theme and test your install.
If it works, the culprit is the theme.
If no result, keep the bp-default theme and deactivate all your plugins except BP
Check the register page again. If it works, the culprit is one of your plugins.
Reactivate one by one until you find.
In reply to: Register Button not completing sign uphi @jacobmclaws,
nothing worse too as a user question in an old post. 🙂
Please be kind and open your own subject and give more details about your config. In reply to: Show user's option nav in sidebar globallyi guess you have to get the logged-in user ID
$bp->loggedin_user->id

In reply to: How do i get the groups im admin of?Out of the box, each goup member has in his profile menu the one under the howdy on top right) “my groups“.
When on a members profile page, there is also a My groups (2) menu on the group menu bar
But there is nowhere a specific menu saying “The groups i admin” or something like this.
The only place to know who is group admin is on the group page itself. A the right of the group header. Mods are also mentionned at that place.
If you need absolutely a customised menu or a list of groups a member is admin of, you have to create it yourself.

Are you saying WordPress Admin Bar Imporved is not compatible with my WordPress version?
YES ! It’s not really me, it’s writtent black on white on the plugin page, in the header image. Check the link above !
So far i understand your picture, the buttons are part of the installed login plugin. Logicaly you have to search in it’s code to remove them.
So could i add a link beside HowDy?
you have the solution for that in the code i linked to in a previous answer ! 😉
The link is called extra link in the example and it goes close to the left of the howdy. You couldn’t have it on the right, as already explained.
Read a little more carefully, please ! 👿
Forget my previous answer. As stated on https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-admin-bar-improved/A set of custom tweaks to the WordPress Admin Bar that was introduced in WP 3.1. Since version 3.3.5 of this plugin, it is only compatible with WP 3.3
deactivate the login widget in your sidebar !
In reply to: Buddypress and slidersthere is an js error on one of the image. I gues one of the static pictures at the right of the slider. FF doesn’t see it, but IE 9 does.
Both browser says there is an error, but i’m unaible to locate it. Image corrupt or truncated: http://<unknow>.com
Check also the slider settings for any auto-resize value and deactivate it. Such errors are also mainly due to image that are not correctly built by a software (photoshop, etc)
Deactivate all your plugins and use only WP, BP, your slider and bp-default and see if it works.
Reset also your permalinks (just by saving again the settings). Also, be aware that WP polls 2.3 is only given to be used up to WP 3.3
And if you use BP 1.7b2, use bbPress 2.3b2 it’s much better.
In reply to: Buddypress and slidersdon’t know this theme. Provide a valid link to it. Also version #
If it’s a premium one do nothing. We can’t help here in this case. Ask the author or call the support included in your purchase.
In reply to: Can't create Forum topicsi don’t understand why there haven’t been any additional comments on this.
Probably because they have nothing to say about such a multi debate subject on this forum.Much like @pdillon809 I installed fresh install of BuddyPress
Much like ? He gave some details. Not you !
Which version do you use ?
What is your theme ?
Which plugins do you use ?We don’t read in chicken guts here nore in cristal bowls !
and found absolutely no links to create either a group or forum (form the admin bar profile links).
To create a group you have to activate the group component in the BP settings. Maybe also allow your members to create groups.
Then you go on the group directory page and you’ll find logically a create button on that page. Have you your kitchen light button in your bedroom ? No ! Same for BP: each thing at his place. And a place for each thing.I finally a create group button if you go to /groups
Very impressive ! But code is poetry isn’t it ? You did a unecessary work i guess: this button is a 100% part of buddypress.but still nothing for creating a forum topic (even as admin).
Have you installed bbPress ? Depending your BP version, have you allowed the group forum in the bbpress settings ?
Do you use the integrated group forum shipped with BP (1.xx.x) ?
Do you now understand why it’s important to give some details ?I’ve used bbPress countless times, but can’t find any documentation for how it integrates with BP Groups, and there is no “Forums” on the backend even.
Did you take a look at the upper part of this support forum dedicated to BuddyPress ?
1) it’s written BuddyPress
2) it’s written Codex
3) it’s written Blog (sometimes reading a blog helps to understand what’s going on)FYI, the codex contains also some precious informations about how to setup a group forum, a standalone forum or both group AND single forum. Did you read the codex page mentionned above by @mercime ?
Doing some searching I found dozens and dozens of people trying to create forums and groups – most have no answers.
Wow ! You have pretty much time to loose !!!
Depends where they ask, what they ask and what they understand when be answered. I can find you hundreds of users who created groups and forums without any difficulty ! What else ?This post was better at stating the actual issue – links in BP menus vs. the user-based links in the profile menu.
Especially since you came into the discussion with a very constructive attitude ?!!!But still no answers and severe lack of documentation.
Do you mean you have some time to contribute to the codex documentation ? That would be very much appreciated. You said you have several bbPress install behind you. Beautiful coincidence, some user claiming here about the lack of documentation ! Feel free to write, it’s a wiki ! Use the same credentials as here to access. If you are over inspired, you can also publish on the bbPress codex or ask for help on their support forum.http://wprealm.com/blog/its-time-to-stop-kicking-the-buddypress-puppy
.. and sipping a cup of tea, yes 😀
the extrem right of the bar is occupied by the search box, who normally appear when you’re on the front -end.
So the limit on the rigth is at the left of the HowDy witch ends with the user avatar. At the right of the avatar is some jquery for the search box. And it’s better you don’t try to touch this, if you don’t know what you make.
Be also aware that CSS styling begins always on the left top corner, because it’s the only common point of the multiple existing screen sizes.
The #wpadminbar li applies to any list on the Toolbar. So your CSS in completly false and unusable as is.hi @notpoppy,
no it’s not possible. WP post comments are not forum discussions.
And the BP included bbPress forum as no settings for such.If you use BP 1.6.x with the bbPress 2.2.4 plugin for a standalone forum, you can plug bbPress, but this cannot be done if you have group forums.
If you use BP 1.7 and bbP 2.3, every thing becames possible, but you have to wait a little, both are still in beta…
That said, each WP comes with Askimet, the theoretical nec plus ultra of comments anti-spam, whitch protect the comments, the activity stream, etc
Search on this forum, you’ll find many discussions about spam and what to do/use….
Even if no definetly solution exist. In reply to: Deleting Admin Sub-menu itemsthe thing to understand with PHP is to never use a function name twice on a same action. A function name is and must be unique.
In the WP ecosystem, you can act on templates throught the child theme. Generally you only change HTML and CSS and use the existing php filters from the original template.
If you need to modify an existing function, you copy the original to the child theme functions.php file and do your changes on this copy. Once done, you change the name of the function and the new hook name
unhook first the action or the filter
remove_action or remove_filter, than the new function
function my name
add_action or add_filter (‘the_action_to_hook’, ‘my_name’)Because this is registered in the theme functions file, and because WP is calling a evantually exiting child theme first when he loads, the child becames priority of any other existing theme. And that’s why it works !
Don’t be affraid, the only one who can broke things in a child theme is you, never an update.
The only limit is when you use a so called buddypress ready theme, in fact a third party theme. This works generally out of the box, but if you want to change something in such a theme, you must first create a child for it. Simply because that original “child” is updatetable. And the whole world knows that you want’t loose your changes.
That said it’s not forbidden to work on a local copy, and to save systematically any file you modify on the prod site.
Reading the Codex on rainy days is also a good thing you can do. 🙂
