In reply to: about the speed of the site
Front page is also 2.4MB, uncached.
For example, it loads http://www.educa.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Portada.jpg (452 KB) and https://s.ytimg.com/yts/jsbin/html5player-en_GB-vflO2CBMB/html5player.js (310 KB for JS!!) and http://www.educa.net/wp-content/themes/wplms-educa/images/insignia_profesor.jpg (259 KB) and http://www.educa.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/gerardo_.png (233 KB).
If you got rid of those, you will half the size of the front page load, and everything will be faster. You can then look into other popular pages and see if there are any easy things you can do like this to make things faster before worrying specifically about the code’s performance.
In reply to: Starting with a clean install, should i…?Shouldn’t be a problem.
In reply to: bug in mentions.min.jsWhat browser are you using this with? Did the browser actually load all the scripts? It looks like the “atwho” script hasn’t loaded.
In reply to: BP conflict with other pluginsWe’ve updated the ticket with some notes.
In reply to: php error logwp_icl_stringsis used by WPML, and I think this error might be being caused using https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-multilingual/. You need to contact the author of that plugin on the WordPress.org plugins support forum:https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-multilingual/
Good luck 🙂
In reply to: BP conflict with other pluginsThanks @gatera! It might just be reflecting a problem in the other plugin, but I’ve created a bug report for BuddyPress and we’ll look into it sometime to see if it’s our fault or if there’s something we could be doing better. Thanks for letting us know:
In reply to: FYI: iOS 8 and changing avatars@modemlooper Do you know if this was fixed in 8.1?
In reply to: 2.2 top featuresI also want to clarify that everything in the 2.2 milestone trac just happens to be there. It’s not accurate yet. Once we set scope for the 2.2 release, we’ll move everything else to 2.3 and beyond.
We should have more or less settled on major features by October 25th (just after WordCamp San Francisco). Keep on eye on bpdevel.wordpress.com; I’ll come back and post here if I remember.
In reply to: 2.2 top featuresNot sure where you got Christmas from, but we’re aiming for 2.2 to be released on 28 Jan 2015. 🙂
In reply to: Can WP & BP handle 1000+comments per day?If you mean “comments” as in “comments on a blog post”, that’s obviously part of WordPress. That will definitely scale fine.
If you meant “comments or replies on activity stream items, or status updates”, that’s BuddyPress. This should scale just fine, too.
This assumes your server(s) configuration is optimal, and that you haven’t got any slow code running in other plugins/custom code, or in your theme. I/we can’t really help you with that here — running a performant server(s) for WordPress is outside the scope of providing BuddyPress supports.
The only piece of hosting advice that I’d recommend for any WordPress-powered site, but especially larger sites, is to make sure you’re using an object cache, such as memcached.
In reply to: Buddypress tabs does not work in AR,JA,RU,TH,ZH-HANTOk if you disable however you are loading the translation – that might be deactivating WPML – so that everything goes back to the default English, do the tabs work?
In reply to: Just installed Buddypress 2.1.1. No clueSorry to hear that you’ve had a bad first experience with BuddyPress. We’re always working to make it better.
In reply to: Buddypress tabs does not work in AR,JA,RU,TH,ZH-HANTI assume you are using a .mo translation file – are you?. If you remove it (so it goes back to English), does the problem still remain?
In reply to: Can WP & BP handle 1000+comments per day?It ought to be fine, and no doubt you’ll be able to keep an eye on how things are performing as the level of activity on your site scales up.
In reply to: Buddypress tabs does not work in AR,JA,RU,TH,ZH-HANTWhat exactly do you mean by “does not work”?
Can you explain what you expect or want to happen, and then explain what is actually happening. Thanks.
In reply to: All Members showing age of 44 years old@1a-spielwiese That sounds like a similar but different problem though, isn’t it? Especially as you’re using custom code. I want to keep this thread on track for @bonnsaikitty.
In reply to: Nginx blues: Connection reset by peerNo idea. Anything in the PHP error logs?
In reply to: All Members showing age of 44 years oldSounds like an interesting problem. Do regular blog posts publish and display their dates correctly? Have you had problems with scheduled blog posts on this site?
Just initially trying to figure out if all the dates on your site are off by 44 years, or if it’s all BuddyPress dates, or just some dates in some specific part of BuddyPress. Thanks for your help.
EDIT: how are you displaying ages? Can you share the code?
In reply to: 404 Errors with IIS AssistanceWhat about any other links generated by BuddyPress content? For example, groups, activity stream, etc.
There is this https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/iis7-web-config/ but it was written about 4 years ago and the core team collectively do not use IIS at the moment. If you can help us figure out the correct config for BP on IIS, we can update the docs which would be wonderful. 🙂
Not aware of any plugins that do all of what you want, unfortunately.
In reply to: How to fix it? Buddypress 2.0.3Does the error still occur if you switch back to WordPress’ twentytwelve theme (just as a test)?
In reply to: Marked as spammer, but why?Hmmmm. BuddyPress does not ever automatically mark a user as a spammer (or not a spammer), so I’m not immediately sure what might be going on. What other plugins do you have on the site, and what theme are you using?
Please also tell us the versions of WordPress and BuddyPress that you are using, like @shanebp asked.
Last question: are you using multisite? If you don’t know what that is, the answer’s no. 🙂
In reply to: BuddyPress 2.1.1 is available for download.Woop woop!
In reply to: Conflict (sort of) with Social Login & MentionsShort of giving your users extra hugs and re-assuring them that their WordPress usernames aren’t particularly private bits of data, you’re going to have to get your hands dirty. 🙂
It might be down to how the other plugin creates user accounts. Most plugins that allow sign-in using other services’ authentication systems (such as Facebook) don’t “properly” create WordPress user accounts; they use MySQL statements directly instead of using WordPress’ APIs.
This can cause problems with plugins that expect certain user record fields to be in a particular format (if some other plugin came along and just inserted something in a custom format in place). I am not saying that this is the case with this plugin, as I haven’t looked at its code, but I’ve seen this sort of thing before.
If you can create a test account and then go into your DB’s wp_users table and find your test user, and let us know what the values of the user_login, user_nicename, display_name fields are — and which one of these @mentions is using, and which one you would like it to use.
I built @mentions in the last BuddyPress release and while I’m not sure if it’s possible to get it to change how it behaves like this, understanding what you’d want different with real data from a test account will help us help you, and at worse, give a suggestion for ways we could make advanced customisations possible for this in future BuddyPress releases.
In reply to: BP avatars missing special classesHmm. Using get_avatar to change the class for blog comments is an interesting approach, though I guess it has pitfalls like this. BuddyPress customises the entire string, so your str_replace is probably not matching.
How about hooking at priority 12 instead of 10, and doing some debugging so you can fix up your str_replace for when BuddyPress is active? You might need two str_replace statements to handle BP and no BP, or you might want to switch to a preg_replace or something like that.
