In reply to: Removing friend requests from the Activity Feed
@shanebp – I was trying looking for my old posts on the couple of plugin options for this (which I think are outdated given that there are newer ways of handling this in bp now) – and then looking for this in the documentation. Is “bp_register” and list of other things that can be removed using this syntax published in the documentation somewhere?
On a couple of sites I’d like to remove the old bp-activity-stream-filtering plugins I was using and change this over. One site I am trying to limit the display / activity stream recording of “now friends” – but also things like “changed profile pic” – on another site trying to limit “joined group X” and “added a photo”.
Would love to see an updated write up on this, and I thought there was one, but now I can’t find it.
In reply to: Chat Plugins with one-to-many messaging?@jacipetersilie – best thing I have seen that is close to fbook like chat thing is the free “quick chat plugin” – however I do not use it to show as a widget on all pages and give a popup to users – as I think that would tax the server and web browser more than is reasonable if you have dozens of users – it might work, might not. I use quick chat for a single chat room on a single page.
From what you are describing however, I wonder if you really need a chat plugin to do what you are saying – one to many message – like the super-admin send a message to all users, kind of privately… I think there are some plugins in the wild that allow admin to send an email (Which I guess would be a buddypress inbox notification (?)) – to all users… that would “one to many” message – and give people a way to “message you back” privately I think.
I have also seen a plugin that will allow super admin to add a note to all dashboards – although I guess many bp users will not go to their dashboard when using most features –
I suppose you could also assign users to a group, and select settings for them to get a notice email when a new group message is sent. Which may achieve what you are describing.
If you just want one-to-many messaging chat with users who are actually logged into a chat room, I think it would be easy to do that with nusoft’s av-chat, there are settings in which you can make it so only certain users can post in the chat, have moderated chat, turn off pms and stuff like that – I guess I am not clear on what exactly you are trying to accomplish as I don’t use fbook and am not familiar with the kind of one to many fbook messaging you are talking about.
every time this happens to me, I go to permalinks settings, note what they are.. change permalinks to something else.. save.. then go back to permalinks, change back to what I had originally. Save again. Problem fixed.
I have no idea if this is the same issue you are having. This happens to me 2 out of 3 times that I update the rtmedia plugin.
In reply to: Theme Customizer will not load@cowens8 – does this happen when ONLY BP plugin is active.. or when BP plugin is active while others are active as well?
In reply to: How to stop Spam Users from registeringYou should of searched the forum for many answers to this already posted.
There are a lot of options and solutions with this… for me, I use the plugin “buddypress humanity” on one of my sites, and a different / similar plugin “good question” on another site.
Change the default questions and answers… this stops most of the auto-bot spammers.. a few manual people may get through, but it cut does spam signups on my site by 99%.
One of my sites I disable “group creation” for all users, as that seems to be a target for many of them.
I also use another plugin with my bp+wp / multi-site … which sets “blog defaults” so that any user who creates a new blog has settings automatically enabled that “block this site from search engine indexing” – if someone signs up and creates a site and adds original content, I will go in an manually change that setting.. most people who “create a site (blog on multi-site) – don’t use them, or are spammers – so I don’t need them sucking away page rank juice or clogging up the activity stream with BS.
random thoughts from another BP user…
In reply to: Remove Everything Gravatarasked about this with some help over a year ago ( https://buddypress.org/support/topic/remove-all-gravatar-calls/ )
short term fixes some though: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/new-buddypress-plugin-bp-local-avatars/
Which I have installed but not activated yet.
Also mentioned this a while back in a survey thread I think it was ( buddypress. org/support/topic/questions-for-the-2015-buddypress-survey/#post-229073
and in buddypress .org/ support/topic/programmatically-assigning-avatars-to-groups/#post-182810
Glad to see there was some ticket discussion about this issue! And others who are looking at this being a real problem!
In reply to: Chat Plugin Recommendations@planetearthlings – I just noticed that the latest version of the avchat.net program has a new API that will produce urls (and other info) for recorded video chats
( https://nusofthq.com/blog/avchat-3-6-brings-a-new-mobile-version-and-red5-1-0-5-compatibility/ )
– so it should be pretty easy to to put together some code that would take that info and send it back to BP to post recorded video chats. The program already has a wp plugin (and a pro version) to connect avchat with buddypress members, so this is the closes thing I have seen that does what you were asking about.
I will be posting a job offer for someone to connect with another API that nusoft has released soon, and I would help fund any project to connect BP with the avchat recordings API if you decide to take that route. I wish I could just write it myself, but still in the early stages of learning php and java.
In reply to: cant activate the plugindisable ALL other plugins first. Then try to activate buddypress by itself.
not working still? Switch to 2014 or 2015, or 2012 theme.
try again.
Then when you go back to enable your other plugins (or theme) – you will find which is causing conflict –
-most likely
In reply to: Does buddypress require a theme to work?bp works with default 2015 theme fine (pretty sure, 2014 theme I know), and most others.
never tried localhost thing, perhaps search the forum for “localhost or local host” to see if others have found settings or components needed to run in that environment.
In reply to: Create story/news without going to admin area!users can post news fast just by adding activity item “what’s new Angelo” – just like facebook, no geek level 2 required.
Users can add articles / news to a “group” they are part of easy.. front end.. even upload documents if you have a plugin like bp-group-documents..
if you are talking about each user getting thier blog/aks site with a multi-site setup, or assigning them as contributors to a group blog – just make a 90 second tutorial showing them how to post… or maybe look for some “front end editor” type plugins and add a snippet of code to your bp-theme or something.
random thoughts from a novice bp user..
In reply to: Chat Plugin Recommendationscouple of pages of discussion in regards to some chat plugin with wp/bp recently:
in my limited experience, I would suggest nusoft’s av-chat since you are asking about incorporating video and having an option to save the videos. I don’t think there is any way to auto-mate moving saved video chats into bp – I think you’d have to admin in to your media server and pull files manually then add them to wp/bp yourself.
Maybe you would not need a live video chat plugin that saves files to add, perhaps something more like nusoft’s https://hdfvr.com/ which has a record video option, perhaps that could be incorporated in wp and bp with some custom button api or something (not sure, and if you explore that, let me know what you find out! I’d like to do that too!)
For just text chat with only a few people I like the free “quick-chat” plugin that is in the wp-repo.
Busier chat rooms have only worked for me using nusoft’s av-chat program or 123flashchat’s system. Everything else I have tried chokes after 20 users connect at the same time.
I’m looking into Jitsi and xmpp right now, if I can find some folks to work on an integration with these I may kick in some funding for it. Still learning php and java myself.
Just re-read your post, makes me think you could also use a screen recording software like corel’s videostudio or camtasia to “document all chat” – if you were involved in each one. Not sure what your project is really about, or what exactly you are looking to do, so a few random thoughts from another bp user, not yet a coder.
In reply to: New plugin: BuddyPress MuteWould like to try this out one of my sites.. wondering though, how this comparing to buddy block or whatever it is called? Feature compare?
Also, this would be excellent if it also could “mute” / hide / selected groups from the sidebar widgets and sitewide activity.. also wondering if possible to hide posts from ‘muted users’ from appearing in the sidebar of sidewide posts when an annoying user has a blog with MU setup and stupid posts show up on the sitewide posts widget.

In reply to: Migrating from one install to anothercopy your database through mysql or whatever (check that box to “add drop table” or whatever it’s called!) – wordpress.org has info about that in the codex
https://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Databasecopy all your files.
download, upload, import database.. pray.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress
Check folder permissions… check that your wp-config has new database name and pass..
In reply to: Chat plugin? So what op is saying, is that basically taking the notifications from the top right and putting “inbox notifications” on the bottom right of the screen, and when hover / clicked would bring up latest messages, and instead of clicking those bring you to a new bp page, it could ajax load your private messages – and allow for image uploads.. would kind of do what you are talking about.. no fancy chat required.. kind of I guess?
I use quick chat on one site with a dedicated server, and only enable it to work on one page, not show up on every page of the site.. I use av-chat (from nusoft I think) on a busier site.. but with my sites I am not using them in the way the OP is asking about, a mini chat tab on each page.. I just use them as chat rooms on a single page.
Tried many other solutions, paid for many, most fail miserably starting around 20 users.

In reply to: Sploggers skiping paid members area@mapache27 – Have you asked the authors of your paid members pro plugin? I’d love to hear what they come up with.
First thing I would do is change my main admin password (or any admin accounts) – and I would think about changing my database pass / credentials and updating your wp-config..
/random thoughts… maybe the paid members pro people know of this issue and it’s something in that itself.. I know nothing of that plugin…
In reply to: NEED HELP PLEASE!I am pretty sure ” register and comes out the message that check the email to activate ” has been already answered in the forums here a time or tow – please search the forums for your answer first.

In reply to: Implement new blogs on Main BlogMay I suggest you mixin
and see if that gives the final result you are looking for
BP Blog Author Profile Link
Buddypress Profile Widget for BlogsI use “New Blog Templates” from wpmudev – but I think there is another similar one in the wp-repo
I use ” Ultimate Branding” from wpmudev to display some info / links / content in the footer across all of the sub aka “sites” that other users create on one of my networks. It has options for displaying your choice of stuff in the header across all sub blogs – so I guess you could put your main site nav buttons, etc there with it.. I imagine there is something similar to this in the wp-repo as well.
In reply to: Implement new blogs on Main Blogwe stay at main blog with a nice custom background. Is Not opening a separate blog
Actually I think this is indeed opening a separate blog/site… looks to me like this setup simply uses a global header override to display the main navigation over each person’s separate site.
Without digging into the source to look at plugins, I am guessing it is a wp with multi-site enabled, installed in a subdomain (my dot) – with buddypress to handle profiles and groups.
You could add a global header thing that puts whatever you want at the top and bottom of each person’s new ‘site’.. limit the theme options for users to twenty twelve or whatever.. which would give them a backend option to change a header and background (I think) – you’d still have your global header over top.. and this would give the illusion I think you are describing…
In reply to: Implement new blogs on Main Blog@giorgosnl – I am confused what you are asking to do.
You could have one blog where new users are all added to that blog as authors, or editors.. and that would be just one blog where multiple people can post..
or you could give each user a new blog (aka “site”) – and that would have a different blog at:
yourdotcom/kevins-site
yourdotcom/mandys-siteyou could easily make it so all new user blogs had the same header and theme etc.. and use a plugin to display “sitewide blog posts” onto one page.. so you could have a page that showed each member’s blog posts (or snippets from each) and click to read the whole post, which would take them to the individuals blog..
or one main blog where each person is given access as a contributor, editor, admin.. whatever and they all post on just one main blog..
both are similar, both are easy with wp+bp… one takes the extra step of making wp multi-site… and a plugin to pull in sitewide blog posts onto a single page…
this may do that: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/hiding-stuff-from-the-activity-stream/#post-235995
I’m thinking about paying someone to take the forked / updated version and wrapping it so it can be pushed to the wp-repo so I can trust using the newer better version.
In reply to: I just can't get registration to workif you delete everything, fresh install – and use the default wp theme 2012 or 2013 or something – you should be able to get the registration thing to work right? I would do that first.
In reply to: Bussdypress title and SEO Yoast problemI wish I could… but things are really screwey right now from what I can tell. If you read the 6107 linked info you would see that there are essentially three different code bases / thingys going on right now that are all producing different title results – see this spreadhseet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ww95Q184EAHG0ztI9MtkdjpA2pALnMY0L-R7FA6QqGc/edit?pli=1#gid=0
I had some code cobbled together to make everything “work” as I needed to fix most of the buddypress titles – but that was with buddypress 2.1.1 and Yoast 1.7.2 – now it seems that updating to 2.2 and 174 my custom cobbled code gets broken..
so now I have an updated site, and updated plugin from yaost.. but if I activate the yaost plugin it overrides my custom page title and meta description settings (from the code I have added in mu-plugins folder) – for now I have disabled yaost, which has brought back my custom code to add titles and descriptions to many bp pages! But now that yoast is turned off, I have lost the custom titles and descriptions for the main pages of the web site – meh.
Ash and Vladislav from premium.wpmudev.org came up with this code to wrap to fix my issues as it were before the latest yoast updates:
(hmm.. I tried posting the code, and I get “Error your reply cannot be created at this time” – stupid bp.org – I think the word seks is offensive along with alt seks lifestyles here – anyway – you can probably see the code without being a member / loggin in here anyways:
http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/bp-meta-tite-description-for-groups-and-members-pages#post-806736Some of that is hard coded instead of how it could be done (there is stuff in the codex about another method of calling “field’ => ‘age’, ‘user_id’ => $user_id))” stuff…. and there is not php tag at opening to make it plugin..
@morka – I know you can’t enable / disable comments on those pages (at least from my experience with BP and a few themes / installs, of course with WP just about anything is possible) – You failed to mention if you have the same issue with the default wordpress themes.
@morka – do you have the same issue when using the default “wordpress 2014” or “twenty-twelve” themes?
If not, I would ask your theme author to add some kind of check on pages for something like “if is register page, turn off comments” / not load the comment hook thing…sorry not a php or wp/bp expert, can’t point you in the right direction for those codes and what they are really called. I know with some standard WP pages you can go into the editor and select “comments off / disable trackbacks” – and with some themes you can use a theme option to “display comments off” or hide “comments off” on pages where comments are disallowed.
In reply to: No Site Name in Buddypress PagesMaybe the info in another forum post here: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/bussdypress-title-and-seo-yoast-problem/#post-236244 will shed SOME light on the issue.
