@damainman It also worked for the way you explained it by copying parts of sidebar.php but the problem is that after logging in the users have to refresh the site (f5) in order be actually logged in. Which means that users think that they are not signed it and they’ll try in again.

But I am not able to create an event when visiting a group (http://test.jobboardr.com/groups/test-group/events/) or I just don’t see it. ^^

Subgroups would be a neat feature. :)

Okay, jetzt weiß ich… dass ich nichts über wordpress+buddypress weiß. ^^ Good work!

The events plugin is looking good. :) If you would add the capability of group events would be cool.

Wouldn’t it be better if the option of deleting the corresponding plugin database tables were build in within the wordpress administration. Drupal handles uninstalling plugins this way which is very handy.

    I would love that idea.
The main reason why I think that diaspora has some great potential is because users can connect and become friends with each other across multiple domains who also have diaspora installed. The fact that diaspora is written in ruby might be a small obstacle because there are less capable ruby devs out there for writing modules.

It might be due to heavy traffic. It’s very slow at the moment. But when refreshing the page it might show up again.
One should consider that this showcase is a pre-alpha version and today is the first day that the public can actually test this social app.

The real strenght of diaspora is that you can add friends from different domains who also installed diaspora.

You can test this app @ http://pivots.joindiaspora.com Add me as a friend to check out the privacy features. ekine@pivots.joindiaspora.com I am wondering if this new project will influence the development of buddypress in any way because diaspora’s approach is really new in terms of users owning their content and letting them choose who will gain access to their content. Diaspora could become a fast growing social media app.

The devs are working on it. Maybe a month or so… in the meantime this plugin might help. https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-kaltura-media-component/

@M why should choosing ruby as a programming language be a mistake?

Here is the first Diaspora Video screencast. It might become competition to buddypress. ^^

It would be better for all of us if an event addon would be available to the public. There is a real need for a well coded event calendar. ;)

A smartphone (iphone/ android) theme would be a very good contribution to a social cms like buddypress and I think that this task is so important that it should be developed by the core developers( @apeatling @MrMaz). Iphone & Android users will rapidly grow very strong (e.g. gowalla, foursquare) which they already have, and since buddypress is a social script it fits perfectly into mobile interaction. Imagine that mobile users could interact with their buddies (friends) using geolocation capabilities.

This awesome feature would lift buddypress into a new dimension.

An iphone/ android app might be better than just a mobile website. I have heard that coding with Titanium Mobile (http://developer.appcelerator.com/doc/mobile/get_started) would make this app task easier.

    What do you think?

Maybe be should should gather donations so that a capable developer will code a kickass full featured buddypress events plugin and he should be willing to maintain upgradeability. The events plugin is too important for many of us leaving it not to a hobbyist coder.

Features I’d like to see integrated:
    – group admin can send message to all attending event members
    – group events
    – show event location on a map (google maps)
    – comatibilty to CubePoints Buddypress (https://buddypress.org/community/groups/cubepoints-buddypress-integration/)
    > gaining points for attending
    > gaining points for logging in at the event via a smartphone geolocation feature (e.g. iphone, android phones, …)

    – people who attended the event should be able to rate the event

This guy milordk (https://wordpress.org/support/profile/1487174) updated the events plugin (http://milordk.ru/r-lichnoe/opyt-l/cms/bp-events-dlya-buddypress-1-2-x.html) for buddypress 1.2 It would be cool if developers would join forces and if necessary be willing to accept donations for an awesome events plugin with possibly an iphone version using geoloaction.

I like the idea of “Category Groups->Sub Category Groups”. This makes sorting by type of group so much easier. :)

Hey Mike, somewhere around the end of this video (http://m.podshow.com/media/25237/episodes/228148/dcmtvipod-228148-04-26-2010.mp4) you said that an events component is being developed which is going to be fabulous. Were you talking about bp-events?

Letting users set their own passwords would be helpful.

Good to know about the bp-groups-meta table. :)

    Thank you Felix2009.

I wasn’t sure about the way you uninstall bbpress. It’s actually the first time that I am testing Automattic software. Using drupal you can remove module tables by a click of an uninstall button within the administration which is comfortable because then you would not have to mess with phpmyadmin in order to maintain a clean database.
