@ GPo1 do you have a complete list of features you want? I want to see them
@ Mambenanje $2400.00 is too much, I fear you’ve lost this bid.
@ DallasClark
we just need to assure this follows the best practices of the latest WPMU and BP… I don’t know your level of skillz, but you seem to have a good grasp on things…
you should also send your working plugin to Andy Peatling so he can review/comment is he’s available to. this really needs to be “adopted” into the core of BP… this will assure its continued development by others as the BP following grows… unless you want to support a plugin like this on your own? (i wouldnt want to)
if it does what you say it does/can, you’ve got my money.. but i need to test it
what can you tell me about the “core” of your plugin?
is it based on another plugin?
is it built using the WPMU core media management?
do you have a working version on your own site?
are you willing to share the development/improvments work with other devs?
will this remain GPL?
can we get a list of features now VS with more $ ?
I assume this is something we will be paying you to complete?
the questions go on and on….
thanks everyone
nobody? nothin?
blah…. ok….
but why spend money on something that most people would want to replace with something better? oh well… im not tryin to argue
hosting the media on a 3rd party server is not an option for me. and Andy made it sound like if we went through with this plugin, it would replace whatever he has planned…(maybe)
that tells me a core photo album is further away than anyone would probably like it to be.
(unless Andy wants to jump in and set me straight)
i’m still down…cause it’s cheap…. let us know if testers are needed
ok… after reading a bunch on some forums… this is possible with mod rewrite
(alot of cool things could be done with mod rewrite in .htaccess)
for example,
user types in
username.domain.com
and the user gets served
domain.com/members/username
or user types in
domain.com/username
and the user gets served
domain.com/members/username
so either way the domain gets entered, the user will still get served the same page
any mod rewrite gurus out there?
I envision a BP Admin option to select how member pages are viewed,
which would then add a condition to the mod rerwite in .htaccess
like choosing permalink structure in regular wordpress
this would be a great addition to BP
home-page
/members
/groups
all use the default bp-home theme
members and groups pages use the members-theme
that’s why some of your pages have the green border in the header and some have the orange border…
yes, there are different css files… depends on your version of buddypress
what version?
ok… so i have this working on my buddypress install (users only… no blogs)
it creates a new user and pulls as much information as it can
username => firstname
email => email
from there, I direct them to a custom “welcome” page where I explain they must update their profile information (some providers give ugly information)
example:
gmail does:
email => email
username => firstname
yahoo does:
email => email
username => RPX234562983746592745834578
even if the yahoo/gmail account has a first and last name with it, it never pulls it over when the BP account is created
I wish they could still “choose” the username that gets displayed so their profile doesnt become /members/RPX243523452345245645
we’re still working on this on our end…. hopefully we will get it to work successfully/cleanly… but for the most part, it does work
stellar….. thanks
top of wp-admin next to “howdy Admin”
admin-header
or somewhere near there
yeah… i read some people make custom DB tables where the count total is added by creating a query/sql command… i dont know enough to do that…
copy this, add to it, paste it below in your post…. this will get a little overboard i’m sure, but we should list as much as we can and then narrow it down based on:
– if it’s possible
– time to complete
– cost
Features Request:
browser=person browsing the website
user= the individual user/profile owner
– seamless integration with buddypress
– this becomes a component that is activated through the bp admin menu
– and general settings are controlled by the admin in the wp-admin subnav
– not a plugin/mu-plugin
– user can select to only show pics/vids if your the users friend, or show anyone
– user can subscribe to pics/vids gallery rss just like activity rss
– browser can select “view random gallery” or “view random video” from the bp nav bar
– user has “gallery options” under their profile menu
– add/upload/remove/rename/add caption to images and videos
– user has “gallery settings” under their settings menu
– make pics/videos public, show to friends only, etc
– all media uploaded is searchable through the /members page
– a new <directory> is created called “Media” just like the “groups” or “members” or “events”
– this directory shares the default theme of BP and yet is customizable because it has it’s own directory/index.php and directory/media-loop.php (just like BP)
– admin decides how media should be stored
– on the website server
– or on kultura (i have no need for this)
– etc
– admin decides max file size, max storage amount per user and is able to delete any media uploaded
– user is able to choose which uploaded image is set as their avatar
– user is able to create galleries and select a default gallery icon/image (myspace)
– galleries could contain both video and images and are browsable as thumbs
– thumbnail image is “thickbox ready” and pops up both pics and video into a jquery thickbox with button for next / previous / close etc
– Gallery content/information/descriptions etc becomes bp-Xprofile data that can gotten and displayed much the same as regular bp-xprofile data (get_bp_xprofile data ect)
– except for the admin options, all gallery controls and content remain on the front-end/profile only
the list goes on and on… and there’s many ways this could all be done
add to the above, remove stuff (say why you removed)
I dont think these features are “too much” considering there’s $700 available for this project… I’m also open to a different developer…. this should be someone who lives and breathes buddypress and who keeps current with both wpmu and bp trunk versions
we would also need to know/specify which install we want this created for
wpmu 2.7.1 + BP RC1
wpmu 2.7 + BP RC1
wpmu 2.7.1 + BP latest trunk
etc… because chances of this working well on all the different install variation is tricky
worst case scenario, all we get is the $200 job and we have to make due
(im still down with that too)
I would like the developer to brainstorm and come up with a list of features that THEY think are possible considering the budget
$200 gets you ___________.
$700 gets you ___________.
($700 would get us something pretty damn cool from the right dev… and remember, if it’s done right Andy will add this to the BP core which I believe is the best option)
response from Andy:
“I think it’s a good idea, as long as it works well and follows the WP coding standards I would definitely consider it. Go for it.”
– Andy
ok, so if Andy will consider adding whatever gets made into the core of BP, I think we should make sure this is done as best as possible, right?
I’ve got a total of $500 that I will put towards this to make sure it kicks ass
you’all will have to throw down as well
if this is more than you were looking to do, plz let me know… im not trying to hijack your project… just want to add what I can ($) so it works for my use…
“currently we do not have the resources to create this integration in-house.
I will however, fully support the developers that will take this initiative, providing help in code and guidance.”
they dont have time
I sent Andy a message and asked him a couple questions…. considering the BP Gurus are currently pondering the same things we are, I really suggest finding out “how they would do it”
then it can be seamless and remain stable as BP changes….
again, I’ll cover half to all if this is done with “BP’s blessing”
i see i see….
“The WordPress plugin we wrote (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-video-pack/) is compatible with WPMU (you can place it in the plugins directory and activate), So I guess that for an experienced developer this should be an easy task.”
this is correct…. not too difficult to move the interface to wherever…. as long as to include/loop the right core files…
will this modified plugin actual integrate with BP? or just get moved to profile?
by actually integrate, I mean for example:
– pics can only be viewed if your their friend
(just like you can only write to wire of friends)
– tags, titles and descriptions of videos/pics are searchable from the /members page
– gallery adds ability to “view random video” just like “view random member”
etc
if not, I fear this modified plugin will get replaced by whatever Andy and the Gurus come up with for RC2….
depending on the outcome, I’ll cover at least half… maybe the full $200 since your dealing with them… but I’d need to see/test it first on my install
any timeframe?
$200… that seems pretty cheap….. are you confident in their abilities? have you given them a list of features you want the gallery to have?
if they\’re going to do it right, I\’ll match your $200.00 with $250.00-$500.00
(\”right\” being the key word) so 750.00 total if it\’s done well
prefect scenario:
whatever they make is good enough that it gets integrated into BP by Andy
Andy… what are your thoughts on this? I know this is coming in RC2, but what if we paid some people to take that task off your plate? what would be your pointers for the developers that will take this on?
even more perfect scenario:
gallery allows a video and images section, where videos and images can be uploaded or linked to/embedded… picture nextgen gallery for video… oh, and all of this is done from the profile/front end only…. no wp-admin/gallery etc……. no 3rd party servers…. all content is uploaded to the site server, etc
im down…. what are your thoughts?
i see you have a jquery fade…. looks cool
is this using the deault jquery from wpmu?
mine does not fade…. wondering if I need additional jquery.js script
thank you for your efforts Burt,
(im gonna keep messin with it… and post it back here once/if i get i working)
I wish it was that simple…. the first and last name are required for other features on the site…. (portal site with social-network skin)
we’ve hidden the last name altogether, but it looks empty only having first name under “general information”
buzzwe.com
field_1 First Name -visible
field_2 Last Name -hidden
field_3 Referred by -hidden / change disabled
hidden in phpmyadmin by changing the is_public 1 to 0
disable changes by adding filter to bp_xprofile_classes.php
(if field_3 and on edit profile screen, hide)
any other ideas?
thank you
one more question,
we tried this in both bp-customs.php and bp-xprofile_fielters.php…. didnt work
we’ve changed “Full Name” to be just “First Name” and added a “Last Name” field
I’m assuming that is why this doesnt work…..
thanks
thanks again Burt
ok, i figured it out… had to do some reading… damn reading
the position of each plugin is normally decided by the “add_action”
i.e. to move recaptcha to the very bottom, the priority must be lower than the rest…
in wp-recaptcha.php – line 50
add_action(‘sign_up_extra_fields’, ‘display_recaptcha’ );
changed to:
add_action(‘sign_up_extra_fields’, ‘display_recaptcha’, ’20’ );
probably didn’t need to be as high as 20, but i want to make sure it’s on the far bottom
next i’ll go into bp-tos.php and change that add_action to 21….we’ll see if that works
thanks Burt…
I looked around… can’t find much… it’s BP-tos….?
where is this action created => do_action( ‘signup_extra_fields’, $errors );
signup_extra_fields = ?
i wanna trace it back and see whats there…
maybe I can remove the TOS/captcha from signup-extra_fields
and then insert it manually into bp-core-signup ?
i duno
sweet! cool
this goes in bp-custom.php I assume?
anyone?
works very well…. my first assumption was that it would pull a random member and list them as featured.. rather than entering id #..
I think I will modify this to randomly get a member id # from the DB
unless this has been done already? either way, nice plugin
(quick thanks to everyone here smarter than me and that have helped out)
almost finished.. but still nervous to show some of you… not exactly what I wanted it to be, but it’s getting closer…
feel free to join, it’s for real, the site portals you to over 750 online stores, if a purchase is made, you get cash back in the form of reward points which can be spent or cashed out…
many more integrations will be made as the site is developed… have any tips, hints, ideas or critiques, please let me know through email
think this is cool and want to help develop? email me, compensation is available

anyone else having issues with IE 6 and the “buttons”
i.e.
accept friends
deny friend
etc
– they all display far right and cause a big scroll bar..
– so the user doesnt know they’re their
(damn you IE 6)
