Thanks. I renamed BP, Welcome Pack and the album plugin and now I have admin access again.

Seems as though 2.8.1 really hasn’t installed. I’m getting a message at the top of the admin page that 2.8.1 is available and another at the bottom saying I’m running 2.8.1.

Actually, can’t even deactivate BP at this point. Clicking deactivate returns that same fatal error.

And none of the mu blogs are working either. Using any of those urls returns the same error, the bp-core-templatetags.php.

What’s actually interesting is I believe there was an image posted a few weeks back showing that something like this blog idea was part of the first mock-ups for BP.

I spent some time creating a theme for blogs that would look like the rest of my site, to at least give the appearance of a closely integrated blog if not the actual function of one.

What I was looking for was a work around for locally hosted images for users, ala Facebook or MySpace.

I’m thinking NextGen the gallery might work for what I want, as it’s probably going to be a while before the development team will get to adding the gallery into the BP code.

Funny, I was going to ask a similar question.

One of the areas for future expansion is to give BP a gallery. I’m converting my site over to BP and we have galleries.

I’m looking for a recommendation for a good gallery plugin to use until BP’s comes on-line.

That’s the first time I’ve seen that jpg of an early version of a blog theme. It’s really elegant and beautiful. I’m thinking one of the future features for the site should be to configure blogs that way in addition to the stand alone themes people are working on now.

The bbPress template is PAINFUL to modify. Doesn’t work the same was as WordPresss.

I’ve found though that the blank theme available from

make creating a matching theme so much easier.

Thanks for posting that. Since I’m not much of a coder, when I make suggestions on the trac report I tend to think I’m just being annoying. Nice to know that much of the time it’s actually helpful.

bbPress is an absolute pain to work with. Its themeing process is unlike the rest of the Automatic family, very idiosyncratic and frustrating if you try to tackle it from scratch.

But…

I discovered that Refueled.Net makes a \\\”blank\\\” bbPress theme that is a snap to customize. Head over to: http://www.refueled.net/free-bbpress-themes/ and install one of those, then go in and make your custom mods there.

Okay, I took a look at the settings. Privacy is set to public, so that’s not it. It’s really weird because that one thing seems to be the only thing the activity stream isn’t picking up.

Thanks John. I got it part of the way there, but it took my redheaded wonder of a PHP God to figure the rest of it out. He had to build a password hash table to get it all working right.

I should add though that we just now found a new problem. Creating a new blog doesn’t show up on the feed, but posting an entry or making a comment on any blog does. It wasn’t doing that before.

I’m running 1.02b… I was waiting for the official full release before upgrading…

Okay, I missed putting plugin-sidebar.php in the theme folder. I’ve added that in. The extra content div was from the theme integration with BP. I’ve pulled that out.

Nothing changed though. It’s still failing to call the sidebar functions. I too don’t even see them listed with firebug. It’s ending right after the directory script.

I haven’t coded in 20 years. I’m amazed at the work Andy and Co did getting this thing to work. Tracking all of the function calls, figuring out what talks to what, etc has been very enlightening. I still haven’t figured it all out yet, so I’m sure there are more questions coming.

And I’m sure that groove in my forehead will deepen.
