    The beauty of opensource is as long as you give credit where it’s due, you’re free to distribute anything that’s part of the GPL, which WordPress and BuddyPress are.

    Unless Andy chimes in and feels otherwise, I don’t see the harm in it.

    Arturo, in order to make it work correctly with current versions of BP/WP/WPMU you might need to add an undocumented variable to your wp-config.php file. Some people have needed to, others have not.

    define('WP_AUTH_COOKIE_VERSION', 1);

    This isn’t a magic fix, but if you’ve tried EVERYTHING and are banging your head against a cookie wall, try this. :)

    You currently have the bpskeletontheme member theme enabled and active in your wp-content/themes directory.

    Update: I just refreshed it now and it looks like you’re figuring it out slowly but surely. Let us know if you have more questions.

    There’s a plugin for WordPress to do this already, and there will be a language switcher plugin that is BuddyPress safe soon.

    This has been done similarly in various forum software. Wouldn’t be too hard to adapt to fit WordPress/BuddyPress.

    I say do it. :)

    I think the problem here is that it’s installed in a sub directory. My guess is that if this is BP’s fauly, it’s hijacking the path and the 404 template page never gets triggered. Let me do some more digging tonight and see if I can patch this.

    Otherwise I’d say this might just be WPMU.

    As a general rule, WPMU doesn’t really like to be installed in a subdirectory off of the root of the domain.

    I.E

    domain.com/wpmu/member is bad

    domain.com/member is good

    Chances are this isn’t a BP issue at the core, but rather a WPMU issue. Worth looking into though.

    It’s actually quite easy to do this. I recommend getting comfortable with the functions that BP introduces to the templates, which can usually be found in buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-templatetags.php. There are some others, but those will be your friends.

    Some of them are wrappers for WPMU functions, and others are BP specific. Each plugin also has a *templatetags.php file that includes more functions to component specific output.

    Spend some time looking through the bphome and bpmember themes to get an idea of how those functions are used, and you’ll be on your way to making a custom theme in no time.

    You’re missing the functions.php file from the home theme that came included inside bphome. There are functions included in that file that will assist your custom theme in routing to the necessary member/directory pages.

    Pierce2, if you’re trying to change the colors of the included “Social Network” logo image in Photoshop, your best bet is to just alter the hue/saturation to your liking. Just filling the colors will make it look all blotchy regardless of anti-aliasing.

    This isn’t a design forum, but since it’s BP related I’ll let it slide. :D

    I’d also recommend using Firebug with Firefox. This way you can tweak CSS on a live web page, and then apply those tweaks to your CSS file and upload it once and be done.

    Just noticed this too on one of my installs. Who is your web host? Are you by chance running BuddyPress in a subdirectory?

    Looks like you’re not using any plugins at all? Were you at any point? Something that additionally re-writes URL’s like qTranslate or the like?

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but you’re not getting a blank screen (white screen of death), you’re getting what looks like a totally empty blog page, with no widgets, no side bar, just a header and a footer.

    Right?

    This will be fixed in 1.0.1. There is a patch for this in the trunk.

    In the meantime, try adding this to your functions.php file for your theme(s).

    // Load the buddypress translation file for current language
    function bp_load_buddypress_textdomain() {
    $locale = get_locale();
    $locale = apply_filters('buddypress_locale', $locale);
    $mofile = BP_PLUGIN_DIR . "/bp-languages/buddypress-$locale.mo";
    load_textdomain( 'buddypress', $mofile );
    }
    add_action ( 'plugins_loaded', 'bp_load_buddypress_textdomain', 9);

    In order to have the buddybar appear, you need to do what is called “deep integration” between the platforms. It means including WordPress and BuddyPress, inside your bbPress process.

    See this post.

    At that point, the wp_footer() will load the BuddyBar, but you will need to pull off some styling tweaks to make it all play nicely together.

    Not in the BP core. Group members currently have the ability to remove themselves from any groups they are part of however.

    I haven’t looked at this directly, but I suspect this is due to the nature of the AJAX that is making the new post versus it being created in the WordPress admin area. This means that either BuddyPress needs a plugin to hook into whatever P2 is doing, or vice versa.

    Once we’ve got a “stable” bbPress 1.0, I’ve got a stable step by step integration process. :)

    RC2 is looking pretty good so far so shan’t be long now!

    Fields show up in the order they were created. By September… I would say 50% right now? There’s a few different things on the roadmap for what comes next, and you can always vote on what you think you’d like to see also.

    The first blog visible on the buddypress.org homepage will link you to where you can vote for what you’d like to see come sooner or later. The votes will determine the path, so make sure to get involved.

    Did you delete the extra business that WP Super Cache puts in your .htaccess file?

    As long as you’re not modifying the core files, everything should upgrade gracefully.

    Are you experiencing this problem on your main blog, or a user blog?

    I’ve just recently had this happen to me on a user/sub blog. Haven’t had time to check but I wonder if this is a functions.php issue, or a wpmu issue, or if BP is somehow interfering with widgets.

    In reply to: Localisation, per user

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Keymaster

    No, you only need one installation of WPMU/BuddyPress to have a multi-language website.

    When you install additional PO’s and MO’s in your wp-includes\languages folder, magically in your Site Admin and Blog Admin settings will be language selection options, to determine the default language of both the site and the blog. The mu_locale function will take control of it and over-ride the WPLANG settings as necessary.

    There is no user language settings as of yet, but I’m working on an implementation of qTranslate to allow for this. This won’t work until BuddyPress 1.0.1 as there’s a few specific things that need to be altered for everything to work in the order they need to.

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Keymaster

    Nope, and don’t expect any until 1.1 probably. Extended Profiles will probably get a lot of attention for the next version of BP.

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Yes it’s possible to cronjob this, but you shouldn’t need to.

    There are a few instances where the activity feeds aren’t refreshed, and my guess is that deleting blogs may be one of them (since it happens so rarely, and usually removing something isn’t reported.)

    Example being that when you remove a friend, it doesn’t appear on your activity stream, etc…

    If you already have a login here (which unless I’m daft it appears that you do,) use the same login there as you would here.

    Do you have a theme named “bpmember” in your wp-contents\bp-themes\ directory?

    If so, have you navigated to your BuddyPress settings and activated that theme as your members theme?
