In reply to: A Solution for Creating Fluid Video Widths In BP!
This is good however stretching (hoping it has a maximum point it doesn’t go above) even video above it’s natural size causes pixelation and other issues look wise. It really depends on how wide your widest is on your site though.
Does this have a maximum point being the natural largest point of the video? That to me would seem a sensible clause.
Scaling down is a good idea though. For those that do want wide-narrow and are ok about the minus points it is a good solution though. I still think go with html5 when you can don’t even use iframes but output from popular video hosting can get in the way of that ideal.
Images can be done without scripting and should if you can. A huge danger of responsive is falling for the scripting solutions when simple bulk use of modernizr and then applying media queries can work. Piling on javascripts will not be the best method of adopting responsive.
In reply to: Am i right to think buddypress is……It opens up social networking and other things besides yes. Where the menu item is though is down to the theme and also up to you if you edit files.
You do not have to change the look of your blog you’d use the template pack to allow your theme to work for BuddyPress. There are some files you’d need in your theme but the template pack solves that.
It’s really a case of doing a test site with your data and seeing if possible. In theory if your theme supports floats and so on it will fall ok. The issues usually are scaling down not up.
The ‘issues’ come with as you say embedding and images set to before be the full width of the content area. 100% can overcome this in some respects but you shouldn’t go ‘above’ what you have already for obvious reasons (a 700px wide image is it’s correct largest size).
If you are going for responsive then you should be going with max-width:100% on all images with or without floats. Video more or less will be a set size that’s just something without scripting you will have to live with or you can look at html5 video and scripting solutions / plugins. For smaller thumbnail images you can even do small fixed sizes or % again.

Personally my approach to the older content would probably be get it looking acceptable but don’t worry about going up in width just worry about if goes lower maybe setting up some media queries to catch things.
In reply to: Buddypress mailsWhen you say can’t send out emails are you on a server that has been set up to email? I ask this as you may not be.
Also what happens on activation does it just not send out?

In reply to: [Resolved] Make all members activePerhaps this thread will help?
In reply to: WordPress vs. buddypress themeUltimately you have one theme, you can probably hack a theme switch but I’d also say that tends to lead to not only user but also general confusion. A cohesive look is far better.
Now of course if you’ve hit a case where the styling is an issue my first question would be are you using the template pack? I would assume so if it was a WordPress theme?
Now, what you could do is copy over the styling for those sections into your theme and use in those cases. Whilst keeping the wrapper of your site. However that would require some coding and I don’t know how you feel about that – some may not feel comfortable so hence asking?
I just would not suggest even with a hack to do it loading a different theme depending on where you are as it ruins the experience for users.
In reply to: Page not found – after updateDid you update your theme to a BuddyPress 1.5 one? Also is there anything in your php error logs or / and server logs?
I can’t really view source to tell you if you have it set to 100% as you have a block put on that however I’d assume somewhere you’ve not got the admin-bar set to 100% in your CSS.
In reply to: How do you add a Favorite Button to Blog Posts? It depends what you want to happen on favourite.
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-to-any/ works for social / bookmarking.
If you wanted to add the BuddyPress style favorites though that would be:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-favorites/
Or perhaps likes with this plugin:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-like/
I am not 100% sure how updated any of those plugins are though.
In reply to: I screwed up the CSS 🙁 can anyone help?First up have you both checked that the themes you are using have been updated for BuddyPress 1.5?
In reply to: Settings link a blank pageBy settings what page do you mean the settings for the theme?
In reply to: BP 1.5 search errorYes you would want to wait to upgrade until your theme is also supporting it I’m afraid. It is probably something simple but you do need to get the update.
In reply to: How to disable reply option on comments. Can I clarify you mean BuddyPress 1.5 or BuddyPress 1.2.8? Either way you would want to look at this for some pointers:
In reply to: BP 1.5 search errorFirst up can we clarify a few things:
1. Is this the drop down search ie; term and you select where you search for it?
2. Is this using the default theme for BuddyPress 1.5 and if you do use that (if haven’t) do you get the same issues?
In reply to: Any way to delet a group in 1.5If you search for the group on the front and click to view you should see under the admin tab you should see a link saying Delete.
In reply to: Help! Lost Access to WebsiteAs Paul asked above going to need to see what is in your error log regarding this please.
In reply to: when setting ” register ” page as the homepageI’d probably turn this upside down though rather than doing under settings > reading I’d have a home.php in your theme that depending on if logged in user or not directs to a different template page. Should accomplish the same thing but gives you more granular control.
In reply to: Multiple columns gone in 1.5?I would be fairly sure that theme would get an update however I’d also suggest making sure your theme and plugins are 1.5 ready before taking leap (may be like asking you to close door after horses bolted though
).No worries though worst case I’d suggest the default theme for a short while until the update and that’s had a huge refresh for 1.5 so well worth checking out.
In reply to: Multiple columns gone in 1.5?The default theme only has sidebar and 4 footer widget areas – if you had more it would be a custom theme I’m assuming not the default theme. I can’t off top of my head think if this was different in past default theme but if anything we didn’t have footer widgets so may have just been sidebar.
Just going to do a sanity check here as for me it is on default install blank named – so that would be a name you gave it right? Alternatively only thing I can think of at this point (others may have better ideas) would be is there any chance you have a plugin on along with BuddyPress?
In reply to: Strange member page behaviour in 1.5I assume they would be planning an update. If they don’t you can always merge the template pack for BuddyPress with the theme – not a small task if you don’t know code / feel comfortable though.
In reply to: Strange member page behaviour in 1.5I’m not sure Canvas is updated to BuddyPress 1.5 yet is it?
In reply to: Make ‘Acivity Stream’ main pageNo problem
In reply to: BuddyPress 1.5 compatibility for plugins and themesCool thank you for updating us – hopefully we’ll see this list at 100% in the next few days now 1.5 is out in the wild.
Did you update that theme to the (if it has one) BuddyPress 1.5 version? I’m a thinking if you didn’t my theory over scripting could be the problem. Doesn’t ‘overly’ solve the how it’s working now but lets just consider that a positive
