1. The only plugin you’ve activated is BuddyPress and you are using the Twenty Fourteen theme, correct?
2. Your WP version is 3.9.1 and BP version is 2.0.1 (not the 2.0 mentioned above)?

@johnhome Thanks. Have you resolved your issue? If not, are you using WAMP OR XAMPP? I’ve only used XAMPP in windows machines and they’re working pretty well. Also, have you tried clearing browser caches?

@johnhome have you tried re-installing BuddyPress either in backend or via FTP?

@bjreszel Have you upgraded your installation since the designer turned over the site to you? if not, what are your WP/BP versions? Re login issues, have you done some basic troubleshooting like in this post https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/troubleshooting/

If that doesn’t work and if you are having issues only in your forums and not in blog posts or Activity Streams, etc. please post at the bbPress foruns.

@arturol WP/BP versions?

I just checked the issues you mentioned as a regular user (not admin) in a site using the latest WP/Versions:
a) Friendship Request and Accepting
b) uploading and cropping updated avatar
and both are working fine.
