3. Save file
4. If you don’t have sidebar.php in your theme’s folder, create a blank sidebar-buddypress.php file and save it in your theme’s folder.
5. Open up the blank sidebar-buddypress.php and paste this at the very top
`
Delete the header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php created before. Create new BLANK header-buddypress.php, sidebar-buddypress.php and footer-buddypress.php and add content per info below
header-buddypress.php – http://pastebin.com/1Z7rgejT
sidebar-buddypress.php – http://pastebin.com/29rHqhip
footer-buddypress.php – http://pastebin.com/MCvy7kMU
As you’ll see, many items from your theme are hardcoded. This will hold you till you get someone to do the dynamic files with your Artisteer theme.
== if I try to Uninstall “Group Forums”…. they only appear to uninstall. ==
Remember to backup database first https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/4/#uninstall-forums
As for your Artisteer theme. I will post another solution in a few minutes, but the navigation etc will be hardcoded.
Disclaimer: Not quite sure if this will work out. The good thing is that if it doesn’t, you only have to delete the header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php that you created and revised from your Artisteer theme folder.
1. Open up your Artisteer theme’s header.php with text editor and Save As header-buddypress.php in your Artisteer theme folder.
2. Open up header-buddypress.php
2.a. Replace `<body >`
with “
2.b. and at the very end of the file (below other code) add this:
`
3. Save file
4. If you don’t have sidebar.php in your theme’s folder, create a blank sidebar-buddypress.php file and save it in your theme’s folder.
5. Open up the blank sidebar-buddypress.php and paste this at the very top
`
`
6. Save file.
7. Open up your theme’s style.css file and add the following to the very end of the file to center your background image:
`/* Body Background */
body { background: #000000 url(“images/page_t.jpg”) top center no-repeat; }’
Then add the style found at middle of this page https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/ below the Body Background style you placed above.
Adjust style to taste.
mod_rewrite for pretty permalinks must be enabled in your server: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/#system-server
Re: sidebar.php source – that’s the bp-default theme sidebar.php . Are you sure this is your theme’s sidebar.php? Also, you don’t want any sidebar, right?
As for codes in page and index files: give no clue what HTML structure `art_post();` generated to make your header width go awry and render background color wrong, etc. Go to a regular page e.g. About in your site where the Artisteer theme is activated and go view source code. Copy source code and paste to pastebin.com and post generated URL here. You might want to replace references to your site name in source code before pasting to pastebin.com – up to you.
Artisteer – ouch!
Tell me you don’t have a div id=”content” in your Artisteer and we could swing it by only adding two files to your Artisteer theme to make it compatible with BP. If not, we have to revise 16 files to make theme compatible with BP plus some styling tweaks and you’re done.
Go to pastebin.com
Open up your theme’s header.php, footer.php, index.php, page.php and sidebar.php
Copy source of header.php and paste it to pastebin.com, click submit, and post the generated URL here.
Same goes for the footer, index, page and sidebar
I understand you want to make all BuddyPress pages full-width. If it’s not-too-crazy do-able, I’ll post the how-to here. If not, I’ll let you know.
@MrHatchet
– What WordPress theme are you attempting to integrate with BuddyPress? Did you check out https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/ ?
– Did you install and activate the BP Template Pack plugin then go through the Compatibility Process? Strange, the plugin does not mess around with header width.
@junglejinge If group forums == support and sitewide forums == discuss, then:
You could ask developer of Wishlist Membersite software to make it compatible with BuddyPress.
== I can’t disable the forum because i might loose everything. ==
Change to bp-default theme and see if issue is corrected.
@elsarto better ask at http://buddydev.com/buddypress/limit-groups-per-user-plugin-for-buddypress/ and check out the comments where certain solutions were posted
@prasanth-p do clarify if you made a WP theme or a bp-default child theme. Solution would be different depending on scenario.
@JackVD do be more specific. BP/WP versions? Using bp-default child theme or a WP theme with BP template pack plugin? New install? Check out System and Server Requirements as well as WordPress configuration https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/#system-server
You’re welcome.
Which version of IE are you using? The bbPress (Forums), Members, and Groups Pages are full width and aligned in IE 8/9. You just might want to remove the negative left and right margins for div#item-list-tabs, div#subnav, and div.pagination as well as add top and bottom paddings to #forums tr. Check out modifications made in this tutorial for some more styling tips/corrections.
It’s your site’s Activity Pages that are not rendering properly. I suggest you open up activity/index.php and change
`
The only bundled theme that comes with BuddyPress is the bp-default theme.
To activate a theme, go to Appearance > Themes > choose Canvas – and activate. For more information about your theme, please contact theme author/s.
Forums for Groups and Sitewide Forums are definitely working in WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.5.1 and bbPress 2.0
BP Codex – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
The BuddyPress demo site at http://testbp.org/ is on:
“This site is running the most recent nightly development versions of BuddyPress and WordPress and should be considered mostly stable with a chance of rain.
WordPress 3.3-aortic-disection
BuddyPress 1.6-bleeding
bbPress 2.1-bleeding”
Per your screencast, you’re using WP 3.3 beta 3. Are you using trunk versions of BuddyPress 1.6 and bbPress 2.1 as well? Having asked that, no guarantees until all are stable.
== yet when reinstalling and reactivating the “Forums for Groups” is already installed. ==
Because the bb-config.php file is still in WP root. Backup bb-config.php to hard drive and delete it from server.
Please clarify which forum setup you have based on the four available setups here https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
You have to enable your group’s forum – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/4/#forums-faqs
Cool, glad it worked out for you
Method 1 works all the time for all WP themes, while method 2 works for some WP themes depending on HTML structure.
Method 2 in short, uses the WP functions available for themes. Look at /activity/index.php and you’ll see header(‘buddypress’), sidebar(‘buddypress’) and footer(‘buddypress’) in the template files. If there’s a header-buddypress.php, in the WP/BP theme folder, then the BP template file would use header-buddypress.php. If there’s none, then the BP template file would use header.php by default.
TMA works with either method 1 or method 2. I gave the solution for method 2 because the HTML structure of TMA was suitable for that. Method 2 saves you from having to “fix alignment” for 16 BP template files again (which you have to do in method 1) when the BP Template Pack plugin is upgraded.
@jugularbean Re #1 – thanks for clarifying, just had to make sure
2. You don’t change the filenames, you replicate the file/s and rename as header-buddypress.php etc and should be saved in root of your TMA theme folder.
You’re in luck. We can use the second method to make TMA compatible with BuddyPress.
1. Open up TMA’s header.php with text editor and Save As > header-buddypress.php in TMA theme folder
2. Open up header-buddypress.php and add the following at the very end of the file:
`<?php global $woo_options;
//get_template_part( ‘top-banner’ );
?>
Save file.
Note: if the global woo_options wreaks havoc, delete from the code
3. Open up TMA’s sidebar.php and Save As > sidebar-buddypress.php in TMA’s theme folder
4. Open up sidebar-buddypress.php
a. At the very beginning of the file, insert
`
`
b. At the very end of the same file, insert
`
`
Save file.
5. You might want to tweak the default styling of the BP template files. You can use the following style changes used in Twenty Ten theme as a guide https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/
`’menu_id’ => ‘nav’, ‘theme_location’ => ‘primary’, ‘fallback_cb’ => ‘bp_dtheme_main_nav’ ` pertains to the adoption of the wp_nav_menu function which allows users to create their own menu. This falls back to wp_page_menu and bp_nav_menu.
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/how-to-set-up-your-main-site-navigation-using-the-built-in-wordpress-menus/
Did you run wp-admin dashboard > Settings > Permalinks and set it to other than the default “ugly” permalink? Pretty Permalinks are required for BuddyPress. Do you have mod_rewrite enabled in your server?
Re Problem 1)
What theme are you using? Change to bp-default theme and see if behavior is corrected.
Re Problem 2)
Again, could be a theme issue.
